Doug, we are two peas from the same pod. For those who say they don’t have the time for this, I say you don’t have the time not to do this. The sum of the time wasted mid-project looking for tools or supplies, that you know you have, greatly exceeds the time you take to organize in the first place.
My shop is pretty organized, not Doug organized by any means. One thing though, watching your shop organization videos always gives me inspiration to get in my shop and implement many of the things you’ve done. Great video Doug!💪👍
@ You’re very welcome & Thank you for making this beautifully organized video!!! I am getting my workplace together & you have given me sooo many wonderful ideas 💡!!
Doug...I have watched endless videos of shop organizing and layouts and absolutely NONE are as good as the setup that you have. I have been trying to get my shop under control for years. I'm limited on space but I have used several of your tips and hacks and am more than pleased with the results. Keep on keeping on my friend!
One of the best shop additions i made was a dishwasher for parts, bins, etc. Second was a apartment sized stack washer and dryer combo. Rags, drop cloths, greasy clothes, etc, with apartment size its only 24in wide. 2025 has been a clean up and get rid of crap kinda year. I have 2 shops both 30x30 one is metal and automotive only 2nd one is work tools (contractor/ property management), material and a full cabinet shop worth of tools. Last few years its been a catch all, open the door toss it in close the door. So far i have taking 6 loads to the dump with my 8x12 dump trailer. Heaping loads. Im done tripping over junk. Plus i want to build some cabinets soon. I have founds well over 10k in materials i purchased for jobs and couldn't find it at the time so it was purchased sometimes 3 to 5 times.
Thank you for sharing, I believe that I was introduced to your shop by your neighbor a few years ago , you have done such a great job of keeping it organized I commend you. I am struggling with mine, hopefully one day soon it will click I think I am at the point that I need to purge to make progress. As far as parts bins I have come to like the DeWalt with the individual cups they work well.
Good morning Doug. I haven't seen your videos recommended for some time but I'm glad this one was. This is the exact type video that got me begging you to start your own channel in your neighbors comments. I love your organization ideas, this was a great video. Thank you for sharing your skills knowledge and experience. I appreciate you
My dad started us using peanut butter jars to store nails and screws in. They are durable, spill proof, uniform size and free. Back when quart oil bottles were a rectangle most of the way up we would cut off the top 1/4 section with the spout. Used them for nut, washer and bolt storage. Again uniformed size and free. For your bulk screw and nail storage cut the label off the factory container and place it in the bin so you (or your helper) knows what you’re looking at.
I was just thinking about your vids when I realized I needed to organize my mobile mechanic trailer more… I was like I haven’t seen a video from doug in a while. I needed this, just started watching
Good to hear from you again Doug! - I enjoyed the video - great timing also, as I'm planning out (on paper anyways) reorganizing my garage and two sheds this Spring, and I've been collecting various storage bins over the winter to keep things in. I kept looking for the cash register/check out area, as a couple of times I thought sure you were in a Hardware store - LOL ! As for video content, just about anything you'd want to show us I'm sure we'd find value in it. Thanks!
I have a separate tool box for electrical stuff and keep crimp connectors, heat shrink and wire loom there. I haven't found a good way to store clamps yet but I've been swapping over my automotive clamps over to constant tension instead of the worm clamps.
Doug, love how you've got the shop organized. Ever think about doing a video on how to get started with organization? I'm probably like a lot of folks who've got a junk drawer, and a I save all the extra hardware I get from whatever I purchase in a plastic jug. When I need something I pour out the jug and see if I can find it. That's a good place to start with explaining how to organize = pour out the jug, get some of those retainer things, figure out the labeling system (here's where your experience comes in) and begin to put thing away where they can easily be found. Thanks for sharing.
Great video. Provided motivation and ideas. You do have great organizational skills and I like hearing and seeing how you have things set up in your shop and garage.
I was just going through my garage yesterday doing the same thing. Got rid of a lot of things I've never touched in years. As far as screws and bolts and things... I'd rather have the space instead of housing all these parts that are rarely used. I've decided to let the hardware store do that! Where are all those oddball times when you need a specific part, my plan is to just run over to the hardware store. Good video, thanks.
Those Stalwart bins are exactly what I’ve been looking for. They are similar in size to the other brands and they’re great for smart parts like machine screws, wood screws, sheet metal screws, rivets, wire connectors, etc. The biggest seller is having the different length bins for the different lengths screws.
Enjoyed the video 👍 Here's a suggestion for a video..... How about a complete toolbox tour? I know you did a partial tour on your garage tour video, but not a complete one. Have a Jesus filled day everyone Greg in Michigan
Absolutely and I’ll bet you it will generate more views than any other video you post. A few years ago I did a video for a friend on unboxing a GPS for my kayak and someone asked me to do a video on the new Harbor Freight toolbox I was using as a table. 54,000 views later I kicked myself for not asking folks to subscribe so I could monetize my channel 😉
