Honestly I never realized how beautiful the interiors in this game are until this video! The floor reflections in particular are beautiful for a game from 2002. Dare I say some of these rooms even look photorealistic somehow!
This game has mediocre graphics for PS2, let alone more powerful Xbox and GameCube. Bully destroyed GTA in graphics, and even that wasn't the best graphics.

Funny how Florida is the only state that changed its name, transitioning from 3D to HD universe. State of Liberty stayed, San Andreas also stayed. Even more weirdly enough, both GTA III and GTA SA incorporated fake state names, while GTA VC was the only one that didn't. GTA VC was also published in-between these two, so it's quite a weird design choice.
I suppose they didnt think that far ahead, may have something to do with there being no countryside, unlike III and obviously SA, even III has a small bit of countryside! Vice has none so they may not have even considered what theyd call it

I've heard somewhere that south from Viceport there was supposed to be a swampy countryside called the Gator Keys. This game is amazing but I wish they'd spend more than just 9 months in the development phase
I enjoyed watching this video so much. It’s the first I’ve seen such a detailed video about Vice City and it took me back to my childhood. Please, we need a Liberty City revisit (GTA 3, Liberty City and GTA 4)
I actually do a somewhat similar look at GTA 4’s Liberty City in my video “The Joys of GTA IV”, though it isn’t as deep of a look. I recommend it though!
Little fun fact: The yellow and white Oceanic is there in real life to this day. Its based on the white and yellow Oldsmobile Rocket 88 thats parked in front of the Avalon Hotel on Ocean Drive for decades now
This a GTA game I get back to the most. The music, the city, the vibe of 80's is amazing. It introduced me to a lot of great music, it still has impact on me, even 22 years later.
This video just made me cry in a way I never thought that could for game, not just for reviving memories from my childhood for the first game I've played in a time where me and my dad were much closer and things were simplier, but also for depicting how marvelous and well put together this world was.
I spent a lot of time playing this trilogy with my Dad, so I know how you feel. It feels so long ago now, but whenever I boot up the game, and game in the 3D trilogy, I get such a wave of emotion.
An analysis of San Andreas would be awesome. IMO it still feels like the biggest gta game ever and if gta 6 follows suite with multiple cities we could be looking at a perfect game to compare in terms of variety of landscape, cities, and countryside.
Thank you for using the old resolution and having trails toggled on! Playing Vice City on higher resolution and without trails really shows the imperfections of the game and hides the original atmosphere.
Yeah, people to often get lost in making "things sharp" and playing at resolutions never intended, and it just makes the game look worse than it originally looked.
Thing I remember most fondly visual wise about this game is the hues of the sky (sunsets and sunrises especially with the oranges and purples) and that wavey texture they had for the water with the subtle sparkling effect. I know R* have always tried to make their games look realistic, but the 3D games had this very specific artstyle to them despite this, but I can never quite describe it properly.
I really appreciate you taking the time to revisit the VC map, it was the gta I played the longest and inevitably accumulated so many memories that I could remember thanks to your video, good job and keep up the good work.
Man love this kind of videos! It feels sentimental, I’d love to see this type for liberty city and separate videos for each cities in San Andreas Being liberty city is my favorite one, I look forward to what you do for it.
I remember playing this game at my dad's 😭 I never did any of the missions, just drove around but still it's feels like how I imagined cities as a kid cause of that
0:28 Might be worth pointing out that Florida actually got retconned out of existence in the HD GTA universe. In GTA 4, characters still refer to Leonida as "Florida" (Niko in GTA 4 when talking to a serial killer and Al Di Napoli in TBOGT). I don't know about GTA 5, if it has any mentions of Leonida/Florida.
Yea I was a little confused by that, because I always remembered Florida still existing until then. The US is even more confusing in Red Dead. It’s hard to say which states exist, and which don’t, because some real ones ARE mentioned. I love the map/booklet that comes with Red Dead 2, which offers more lore on that alternate version of the US. Rockstar are so good at creating recognizable, yet unique places in their alternate universes.
You should do the same with 3 cieties of San Andreas, GTA III, GTA IV and at the end - GTA V. It's great to watch! Thanks for 20 minutes of pure entertainment.
Fantastic video!!! Vice City for me is such a comfort game I just love the way the city and atomphere look from the sunsets to the ocean water caustics. I really hope they bring back a modern version of the the North Point Mall it would look amazing with modern graphics.
You did an amazing job with the shots/footage in this video! It captures the vibe and nostalgia of the city so well! I hope you do something similar with GTA3's Liberty City sometime!
I hope you do all the maps. Maybe 1 city at a time so we can get Los Santos, San Fierro and Las Ventures in individual videos and close detail. Including their surrounding area as each was contained by closed bridges.
Maybe you can do this for some San Andreas places. Spots like Prickle pines are insanely calming and nostalgic to me for no reason I can identify. Queens and Garcia appear noticeably uncanny and odd. There are also a lot of funny npc spawn points.
The simplicity of VC's graphics with the art-deco architecture and neon lights I think makes it the best looking of the PS2 GTAs now. You could sell a game that looks like that on the Switch or something without necessarily marketing it as "retro."
Thanks for the Tour, its amazing how a 20 yr old title still have those intricate details. You should do an addition of VCS map although the same there is still differences here and there. Keep at it!
