Keeping Banton, a 6'9" guard, is a very good idea, given his production last season in a limited role and the cost/risk/benefit. Blazers could likely play the NBA's tallest lineup, though probably not a starting five. They could play two 7-footers, two 6'8"-6'9" forwards, Delano, and Shaedon. Surely, Coach will give it a look....sometime.
If a team that has been spending like crazy because they can is complaining about the second apron rules it's a great sign the rules are working as intended.
@@LockedOnBlazers they changed for a reason, tho. It wasn't some arbitrary "how can we make everyone's lives more difficult?" The teams complaining (i.e. the Clippers) are among the teams that were abusing their ability to spend like crazy.
I realize you are not specifically advocating for it, but I want absolutely none of Hachimura and his crap contract. I'm definitely on board with a trade but not that one even if they did throw in 2 first rounders...
Harsh! Lol I'm not really a Rui believer either but for two firsts (depending on protections, etc) I think it's a pretty easy yes from me (noted high level decision maker for the Portland Trail Blazers).
Yeah, I agree. Trading Grant for Hachimura and 2 firsts would be an incredible trade for Portland. Especially since LAL has so few firsts left and they'd probably try to load up a ton of seconds with this trade instead.
What Lakers would probably want to do instead, is Jerami Grant for Hachimura, '26 first, '25 second (LAC), '27 second, '30 second. But that would still be a pretty great value.
As someone “traveled” with Deni here and see Havhimura in DC for two years, it’s rare to see someone so allergic and lost in defense as he is. Literally headless chicken.
Two firsts with lottery protections, if they don't land right then convert to some 2nd rounders. I'd eat his contract for that. Fits with the timeline. We should know what the core is by the time his contract expires.
@@rcnyoplait Ant and Grant are probably going to be in the trades, anyway they won't be cut because they have value (and Grant has 4 years expensive contract). @user-sl1xk5jt3m I appreciate you. I regretted my reply once I realized "cut" was the point. I assumed moved or traded blah blah. Imo keep Shae, Scoot, Banton, Camara, Avdija, Walker, Ayton, Clingon. The rest would be flipped at best if I were in charge.
@@rcnyoplait Was going to say that cutting those names would largely be insanity. I'm all for trading them tho. I'd be fine moving Ayton, but doubtful other teams really want him. I hate how he's so talented yet didn't have the heart to play hard for a contender like Phoenix.
@lopoa126 same. What team would want Ayton? I hope for his best and am ready for his shining season where he justifies his salary. But... As a gm, to get any value from him, gotta move him before it's just contract paid. What would you take? Or what's your take?
Yes had a green light but. Last year Dalano Banton arrived mid season as a pass first pg bench guy with very limited NBA minutes. Suddenly he’s asked to run the offense, be the main scorer, get to the line, be a 3 point threat, play some wing, in extended minutes to carry this team like a Jason Tatum or something. Opposing defences focussed on him as he seldom played with starters. He mostly delivered as one of the most productive bench players in the league for 2nd half of season, in pts, assists, rebounds, blocks, steals. He had big games against Raptors and Celtics, (the teams who gave up on him). He’s a versatile gritty, no quit attitude player. Blazers need more of that, they should give him a shot for a full season
Blazers could've drafted Chris Paul. Thank goodness we traded down and opted for Martell Webster and Jarrett Jack. Why would we want Chris Paul when we had Telfair?
What are Blazers likely to do with those picks they sold in the draft? Sign players they otherwise couldn't, or just pocket the money? Will we ever know?
The money you get in trades can’t be used for player salaries and is not part of the salary cap calculation. So, directly, they will do nothing with that money. They decided not to draft someone at 40 for a potential two-way contract. They’ll make that decision down the line later this summer

Banton is a fine depth player for his price. Interested to see what a full season will look like for him.
That's a 6 person starting lineup. And given our talent, that's probably what we'd need to make the playoffs.
Benton is a Keeper
❤️ Delano Banton!!
At least 1 unprotected first + Dalton Knecht
I don't care for Knecht, he gives me big Davis Bertans vibes. I don't think he can defend in the NBA.
So two 1sts. Doubtful that would happen.
PDX needs tall players that can get buckets, thus Banton is perfect for that.
The issue is that he is streaky and inefficient. He is cheap and fits the role to help the team for now but he isn’t a long term guy
