I love this video! Can I use this to insulate my home? I'm building an efficient home and feel terrible about using conventional insulation. I'd love to give this a try.
that's a random assortment of things for the substrate, I wonder what the differences are in brick strength using different substrates. Also does this work with any mushroom ? would different species produce different results ?
Straw and corn husks are used generally as they form a fibrous framework and the mycelium acts as a binding agent. I’ve heard that oyster mushrooms are the best as they grow fast, consume almost any nourishment you give it and the mushrooms themselves are quite good cooked.
What is the energy drink for? Surely there are better sources of nutrients that would result in less metabolites like a malt extract or for PH balance there are more consistent and cheaper supplies like gypsum
Looks like it is Agar Agar- 100%, you can see the package is the same as the one sold on Ebay as Agar Agar powder. May be somebody knows what is the white powder, is it flour or sugar?
Theoretically.... you could put the mycelium into any shape mold... yes? :) so theoretically... if you build a big huge "pizza oven" / kiln and have some sort of mold... silicone? You could fire any shape mycelium medium? Like...panels for home insulation? :)
what a beautiful video, it reminds me of "Requiem for a Dream". If there were Oscars for youtube videos, you should win it. Dont stop making videos please!!!!!
Preheat your oven to 200 degrees F or 93-100 C and bake your model for 45 minutes. This will effectively kill the mycelium and prevent any further growth. It will also dry out your model create a sturdy final product.
potenitally, yes, you may could use every mushroom without greater toxic effects. some may be better then others in terms of growth speed or dn+ensity :)..
@@AudioStorm1980 Mushroom mycellium and mold are very similar fungi - with some differences of course, like mushroom fruiting bodies - but, by that logic, that means mold would have to like caffeine if mushroom mycellium likes it, which would defeat the purpose.
I see somewhere, I don't remenber where maybe here ? : ua-cam.com/video/7q5i9poYc3w/v-deo.html , Anyways the idea was to use a thin layer of mycélium to stick the brick together, but how to cook the thin layer ? or using a mycelium who only need to dry, they working on it !
Theoretically cement paste should work, but i don't like ciment i recommend you lime past made with quicklime, very strong, here in french some médieval house are made with stone and quicklime, and still damn hard to break it !

That’s how brick is set. It’s stops the mycelium from growing so the brick can be used for building. This isn’t a how to grow mushrooms video. The bricks are great for insulation and sound proofing, this is the future of construction.. you can mould the substrate into anything you wish. You’re the same ‘expert’ that posts on other mushroom videos. It’s pretty obvious you have no idea what you’re talking about and your just posting insulting remarks, it’s really odd.
Any type of agar works. My tip is keep it simple. Go with potato dextrose. Or simply boil the heck out of some potatoes and use the water to mix with agar powder
why did you stop making videos guys.. this channel needs more appreciation... Good luck with the future projects
hi because
I love this video! Can I use this to insulate my home? I'm building an efficient home and feel terrible about using conventional insulation. I'd love to give this a try.
I know this is late, but yes! There are many people making insulation from fungus

its just cool, its handy for everyone, if you are in to it, you will change substrate mixture ;)

That's so F-ing cool. Thank you.

Looks like it is Agar Agar- 100%, you can see the package is the same as the one sold on Ebay as Agar Agar powder.

Probably malt dextrose; agar is non-nutritive, so you need to add something for the mycelium to grow on.
You can use food grade agar agar with nutrients mixed in. Google shroomery agar recipes and you'll find lots of agar recipes for mushrooms
@@VinchiVideo other brick tutorials use flour.
@@macrumpton Hey Michael! Please will you link me to the other brick tutorials?

amazing video to learn more about mushroom

How do you ensure there's no contamination

Can you show how to do the leather one please

You just made me puke...
Hi what is the name of fungi what produce this type of mycelium thanks
What is that container you used on strenghtening the brick?
whats the purpose of energy drink in this process?
glucose
how long does the brick have to stay in the oven? temperature?
Preheat your oven to 200 degrees F or 93-100 C and bake your model for 45 minutes. This will effectively kill the mycelium and prevent any further growth. It will also dry out your model create a sturdy final product.
Which type of mushroom ?
And what kind of mushrooms is that?
I think it might be Ganoderma Lucidum? The species they also use for their leather-making.
I think the idea is you could sample any mushroom and this process should still work
it looks different more brown / red? Does the type of mushroom makes a difference.
Yes the type of mushroom has an effect.
i have read that you can use plerotus and ganoderma lucidum
can I use a Liquid Pure Culture that I can buy in a syringe for that aswell? any tipps?
can i know what is the uses of the substrate? And why these ingredients chosen?
These are nutritionally rich materials that allow the mycelium to grow. But straw and water alone will be fine
What is the substance put with agar..
can someone explain to me step 4 in a more detailed version?
Hi! Awesome! So simple. Could mushrooms potentially start to grow if it wasnt toasted in the owen?
Yes, if not baked then it will fruit of the block, their recipe is very different to what the cultivation world uses but it'll still work.

Woah! How strong are these bricks?
in one of the mazda rebel videos on mycelium bricks they showed it surviving compression and impact better than concrete and fired bricks.
Ingredient list please
These guys look high as f. :D
Nice video btw.
I agree, but they don't have red eyes, may be they are on mushrooms....
seaweed
*man chuckles*
what is the substrate you used
Were you already found it? Thanks
Chopin! ;)

why it reminds me of wes anderson work?
What is the purpose of putting cat food?
hungry funghi likes it :)
I don't understand the step 2
then u should watch south park carefully
I'd really like to know what the energy drink is for ...
Could be like antibiotic. But I am not sure.
I doubt that... I would think either the coffeine to ward of bugs, or the Taurin for amino acid metabolism.
Mushrooms and myc are like us, they love caffeine. It's so the myc will take over fast before some other contamination can take hold.

All in all it's just another brick in the wall :)
WAIT so your telling me if you don’t put it in the oven whatever you make will continue growing??
yes it would, its an organism ;)
sure it does ,much slower without all the energy drink ;)
🤔 So what’s the catch?…
( 🤷♂️ Isn’t there always a catch?…)
I have a feeling.. i think there is another type of mushroom is also involved in building this video.

Energy drink? 🤣
Can we use a substitute?
Does anyone know where i can find a more scientific explanation for mycelium bricks?
MAZDA?!?
they look high af
They are working with shrooms
300,000 bricks later my oven broke.
Cat food and energy drink?, surely there’s got to be more natural sources of substrate etc, in fact Mycoworks only use agricultural plant waste.
Because to please the majority of millennial idiots you must be "cool" aka a moron.
I made a brick. Now what?
dex208 unfortunately any kind of cat kbble will work because they all contain cereal (actually very bad for cats)
Can you told me where have you put the bocal with the mushroom/straw/water ... ? In the dark?

Sadly termites would love the stuff.
I doubt it. Termites like cellulose, and mycelium is not cellulose based.
Catfood? Really? :D
There giving examples of what ingredients you can use to make the brick.
I have a hard time believing you got 0 contamination on the first run, not to mention the lack of sterile procedure.
okokokokokk
Never heat mycellium again. Read before you do such a wrong thing in the oven.
what happened?
