Sorry folks, I ended up selling the bike.
I kind of got an offer I couldn't refuse. I paid around $1700 and I sold it for $1100.
Not too bad. That's about 100 off for every year I owned it (6).
It was just getting too dangerous to ride around town.
Though the saga of this bike continues on.
If you read all troubles I had in getting it registered on Chinariders and if that wasn't bad enough the bike was stolen from the guy I sold it to 2 weeks after he bought it.
I told him to use the boot lock/alarm ANYTIME it was out of view and I even gave him chains and disc-locks.
I told him this was a one of a kind in this town and it would probably be stolen at the first chance.
    Guess he didn't listen.
I tried to help him out so I re-listed the original craigslist ad with the word "STOLEN" in the headline.
Within a few days I got a call from another bike person who said he saw it in a garage with other bikes when someone tried to sell them to him and he remembered seeing my ad.
I hooked that guy up with the buyer and the bike was recovered that night.
They took out the ignition and put a toggle switch on it (very fixable) was about the only thing they ruined.
Even though I sold it I'll keep the video up for others who may need it.
Thanks for all the likes, views and comments.

Great video. Found one online locally in February during quarantine. I bought for a few hundred$ and a project to keep me busy. Sat outside for 6 years before owner decided to sell it. It would't run and discovered it had a bent valve. 7 dollar valve set and a simple lapping job and runs great. I think mine is the California version with all the emissions junk but It's great for around town and running errands. The Honda decal makes it look perfect and I get complements from everyone who see is or use to own a classic CT70. As of 6/19/20 it now has 1800 miles.

I tried a Honda Dax, the new 125cc 2023 models, and wow man. This bike is small, but it's fast! I was going over 60 miles. I'm buying one as soon I have my licens.

  • @bryan45k
    @bryan45k  8 років тому +9

Okay folks, it’s almost been 4 years now and I can honestly say
    this bike is pretty solid.
Although about 2 weeks ago I pulled it out from winter storage, filled the
tank, and the gas was leaking from the fuel cock and from the carburetor bowl.
It’ll need new seals and a new needle assembly.
Took it to a nearby small engine repair shop that I had noticed months before.
I saw they worked on scooters, quads and dirt bikes (at least 20+ outside the
shop area, so they have lots of clients) so I thought I give them a try first.
First off, they loved the bike …more on this later.
Turns out, in the end, it will only cost around 50.00 to fix.
Now, I will explain a few things about why I bought this bike that I didn’t get
    to say in the film.
Here’s what led up to me buying it.
I was looking for a 125 street style bike. Not a scooter and not a 250cc.
See, I used to have a few bikes back in the day.
    I had a Suzuki GN125 and a Honda CM125.
These bikes looked like street bikes, not like enduro’s.
So the hunt began. I started with the majors Honda, Suzuki, etc… and none of them
had or made those style of bikes anymore, although …they did have 125 enduros …errr
    not what I want.
Ran across the Skyteam (Jiangsu Sacin) model, did A LOT of research
on the company and found Trail Buddy as a North America distributor.
The Jiangsu Sacin Motorcycle Co. also makes street style bikes too, so you may ask …why that model?
I was looking around and I saw these and I had a flashback to my youth.
If you didn’t have one you knew someone who had one.
It was practically standard suburban issue along with Frampton Comes Alive.
Unfortunately, I didn’t have one …but I always wanted one.
The decals kind of reflect that feeling.
Unfortunately, Honda doesn’t make them anymore either or I promise you I
would have bought it from them ….but only if ….they up the cc’s to a 125 also.
Once I found out these models were 125 and not the 70 or 90cc’s that Honda once
made and even had a lot of upgrades even. I was sold.
I feel you need at least 125cc’s to keep ahead of, or stay up with, today’s
    street traffic.
So yeah I had a childhood relapse of sorts.
The bike works great and it’s a great conversation piece.
I’ve taken it to a few bike night rallies and people absolutely love it …lots
    of photographs.
I get thumbs up from all types of bikers when I’m out riding it.
It’s an all around fun bike …even when I’m not riding it.
Right now the only North America places I know of that sell this style are:
    www.retrobikes.com/ct70/ct70.php (90cc & 110cc only)
    gokartsusa.com/Mini-Trail-Dirt-Bikes.aspx (3 different 125 CT style models)
So back to the shop; they actually kept it on their showroom floor when it wasn't in the shop part of the building.
Everybody who came in loved it.

