Thanks. I have seen a couple of those on store shelves. It's a cool, big sort of Makarov looker. Tempted. Did research and found that they, as you said, had metallurgical problems. Wanted to , but never bought.

Actually, these metal probs are primarily in the firing pin IF you see them at all. I've got one that I've replaced the firing pin, rollers, and I've got chestnut grips and also replaced the slide lock. If you like little projects these guns are FUN to modernize. Most already have a new firing pin, worth asking if u buy one. Just look online. I think Harrinton has 3 different pins you can get. It's an easy gun to disassemble and has a really interesting roller system.

In the pre-internet days a friend showed up with one, wanting to take it out to my backyard range. With it was one partial box of ammo marked 7.62 Mauser, consisting of at least 3 different types of cartridges. He'd bought both at a gunshow for $100 thinking it a bargain. Unfortunately the bore was terribly worn and pitted so no accuracy and the old lower-pressure ammo had both poor primer reliability and apparently degraded powder causing several stoppages in the few magazine-fulls we fired. On my bench for cleaning afterward after figuring out how to field-strip it I was floored by the locking rollers which I'd not actually seen before, and the machining was smooth and crisp, especially for a service pistol. Doing what research I could I discovered the ammo error and that it could accept high-pressure ammo which they were supposedly issued with. Only a couple of my reloading manuals listed the Tokarev, and only one had a footnote about the CZ 52 but without loading info for hotter loads. After getting the correct 'Tokarev' ammo it was reliable but needed a new barrel still. I do remember the Tokarev ammo had what seemed to be sharp recoil. Parts were non-existant at the time and ammo was scarce and not cheap. Lost touch after that but found out more about this gun later. It was as advanced as the Tokarev was crude, total opposites serving the same need. Betcha Russian officers were jealous of their Czech counterparts!
The cartridge itself is interesting, with the nearly-identical case being used in Borchardt pistols (low pressure), then in Mauser and Luger pistols (higher pressure), then even higher pressures as the Tokarev round. You definitely need to know what ammo you've got for which gun, because it will all fit and fire once, which may be the last shot with the older pistols and hotter ammo. Some claim that the SMG ammo was intentionally used to penetrate body armor, but that doesn't make sense because in those days it wasn't in common use, and the Tokarev round was sufficient for that anyway. I can absolutely believe that 1600fps could be achieved with the CZ52 safely, not sure I'd want to be holding it trying for more.

Bought mine 5 yrs ago; LOVE IT! What a unique 'pocket-cannon' that'd be great for plinking or varmint shooting.... no other pistol like it & ammo is plentiful. Had Harringtons replace the rollers & firing pin, etc. Good vid; thanks!

I have replaced the stock firing pin and roller with a good aftermarket setup and I have 3 barrels with my vzor 52. 9mm parabellum, 9×23 and 7.62x25.. it is a very dependable and versatile firearm.

Very cool- where did you get a 9x23 barrel for it?

The Chech round was actually almost 10% hotter than the Russian round at first. They dialed it back because of supply question with other Com bloc countries.. (the round would destroy TT33 guns.) . Do not let your rollers run dry of lube
that is the main weakness of this gun. Some say it is the firing pin
but firing ammo of any modern manufacture has MUCH softer
primers so that should not be an issue. It would not hurt to have a spare firing pin and rollers though. I really like mine,, but I would not recommend carrying one for defense. These rounds have staggering penetration in soft targets.
