What a useful review! I have retired from an organization that was Windows only. I’ve had iPads since they were introduced, but now, in my post-retirement world, I find myself doing real estate work. I’m trying to move completely off the Windows world so that my entire workflow is via my iPad Pro. Your straightforward, no-nonsense, and fact-filled video helped immensely. Subscribed before the video was half done. Thanks a million.
Something you might enjoy is code server. You can install it on your pi, then you can connect to it over https on your pi and it gives you a FULL visual studio code directly on your browser. There are also some other apps that turn web pages into apps as well. It is pretty slick. Great video, thanks!!
codeserver is fantastic. I was using it on a digital ocean vm and just recently bought a raspberry pi. I will be using it there.for most of my development.
Over the last few years I’ve used my iPad as a “laptop” replacement since 2013 I think. And now I have the 2019 iPad mini as my daily driver. With the exception of cd/dvd copying, I really don’t need a computer. Overall happy with my set up
I’ve gone iPad Pro only. I sold my MacBook. I use the iPad for everything - I even wrote, edited and published a full novel using just Pages on the iPad.
Thanks for the advice. However, I checked the [ SanDisk Ultra 64GB USB-C - geni.us/4cS2 ] and it seems to be a very bad product according to customers: 1) Hardware connectors (usb-c & usb-a) seem pretty bad (loose connection) 2) Overall hardware is to be badly fitted/assembled, or of poor quality (not sturdy) 3) this key is subject to overheating 4) Writing throughput is very bad for a usb3 (15MB/s !!!) 5) Reading output is average So, for small files in small quantities, and not frequently, and trying not to break the usb port of PC of one of the key, you may be able to use that not-too-expensive key ... not for a long period ;-) These are customer testimony, what is your take of those claims?
I myself recently went “iPad only” so your experiences are really valuable for me, thanks. My request is to hear more about video editing and the apps you are using. Keep up the good work.
I only got the ipad7 because it sadly can‘t replace a laptop for me. As an IT Student I use my iPad in college for everything except coding. It‘s a great device for work and a great motivator at home to get into digital art for me.
Since I retired 5 years ago, I’ve been using my old iPad Air almost exclusively. I just recently purchased a 12.9’ iPad Pro, and I love it!! I still have, and occasionally use, an Acer 14” laptop, but as it is almost 15 years old I doubt it will see 2021. I’ve been testing various BT keyboards and keyboard cases. The Logitech Slim Folio has won out.
I took the plunge last night. My work requires 2 laptops. One encrypted. I decided to get a pro just so I don’t have to sit at a desk to work on personal stuff. Your videos were a great help! Thanks!
I recently switched to iPad Pro only and just yesterday bought my Logitech slim folio, so when I came across your video thumbnail, I just HAD to click it. And now after watching your excellent video, I just HAD to subscribe :D Thank you!
Now I feel silly. Just figured it out - you have to have “files” open on the iPad and now it works. Thanks for your time and effort producing content to educate and help us newbies:) Cheers!
I’ve had a MacBook Air for almost two years and a 2019 iPad Air for two weeks. My iPad Air has twice the storage of my MacBook. I also have a TON of iCloud storage. I have an Apple Pencil (1st Gen) and since the last update, it works very well. I’m still ambivalent about my MacBook. It has all my spreadsheets, but I’m going to experiment with the iPad a little more.
I’m sold, going to purchase the iPad Pro 12.9 and buy the accessories you suggested. No more laptop. I also subscribed and will watch for part two. I really like how you get right to the point.
I bought a high end gaming laptop from asus in October, and then got my iPad Pro 11 in November, Now my laptop is just sitting at the desk, everything i do, is on my ipad pro. In Love with it! Also thinking if i may have wasted money on the laptop as i don't use it as much.
Great video - I got my iPad Pro 11" 8 days ago and without having seen your video until now: I got the Logitech Keyboard Case, the Apple Pencil 2, the MX Anywhere 2 mouse and the exact same SanDisk stick :D I got a different USB C hub from Amazon with a ton of connectivity (2x USB, 2x USB 3, 2x USB-C, HDMI, 2x slot for SD card, 1x slot for Micro SD) and just keep using my old 2,5" HDD
I actually used a first gen iPad as my primary machine for many years. Had to do a LOT of workarounds in the early days, admittedly. For instance I needed to use a third party browser and Dropbox be able to download/upload anything. Thankfully those days are gone. In fact the only major limitation I find with an iPad these days is screen real estate.
