It was not because Canada had done something wrong but because the British had offended them and they blamed Canada for being identified with the British. It is also a very odd flag, because it has a papal symbol on top of a the french revolutionary colors of the modern french flag. It is like placing a catholic symbol on to of an anti-catholic symbol, but visually the flag works well.
Well the Acadian flag is based on the post-revolutionary French flag, a country that didn't exist until well after the French lost control of the Maritimes so I think a lot of people find it just not to be overly sincere.
Hi there! As an Acadian I didn't even know about the pope thing with the star. I check, and it's true BUT what we, the general public, know is that it's the star that guides our sailors to safety. Acadians of old were mostly fishermen after all. Cheers!

I think maybe another good comparison for the colonial flag‘s use nowadays might be the Nordic across variant of the German flag, which was proposed after WWII, but dropped for the tricolor we all know today. It too is now used more to assert Germanic/Nordic supremacy, though probably not with quite as much toxicity as a Nazi flag, or the CSA battle flag.
As someone from Ottawa, I’ve seen the French Ontario flag more than the Ontario flag, it’s on buildings, outside and inside schools and of course at French Ontario protests
The red ensign was never an official flag of Canada, though it was commonly used as such. One of the most recent changes to it happened in 1957, when the new Diefenbaker government changed the colour of the maple leaf cluster (at the bottom of the shield) from green to red. The red ensign is very appropriate during Remembrance Day, and RCL or ANAF Veterans buildings

Diggin the hair jj. And I enjoyed the video. One of the fee if not only youtubers who make videos about canada. At least in an interesting way
Hey man, just started to watch your videos a few days ago, I really like them! Hope you reach 100k soon.
Btw your new hair colour looks amazing
Lol you know basically every group in every country makes modifications to their flag to represent their groups, right? Like they don’t want it to be the new flag.
_The Maple Leaf Forever starts playing loudly_
tbh the "pearson pendant" looked the best
Hey JJ,
there’s another indigenous flag that is really important to the native candian community which is the Haudenosaunee (pronunciation: hoondnashownee) flag. I am indigenous myself and it would be cool to see the haudenosaunee flag represented here.
It's a very cool looking flag. I once saw this flag flying in a garden here in Germany out of all places.
From a Canadian who knows far too little about Canadian history, thank you for this channel
You should make a whole video on cascadia as some one from the east coast I think it was cool when I heard of it
The cascadia flag really reminds me of the Lesotho flag 🇱🇸
I think that was the best transitions I've seen on UA-cam. Hopefully some day when Maritime union occurs the Acadian flag will be adopted.
any alternative to canadian province and state flag:exists*
J.J.:throws up*
*obscure.....* I’m going to pretend like I don’t notice the background.
I don't get it.
J.J. McCullough I think he means the Arrét sign 😂
@@JJMcCullough why do you have a Brittany flag?
@@robertleary6230 I think a fan from Brittany offered it and he showed it in a video where he opened gifts from fans
I have seen the Cascadia flag quite a few times here in Oregon. It always reminded me of the flag of Lebanon.
It's more similar to Lesotho 🇱🇸
@@MoeSzyslak20 Yeah it is almost identical.
I am a normal guy. Whenever I see a video notification by JJ Mccullough I click.
I love you.
@@liminallilac I love ALL of you.
@@JJMcCullough yay thanks
André Lussier you’re putting me on the spot!
André Lussier I.... love..... the fine... people.... of.... QUEBEC
Love your videos, these are great, man.
I like your new hair, godspeed
My school was a french-manitoban school and we made a quilt of the French-manitoban flag
I really love everything aboot this channel :D
Man, as an Uruguayan who also holds Canadian citizenship i really find your videos as an awesome way to be in touch with my other country, i'm always very happy when i see that you've uploaded something!, Keep it up man.
can you talk about how back in the past there were moments in history that Canada could of have own some of the Caribbean islands.
There is still some talk about Canada acquiring the Turks & Caicos.
genuinely love all that newfie swag, and I've never even been to Canada, let alone Newfoundland
... considering we down under could have had a kiwi pooping rainbows or a laser eyed kiwi, you shouldn't be complaining. 😂
The Pearson Pendant is frickin' awesome! So much better. So sad that it was dropped due to the connotation with the whole 'Prime Minister can't just make our flag' thing...
What a segway "you know who taught me how to make this flag"
The Cascadia flag is popularly used the the PNW MLS teams.
7:19 okay, when did Canada get 21 provinces? Wait - so 1) they're all married or 2) all the lt. governors + provincial premiers?
I was thinking the same thing
I just want to collect a bunch of flags. That Pearson flag looking really good 👀👀
Cascadian flag is just Lesotho x Lebanon flag ahah
Honestly your videos are the highlight of my week.
do more flag videos!
I've run out of flag ideas!
@@JJMcCullough then do more current leaders of the world video
I was thinking about having a flag similar to the Austro-Hungarian flag but being cheesy and it became “the Ameri-Canadian empire”
The open hate of french Canadians really comes through in this one. The Acadian flag has a lot of history to it, and in fact is probably the most common of all the flags you mentioned. Certainly in New Brunswick you see it all over the place. Yet it barely gets a sentence.
For a Swede that one with the infinity symbol reminds me of the old grocery store chain Konsum, even the same colors.
Im surprised you didn’t mention the native version of the current Canadian flag. I really like that one.
Super into the Cascadia flag tho but that could just be my northern van isle logging roots shining through
I think you could argue that the Red Ensign use is less like the Confederate flag and more like St. George's Cross in England.
Free Cascadia!
Wow. JJ’s been coming out with all the good vids lately.
Are you sitting on a yoga ball?
Look if people change the flag to represent their group it's a good thing because historically people actually rejected the flag. By changing it I'd say it shows greater acceptance of the design which was not liked all to much when it was introduced.
