- Conrail is just a little over two years old. We are out on the CR Middle Division, at Cove PA. We watch, as a few trains pass the private crossing there. Hope you enjoy the sights, and the LIVE sound that our early, primative equipment captured on Super 8mm sound film. Movies taken in 1978.
Thanks for watching
Video was taken by myself with a Kodak Ektasound Super 8mm Sound movie camera

I just Love that Sad sounding horn (1:09) on that Black GP38-2 !!! HHhhhaa : D
WOW! Nice step back into the nice step back into the early days of CONRAIL!
My friends and I were trackside in I believe it was Orangeburg NY. On the former NEW YORK CENTRAL YORK CENTRAL west shore And former PENN CENTRAL GP38 was leading a NORTHBOUND FREIGHT. It had the worst sounding Leslie RS3L air horn we've ever heard! It was either in 1979 or 80. One would only hope CONRAIL put a new Air horn on the GEEP!
Somethings you never forget! Thank you for sharing there brother in Christ!
Thanks again Jack for your foresight in recording the way things used to be. Love them.
Great videos of the year I started at Conrail.
Thanks Jack for another look back at early Conrail!
Nice video. The units and the horns are demonstrative of just what kind of shape Northeastern railroads were in on the eve of Conrail.
I thoughrouly enjoyed seeing this.
Nice to see the early days of Big Blue, brings back happy memories
Another great video with great catches! Classic old style railroading, great work Jack much appreciated!

Now that is some old classic footage! I was probably sitting up to Conrail BO interlocking tower in Kalamazoo, MI that day. 1977-1979 I practically lived there, any chance that I could!
Anything is possible bobozo! There was a lot of places that I practically lived at. Thanks for watching...
Hey Jack,
Fantastic video brother, thanks for sharing! I really enjoyed this, and hope to see more of this type of stuff published.

This is fantastic! Wow that horn sounded like a drunk elephant's mating call
Thanks Woden. That horn was pretty sick! Thanks for watching...
Does anyone know what kind of horn is on Amtrak #437 at 2:15?
Great stuff! Loved the horn at 1:48
Excellent video Jack.
Thanks bud. Glad you enjoyed it...
Great video Jack!
awesome video! i dont think ive heard a more fouled horn. thanks for sharing :)
The horn was pretty bad Tony! LOL. Thanks for watching...
Hey Jack just curious, how much did a Kodak sound camera cost back then? I was in my teens, and tho my Dad had one I wasn't allowed anywhere near it. He was also a bit of a railfan tho and did get me a Bearcat hand held scanner for my 14th birthday. Not the same but I put it to good use!
Fantastic!, do you have any vids of the Santa Fe main line Hutchinson Newton Emporia Kansas subs by chance? Would love to see some new or old action out of there ...
Is there no end to your collection? Great job again mr Jack.
Dave from allentown.
LOL, Just scratched the surface Dave!!! LOL. I'm thinking about putting a couple clips together at CP Burn, maybe Emmaus, ands some D&H and CR at Bethlehem. So keep an eye out for that. Thanks Dave, and thanks for watching...
2:53 An Alco in 1978?!
Loved it!!
In one of his other video, he used that exact footage and stated that it was in 1979.
Awesome footage! Thanks for sharing! That is definitely the most fouled horn I've heard to date! Then again, it's PC, I'm sure towards the end that was common... Also, is it just me or did the numbers on the side of one of the conrail SD units towards the end of the footage look too far to the left?
It was number 6027
Yah it did!!! The red markers were lit in the nose as well. Thanks for watching...
At least it was running. That was a small miracle right there! LOL
Is that a dying goose on the third train??
Might be Brandon, or someone squeezing it a little tight. LOL. Thanks for watching...
Alcos - spell check got the one below
Alcoa!
Long befor NS/CSX destroyed everything from CR.All those poor Pennsy signals.I know it's railroad progress.I don't hate them for it.Paint all NS units CR Blue. Then I might model NS.
Then they'll be advertising Conrail, not themselves.