Hi, enjoyed the video. I too have started using my ipad pro as my travel laptop instead of the laptop I use in my office. There are two things about it that would make me never use it in the office: the fact Office apps (word, excel, etc) don't work as good on an iospro device as a windows device, and inability to attach multiple monitors. I need multiple monitors for comparing large docs and spreadsheets, but since I don't do that on the road, it works. Thx.
Sorry it took me so long to view this, it sparked my interest. I am strongly thinking of eliminating my laptop and using my IPad Pro for all my work. The hardware is no problem but I need to transfer some files to the iPad. I’m using a Windows based laptop and hop it can work. I will search for episode 2 and if there are any others I will also look for those as well. Thanks
The Logitech K780 Keyboard is genius for anyone who uses an iPad Pro, smartphone & Mac/PC, because it allows you to flick between all three devices with a click of a button. It comes with a cold-dock for your iPad (to hold it at an angle for typing) plus there's room for your smartphone to sit next to your iPad. It's very slick and battery life is TWO YEARS from normal AAA batteries.
I also took the plunge and have been using iPad 11/LogitechSlimFolio Pro keyboard/Apple magic mouse for a few months now. I find that I can do pretty much everything with the exception of some specific activities in Microsoft Office. For those, I use Splashtop to connect back to my home PC. I have on occasion forgotten that I am working on my home PC through the iPad because it such a seamless product. LOL
If you are using Logitech gaming mouse and is having lag issues when connected to the ipad, the solution is to first set the polling rate of the mouse to be 250 or less on a machine that has logitech gaming software downloaded first. I tried and polling rates of 125 and 250 are both lag free. 500 and 1000 gets really bad lagging issues and renders the mouse unusable on the Ipad. I think the same logic could be applied to other mice if you are having trouble with them. Hope this helps someone!
I tried to do iPad only and it didn't work for me-and I really wish it had. My biggest issue was the print window in various apps and the fact that Affinity Designer and Photo did not have rulers along the screen, if those criteria were met, I would have stayed iPad only. I honestly think the iPad Pro is an incredible piece of tech but iPadOS and software companies need to address some stumbling blocks. Given what I experienced, I would have to say at least 50-70% of folks could probably very easily use an iPad only. I ended up going to a MacBook Pro and there are features I do miss from the iPad but at days end, I know I made the right choice for my needs.
You're facing the Hyperdrive the wrong way. The text is supposed to be on the back, turned away from you. The plastic part that bridges over the edge is supposed to be on the front. Using it the other way will work, but can cause issue with HDMI and file transfers at times. It is not meant to be an awkward fit, but to fit flush with the pad while the folio cover is attached. You can double check this on the marketing of it on their website.
I’ve been using the iPad Pro for my main device as work requires me to use an iPad whenever I go to see my clients. Instead of such expensive equipment I bought a China made foldable keyboard that folds into a box where I can keep my Apple Pencil and it is small as it folds into a small box approximately a quarter of the size of the iPad Pro 10.2” and for storage, I am using a network access storage in my office. Sine the NAS is available 24/7 from anywhere around the world I don’t have to carry any additional device for storage. Connectivity wise I use the hotspot from my Blackberry KeyOne, this Blackberry runs on Android and has excellent power management with my heavy use after almost 2 years it still gives me 6 hours of battery life including constantly providing a hotspot connection to my iPad.
Yes I do all my editing on LumaFusion using my 11” iPad Pro in the Logitech slim foiling pro. I couldn’t afford a new laptop so I compromised with thus set up but I’m starting to think it was a great decision but I hope they give us a better cursor soon🤞
I literally just did the exact same thing this past weekend. So far so good. Trying to get a good wireless multi cam streaming setup that’s iPad run. So far Switcher Studio seems to be the only game in town.
ummm im an ipad user myself, but i also hae my laptop and desktop setup at home for doing heavy work. if someone needs a portable device, i would suggest them to buy a macbook air something similar with an additional external storage. the cost for your setup seems to be pricier than a full on laptop and youll need to carry every little thing with you everywhere you go, where as having an actual laptop will have all those things in one small package. thats just my opinion though. i always say, if something works for you, keep doing it.
I was that close to upgrade my old mbp to a new one. The next thing I know, I come back from the shop w/ the iPad pro 11 instead, and never looked back ever since. Guys, I can only recommend to get out of your Comfort Zone, and try something new. It took me a bit of time to get adjusted, and that was an exciting and fun process in itself. I thought I couldn't live w/out Finalcut Pro, PS etc... Now I have LumaFusion, and I have Procreate, and I am veeeery happy. :)
I have an XPS 15, but rarely take it on the road now. My 12.9 iPad Pro, Smart Keyboard case and Pencil are so much lighter and have so much better battery life, its kind of a no brainer! Great job of explaining!