      Hi Bryan,
First THANKS for posting this video!!! I'm sure you saved me from a few busted knuckles and some serious rounds of self-doubt. I have been looking at these for years and Wholesale Cycle just had them on sale for $1,099 and my resistance dropped. They were not selling them for a year or two and I think it had to do with emissions. Mine has a LOT of tubes & valves I have not seen on older bikes.
I think the "bonus" brackets attached to the rear turn signals might be in case you don't install a luggage rack. Also, 50/50 chance and I hooked the left turn signal on the right side. Took off the black plastic rear mud guard and got everything sorted. I used one of the zip ties to bundle up those wires before I buttoned her up.
What I can't find is a place to mount the rear round reflectors. Maybe I could use a bonus bracket - ha!
      Anyway, MANY thanks my friend!!!
      Walt

No problem Slowpilot, glad you enjoyed it!
To tell you the truth I also hooked up the wrong wires to the wrong signals.
They're not labeled so you just have to try.

Thanks for the info, I love the look of the Skyteam T-Rex. Here in Australia, not too many people selling them, so when they come up for sale, they are pretty much new price for a 2 or 3 year old bike. Have to pay premium for them on the east coast, because you can only buy them new from the opposite side of the country. I originally wanted the Suzuki RV90 or the RV125, but they are not too common and to buy one in good condition is new price for the skyteam or more. For a 70's bike, it's a bit risky, but so is the Skyteam really, being chinese, but good to come across your info and update.

I just got mine a few days ago and I am training, because it is not like driving my car. My husband put it together and nuts and bolts needed to be tighten on several places. I am really happy with the bike. It suits me fine as I am quite short. Your film was really good. When the parcel came to your home it lookt exactly the same when it came to me here in Sweden.

Instead of correcting you about the correct number of strokes situation, like so many others have clearly overstated, I will say what a great and wonderful video on this nicely made bike. I ordered my own a couple months ago and should be delivered any day now. This video was one of the many reasons i decided on this exact one. I just hope the registration will not be as hard as you had commented about; even though I am not planning on taking it on the street very often.

Thanks for this video! really nice. I am into low displacement motorcycles and mini trail. This one is a really decent clone. Here in the philippines and the rest of asia, china bikes flood the market. I own 3 of them, really good quality and saves me a lot of money, and hours and hours of priceless fun! Although there are mini bikes of 100 to 125 cc displacement here, NONE have the same look as the Honda mini trail. I would love to own one. Your bike has the classic look, it is simply a beautiful bike!

  • @bryan45k
    @bryan45k  11 років тому +2

I had the same problem in beginning and there's nothing in the manual about this issue.
There are 2 kick stands. One to lean the bike to the side, and one that's more of an upright bike stand. You can not have the side kick stand down when trying to start it. In fact if it is started, and running, and you put the side stand down it will kill the engine. Look closely, the side stand has wiring going to it. For starting and idling in place use the center stand. I don't know why they added this?

These can be registered for all 50 states, although in California you would probably need to buy one at a dealer who registers it for you. Many states have their own rules to register. I live in AZ, and these would be very easy. The guy in this video posted his experience of buying this bike on chinariders dot net and the company had messed up the paperwork, and New Mexico gave him many hurdles, although he eventually got it registered. Licensing is probably mandatory--I know in AZ or Cal., these being 125cc bikes, you would have to have a full motorcycle endorsement (or at least a temporary motorcycle permit).

mytrailbuddystore.com/, 2) Bob Jones , the bike did not come with Honda Decals. Bryan stuck them on. 3) Bryan as others said, there was never mixing of gas and oil on the Honda Trail Bikes. All 4-Strokes. Honda CT70's were automatics.

