Hey Paul! Thanks so much for answering my question! Maybe the island you visited was Fuerteventura. It is veeery windy!, so much so, that many people think its name means, in Spanish, “fuerte viento”, or "strong wind". However, it is not, its name actually comes from Forte Ventura, or “Great Fortunate ”, as it was called by ancient navigators. Come back soon!! We look forward to welcoming you!
I've never experimented with it myself, but I believe the functions are in Sigma Studio for programming DSP so it should be possible to try for anyone that likes a bit of DIY.
I'm a big fan of noise-canceling headphones as a complement to a solid collection of both closed-back and open-back wired headphones. At home, when you're in front of a good audio system, there's no real need for them. But for travel or staying somewhere with a noisy AC system, they are absolutely phenomenal. Bose, in particular, has mastered noise-canceling technology over the years. When used in the environments they were designed for, the effect is nothing short of incredible. The moment you switch them on, background noise-especially low-frequency droning-drops dramatically, creating an instant sense of calm. It's a testament to Amar Bose’s innovation, a small but meaningful advancement that makes our daily lives just a little bit better.
Noise cancelling heaphones have existed in aviation for many decades now, and they have all used microphones with inverted polarity to cancel the noise. According to Wikipedia, they were first developed in the 1950’s.
Many have been pretty poor. The Dave Clark’s still lack optimal clarity from ATC. Bose were the best option but I used Sennheiser for several years due to improved frequency range, even if they weren’t as quiet as Bose. Bought Lightspeed Zulu’s 5 years ago, best I’ve ever owned. Still not audiophile frequency response but the silence and clarity communicating with ATC is unmatched. I believe Lightspeed uses 2 microphones to cover broader frequency range for cancellation.
My understanding is the best theater applications do use dsp with subwoofers to cancel low frequency room resonance issues. I had opportunity to attend a premier at Skywalker Ranch several years ago. The film was great but the sound in that theater was mind blowing. It supposedly has over 30 speakers with each speaker custom built for its exact location in theater and many are actually noise cancelling despite wall and ceiling surface treatments throughout.
As a pilot, I use Lightspeed Zulu set. Incredible how silent their ANR is but they are not great playing music. Very limited frequency range. Speaking with ATC, they are much better than Bose or my old Sennheiser’s. If they could maintain their clarity but offered the full audio frequency spectrum of quality home audio headphones like Stax or Audeze, that would be incredible for home audio.
The noise cancelling opposite phase still uses I believe EQ, you have to for Voice! you can't block people's voices that would be dangerous, mainly at machinery noise frequency that is blocked
Incredible earbuds. The noise cancelling feature works very well and the hearing aid feature is a game changer. My wife and I are in the 70’s and couldn’t believe how well they work!
They should make noise cancelling speakers using the microphone. Better sounding speakers that cancel out room noise while listening to music or watching movies
They have for quite some time, but... then they also put microphones that picks up engine and exhaust noise so you can get a "racy sound" inside the car. 🚗 🔊🙈
I recently bought myself a set of Bose Quiet Comfort ultra. Over 400 quid! Not everything they are cracked up to be. Some head movements pause the video. Lift the left can to scratch your ear also pauses the video. And you cannot switch these features off with the app. Another thing the app is basic and very limited and the HMI is poor. The cup material is PVC so making your ears sweat - a top notch cotton-based material would be much better (very poor for the money). Yet all the reviewers rave about them, which has dented my faith in some reviewers. Perhaps you should develop a PS Audio set that work properly!

I have had several pairs of the Bose variety of noise cancellers, all with old school wire. They work just fine in noisy environments. Not so good for just listening at home though, as they have a background noise all of their own. Great for air travel, poor for home use.
You should be able to turn off noise cancellation for use in quieter environments though. Most NC headphones have settings for noise cancellation, ambient sound (enhancing the environmental sounds), and "off" for use as normal headphones.

i wonder if this technology could work on loudspeaker room colorations especially lower Hz 16 to say 35... just a thought. Thanks for sharing Paul.

We need a PS audio version. Just throwing that out there Paul. Ps audio headphones 🤔🤔

Why don´t car manufacturers use active noise cancelling? Would be great to cancel road noise.
They do. Well BMW does
My Acura also had active noise cancelling.
It's a standard feature in many premium cars. I know Land Rovers have it in RR and RRS, possibly Velar too.
They have for quite some time, but... then they also put microphones that picks up engine and exhaust noise so you can get a "racy sound" inside the car. 🚗 🔊🙈
its cheap to make and I feel all cars would benefit from noise canceling, especially cheap cars.
Fun fact, some airplanes have used planar drivers in cabin to reduce engine noise.😊

I have a set of the same, helps on a long flight even when there is no signal coming through it.
@@stephenchen1420 Yeah, they are great on flights. They work great on a constant noise like you get on a plane.
They bother my ears. Had to disconnect the mics in the car (which has noise canceling).

They were developed for (possibly by) the British RAF in the 70s to reduce cockpit noise and always were reversed signal based, never EQd