I travel a lot for work and am still torn between Windows and IPad OS. I have a Dell XPS 13 7300 for my at-home working life but I recently got an IPad Air 3 and it has worked for everything I could need while I’m on the road. I keep track of things using Google Docs and Sheets, and I’ve even been doing a bit of graphic designing while I’m on the road. I got a case/external keyboard that basically turns it into a laptop, only thing I would do different if I could go back is possibly get the 4g because my Verizon MiFi hotspot sucks and never has good service. Even though I’m still a windows guy, I have to admit that Apple is still the only company that makes a tablet device that’s any good.
I hope Apple will make the 12.5 inch iPad Pro with four stereo speakers. Once you figure out how to improve the sound by attaching on the back a piece of plastic behind the speakers you get the best sound ever!
The information on the alternate charging set up was so useful. Apple could have made their canlr a bit longer to begin with. The SansDisc was also excellence. Thanks so much and I just subscribed👍🏼
Great video. Can I ask, have you come across browser problems. For example, I use Mailchimp (email marketing) and whilst they have an app, some things can only be done on a desktop browser. I have tried on safari on the iPad and some features simply are missing from the pages. To access then I needed to go back to my laptop. I also had a similar problem with UA-cam studio ... any suggestions?
Far fewer issues since iPadOS and the upgrades of Safari. I use UA-cam Studio in Safari a lot now and it works great. There’s still the occasional website that treats Safari as if it’s special but they seem to be going away over time.
Great vdo. Thanks. Going to iPad only too. And therefor need an advice. I backed up all my files on external disks from Mac Book Pro. The external disks are USB plug. What's is the easiest solution to be able to upload/download those files from/to iPad/external disk? Should I buy a new external disk with USB-c plug or is there another solution? Thanks
I think this is very informative and may consider doing this. However, I think that the most eye-opening part was that you can throw away a cable that you don't use! I literally never thought to do that; I have a bin filled with old cables that I just throw them into when I have extras. I think that I will start doing that right away.
Excellent video. Used G5's iMacs and the Mac Mini. Now, I am looking to work only on the iPad for future projects - looks like from your setup it's the way to go.
Thanks man. I have been contemplating upgrading to the 2020 ipad pro from my 10.5 version and use Lumafusion for my editing. Using Final Cut Pro X at the moment but my computer is starting to lag so much its almost unbearable. I see you are shooting 4k. Are you doing your editing in LumaFusion? Just curious what the experience is like in 4k. Thanks again!
I began with version one of the 10” iPad Pro, and the Smart keyboard/cover. The experience was horrible, and I quickly went to the Logitech Keys to Go. It is the exact right size for a 10” iPad, and worked sufficiently well while allowing me to keep a compact bag. A friend of mine bought a 13” iPad Pro with the Smart cover, and hated it. The short version is that we swapped, and the 13” version of the keyboard is fantastic. Again, I’m really looking for that small bag to carry around.
There’s this iPad holder type of thing I’ve seen at the Apple Store that the presenters use during their projector sessions that I think sure would be useful for like scanning pages with an iPad without needing to hold the iPad and press the shutter button with one hand.
Excellent. Clear presentation. Although I have used my 2018 pro exclusively for over a year I now need to connect to a monitor. I guess that can be done via HDMI....but I wonder if you have any thoughts about monitors as I need a bigger screen for writing at times....and also for watching videos/movies etc..... Thanks.