What I did have was a YZ80 and you had to mix the gas/oil on that.

I figured that since Honda's was a 70cc, lower than the 80cc I had, it would have to be mixed also.
      Btw ...This isn't a CT70 video.

Good vid, but I just cannot trust the inconsistent quality of Chinese products in general. some of it is good enough, but a surprise is not what I'm looking for when it comes to transportation. I would go for the honda ST90 if someone wanted a bit more power and can afford that collectible bike made from 1972 to 1975. The ST90 is the CT70 with bit more motor.

i would stay in neighborhood or park, asking to get pulled over on the open road, why risk your life ? Should fit inside an SUV , many of these handle bars fold, just get a ramp and goto trail or big park with bike trails

If you buy one of these chinese 4 strokes, know that :
    - The chinese engines are all made in one big factory. The "little" companies (Skyteam, Zhenhua , (Jingcheng)) finishes these bikes. Zhenhua is the cheapest one but that doesn't change anything about the quality, IT IS the same engine. Skyteam is more expensive, that is because they put more aftermarket parts on and some little details.
Here ( in Belgium and The Netherlands ) the replicas are very popular. I chose for a Zhenhua because then i had more money to spent on aftermarket parts. Parts from Japan are expensive but the quality is very good! Chinese parts are mostly... shit...
Like the most chinese exhausts are... You better buy an expensive exhaust if you want a better sound on your little bike. After some time, the quality of the sound of an chinese exhaust becomes very "bad" and loud.(exhaust wool gone) For the rest chinese parts are ok. You have lots of parts that are fake and cheaper. You almost don't see the differences between some Japan parts and Chinese replicas.
Some people ( and HONDA Fans) say this is all shit and the quality is very bad. But if you adjust your valves and put some oil in every 1000km, these bikes let you drive easy 30 000 km...

Are you saying it's a CT70 "clone" meaning that it's really a 125cc? If so, more than likely you will need a license. Not sure what state your in, so you'll want to check with your local DMV. Where I live you don't need one for 50cc's and below. I never got one, but as long as the bike is registered, tagged, etc... and your not driving it stupid, you shouldn't ever get pulled over. If it's the same bike as mine, no mixing of the fuel, just regular gas. Don't use mid-grade or Super.

      Try your math again.
(3.5Miles each way I believe is what he stated in the video, 7Miles round trip)
1 GAL in a car avgy 21 MPG) would last him 3 days for strictly work commute. 7miles x 3 days =21 Miles.
Ok, so 1 GAL in car = 3 days commute. Use the same kind of match to figure out the bike now..
1 GAL in bike (80 MPG) would get him to and from work over 11 times..

That liquid...sulfuric acid...just sayin 'cause anybody who needed the explanation definitely needs to know its sulfuric acid. I would charge the battery 8 hours, then top off the battery to the proper level and charge it some more.

HONDA's have Always been far better than their Chinese clones! In 1972 I purchased mu first DAX (Original name of this bike) which was constructed for a 49cc or a 72 cc (Western-Europe and Japan). The frame is to weak for a 125cc engine. The Chinese overall problem is "weakness": metal, paint, chrome and all kinds of finish are all VERY poor quality. The HONDA's were strong, reliable and fast! The bike had drum brakes, that were very good for the bikes maximum speed of 60 km/hour.Only weak point in those days were the tires of Bridgestone, we replaced them with big Michelins. Now I drive a Chinese clone that has been upgraded with many Japanese elements. The Chinese gaerboxes are very bad...HONDA for ever.Frank