Great presentation. thank you. the only thing missing was the horribly expensive Air Pods! I have used my 1st Gen 10.5” iPad Pro almost soley since I got it. LOVE the Logitech Slim Combo awesome in so very many ways. A major problem I have since iPad OS is that the Magic Mouse 2 is not bluetooth supported. Crazy right!! the way that they tell you to connect it NEVER WORKS. I spent an entire 2 days getting it connected without bluetooth and once I was successful, it was great. Then I went to use my Mac Book Pro and not being a fan of the trackpad, I bluetoothed my Magic Mouse 2 to it. Worked great but bad idea....when I went to use my iPad again, I had lost the connection to the mouse because I”d bluetoothed it onto another device. The solution was supposed to be very simple. Forget the device on my Mac Book Pro, turn bluetooth off on the Mac Book and shut down the Mac Book. I did all this but the problem wasn’t fixed. I’d forgotten how I’d done it last time, so I did my research again and not even Apple mentions the fact that it’s not bluetooth supported on iPad OS!! They give instruction to connect the Magic Mouse 2 exactly the same way as any other mouse. iIt says clearly on the screen (under the bluetooth devices in accessabiliy - pointer devices - bluetooth devices that the Magic Mouse 2 is not bluetooth supported but I could not find ANY info the 2nd time around to re-connect my mouse. How could they possibly give you instructions to connect it the same way as other mice? Surely they know that it won’t work that way!!!! This is a very stupid mistake by Apple and I can’t believe they haven’t picked it up, or even mention it anywhere. I read about 100 other articles and found a couple of different ways to set up any mouse if you’re having issues with connection but NO ONE OUT THERE has picked up on the fact that the Apple mouse is not bluetooth supported!!! I am flabergasted about the whole thing and furious with Apple in particular. I’ve decided to just go and buy a 3rd party mouse, so I’ll have the very expensive Magic Mouse 2 sitting around collecting dust.
I’m absolutely astounded at how bad the experience is with the ‘Magic’ range in general. I am super happy with Logitech stuff and their Bluetooth implementation is always fantastic.
Thanks for the video . . nice job. I'm guessing that someone has already mentioned it but there is no easy way to search, you installed the HyperDrive backwards. Put the plastic lip in the front and it fits perfectly.
The port that is missing on the USB-C dongle that you recommend is an Ethernet port. If they had put an Ethernet port opposite the HDMI port I’d own one.
You doled out loads of useful info, so thank you for that! I want to replace my desktop, but need one to transfer non-Apple music files. Apple doesn’t seem to allow for that at this time, unfortunately. Do you know of a work-around? There is no way to transfer the actual downloaded music file into the Apple music app. Music is very important to me and that’s why I can’t make the full switch. I would love to ditch my Windows desktop! ugh!!
I love my iPad and use it daily but I wouldn’t make it one day if I tried using it exclusively. I am a CPA and my software requirements would rule it out immediately as well as the mirroring of all duplicate screens. One can hope but iPad only is still a far away dream.
Great video mate! I use the Brydge keyboard and absolutely love it, its a bit heavy but it really is a solid keyboard and makes me really feel like i have a laptop.
I use the iPad Pro 11” with Apple Smart Keyboard. Plus the i-Blason Halo V2.0, Apple Pencil, swiftpoint GT mouse, and Kingston Nucleum USB C Hub, 7-in-1 Type-C Adapter Hub. For video and photos I use LumaFusion and Affinity Photo. Work related I use outlook and Apples iWorks suite. With iPadOS I’m doing about 95% of my daily on the Pro. Macros are my one need for spreadsheets.
Tech Craft I wasn’t Sure at first. It’s small and finger placement was similar but different from a standard mouse. I did lots of research prior to purchasing. That said, I’ve grown to like it quite a lot.
I purchased the Sandisk dual drive to access files on the iPad - just wondering why I can’t get it to work? I’m a tech newbie and live in the US. There must be an app to make it work? Like you, I have the iPad Pro 12.9. Thanks!

I’m doing the same with the iPad Air 3. Pro is nice if you can afford it, but there really isn’t much difference in practical use. Almost never use my desktop PC anymore... even for photography work.
You gotta invest in some iCloud storage my friend...2TB for $10 a month. I have no idea what the conversion is for you but still super cheap compared to spending tons for extra storage on the device itself
I have 2TB of Dropbox which runs around the same per month. Couldn’t live without it! The reason for the internal storage is so I can do more regular, larger video projects on the iPad. Right now it’s not really practical to edit off external storage. Some of my projects have 200GB of footage that needs editing together. I’d love to have enough space to carry 2-3 live projects on my device at any time, and still have space for all the other stuff I need.
Tech Craft that makes a lot of sense for you, I pay 4 bucks a month for 200GB of iCloud on top of my 64GB of internal storage. I also don’t do video editing lol so I don’t really need any more storage than that. Love using my iPad Pro as my main machine!
I moved to an iPad only production workflow for audio video, and image/graphics work. LumaFusion is quite nice for video editing. Missing a few things, but always being updated. With iPad OS is is much better regarding files and working with external media, although the Files app itself is still a bit wonky along with iOS/iPad OS 13 being a bit buggy. I expect LumaTouch people to continue developing the product, but for what I do I’m almost completely satisfied. I’m loving it for audio and graphics as well, hooking it in to a very nice interface for recording live audio. Then syncing the audio with video recorded separately on an iPhone in the audio app (Auria). LumaFusion doesn’t do great with audio. I love the HyperDrive USB-C that you are using! I also have a bigger one for when I want to hook up more. Having the heftier wall charger is essential to use the hubs if you want to run accessories like drives and interfaces and still fast charge the iPad. Anyway, I’m trying to completely move over to iPad Pro anyway. Still need to get a mouse, and hoping to see Brydge release a trackpad keyboard (in a lawsuit with Libra currently). Even added a PS Dual Shock for games. It’s all working great other that the issues to still iron out with iOS 13.
Thanks for the video. I want to go laptop free, as well but, have a question. How do you transfer music to the iPad without a computer? I hvae tried putting them in Files but music doesn’t have a way to import the files?
Lots of functionality missing from a PC, but my main gripe right now is I can’t upload music files to my iCloud Music Library from iOS/iPadOS. Or edit the metadata (genres, artist, title, comments, etc). Or create smart playlists.
Nice video. I have the same USB C hub and had trouble connecting. Contacted manufacturer and they told me the lip needs to be at the front of the iPad (not the back - you also had it back to front in the video). It fits all of the keyboards then with no probs.
Hi Rob. Having recently bought a 12.9 iPad pro I’m following your videos and advice on productivity. However, a question .... which I’ve googled to death and can’t find a definitive answer. The Apple Pencil 2. If it ‘drops off’ into my bag, goes missing/unused for a few days and the battery goes to zero, does it harm it? I picked up angst from users saying that it’s not possible to then recharge. Or was that the Pencil 1? Do you have any thoughts about that? Regards and thanks for the info. John S
I wish I could do all of my work in a sound designer getting ready to purchase Nuendo by stienberg a German software company it does everything in post production, gaming, film Score music video but I don't think I can run this audio software.
Thanks for the video. One thing you might want to mention for people who use the ipad for drawing / digital painting is a screen protector like paperlike or icarez that has a bit of tooth to it so the pencil feels a little more natural than the slick glass when drawing. The down side is that they do have a slight translucency to them so it knocks a little bit of the intensity and clarity... but it is very minor. It also reduces glare and reflection. I will say for me, i do not think the ipad will ever replace a laptop unless they can get away from the crippling os that makes saving and moving files to different apps and locations a bit of a pain at times. I have alway been a "save it to the desktop and then drag it where i want it" person. My other beef is that the ipad seems limited in working "Ram" If you use apps like procreate and want to edit large hi resoloution images for printing poster size art, you will quickly reveal the limitations. I really would love to see an ipad with a full operating system, and maybe even a larger form factor as it would reduce the amount of zooming in and out that you need to do in the current form factor. Now I know I am dreaming, but i would love to see a 24" or 30" tablet that works with the apple pencil that could be used as a studio device (as it would not be very portable) that has a full operating system. The ipad studio pro!
David Gordon I’m really hoping we see a big increase to working RAM in the 2020 iPad Pro, and maybe a 2nd USB-C port! I just received a paper-effect screen protector in the post so I’m going to be trying it out for a little while and I’ll share my thoughts.
Going to have a go at going iPad only. Have you had chance to see the Apple Magic Keyboard yet? Not sure if I should wait until it is released next month?
I'm considering purchasing an 11 inch ipad pro with keyboard & mouse etc. I type fairly fast. I'm concerned about using a smaller than standard keyboard that would go with the 11 inch. Would I get used to the smaller keyboard? Thanks
It sounds so much worse when you say it in USD! Joking aside though, I definitely feel like I get the value out of the setup. I use it pretty much every day for a whole host of different things so I can’t complain too much. There’s definitely worse ways to spend that money.
@@tech_craft No offense, I love your video, it's high quality and provides a lot of great information, but i just want to see more footage of product itself. : )
I always love these videos! I have an iPad Pro and I use it exclusively for school! My Macbook Pro is now only used for streaming or even watching this video about iPads haha!
I absolutely agree about the storage, go big. I have the 12.9 and I’m not having very good luck with battery life. Admittedly I’m doing video editing but even when I’m not editing video it feels like battery drain is excessive.
Have you taken it to Apple? I’m still reliably getting at least a full day of usage out of my 11” which is now over a year old. I’m not doing much video work on it, but I’m doing a decent amount of photo work on there.
Tech Craft thanks for the reply. I have not contacted Apple. It can sit unused and lose 15% in 8 hours. I’m always mobile during that time so I just turned off location services and I’ll see what happens. If it continues I’ll contact Apple. Thanks again.
no true 4K on screen or output from the single usbc connector on the ipad, not to mention no true trackpad and mouse support, which is better than touch at some things, apple needs to add thunderbolt to the ipad, along with at least 2 ports, and a file system like mac osx, along with a minimum of 8gb ram for full apps with 16GB being an option.
Thanks for this! I've been thinking if I should go with iPad Pro on my next daily driver since it can now handle the desktop version of WordPress and the page builders.
Excellent video, thank you!! I have been flirting heavy with the idea Of going iPad only but am a little nervous to jump both feet in and for the price of the pro it’s all in or nothing 😬.. your video has tipped me over the edge by not only saying but demonstrating the very capabilities I was nervous about. Excellent work and thanks again. Cheers
I seen a track pad for ipad pro to use rather a mouse. Slim , easy to store and nice size . No fumbling with the mouse pad or the bulk of a mouse. Love the hyper drive . Have not see this until now . Thanks from 🇨🇦
Great video! I'm thinking about selling my MacBook because I want an iPad and Apple Pencil for medical school and I feel it's too much for me to own a computer and an iPad... Anyways, I'm buying the iPad Pro 12,9" + Apple Pencil + a keyboard later on, how much storage do you think I will need? Is 128 gb enough for 5,5 years of personal life and school, like taking notes, download a couple of apps, write an occasional essay..? :)
Being a lifelong Windows OS user since 1984 I’m about to jump into either the 2020 Macbook M1 Air OR the 2021 IPad M1 Air world! I’m not sure which I’ll buy yet. I ‘do’ like the fact the MacBook M1 Air is capable of side loading Windows OS though. And, I have no clue if the 2021 IPad Air will do the same…what’s YOUR opinion on which to choose? (I’m not a gamer or a coder) Stay safe and God Bless! ~Jim waving from USA~
Good info, subbed...I try and try to go Ipad only but cannot, I have Chinese work software, altho everything else is fine, Luma fusion etc. and love to have Iphone and Ipad in pockets when travelling. A good app is JUMP remote...I can use the Mac at home when I m away, but no headset or mic possible. I'm waiting for real virtual machine for ios...maybe one day.
There’s an app in TestFlight called iSH that provides a virtualised Linux. I think it shows that virtualisation can work and work well on the iPad, so hopefully we’ll see more on that in the future.
Been iPad/iPhone only for 6 years now. Nice to see others walking this path.
Seven V, why are you being nasty to a total stranger? What did I do to you?
Something you might enjoy is code server. You can install it on your pi, then you can connect to it over https on your pi and it gives you a FULL visual studio code directly on your browser. There are also some other apps that turn web pages into apps as well. It is pretty slick. Great video, thanks!!
codeserver is fantastic. I was using it on a digital ocean vm and just recently bought a raspberry pi. I will be using it there.for most of my development.
Thanks
Over the last few years I’ve used my iPad as a “laptop” replacement since 2013 I think. And now I have the 2019 iPad mini as my daily driver. With the exception of cd/dvd copying, I really don’t need a computer. Overall happy with my set up
I’ve gone iPad Pro only. I sold my MacBook. I use the iPad for everything - I even wrote, edited and published a full novel using just Pages on the iPad.
As a student who’s going to write research documents I’d be very interested if you could share more about your writing experience on the iPad Pro !
sami terki with the keyboard cover it’s very nice to type on. As long as it has the software you want I’d go iPad only
Hong Kong Tech just using pages. How
Thanks for the advice. However, I checked the [ SanDisk Ultra 64GB USB-C - geni.us/4cS2 ] and it seems to be a very bad product according to customers:
1) Hardware connectors (usb-c & usb-a) seem pretty bad (loose connection)
2) Overall hardware is to be badly fitted/assembled, or of poor quality (not sturdy)
3) this key is subject to overheating
4) Writing throughput is very bad for a usb3 (15MB/s !!!)
5) Reading output is average
So, for small files in small quantities, and not frequently, and trying not to break the usb port of PC of one of the key, you may be able to use that not-too-expensive key ... not for a long period ;-)
These are customer testimony, what is your take of those claims?
I use my iPad for porn mostly
I myself recently went “iPad only” so your experiences are really valuable for me, thanks. My request is to hear more about video editing and the apps you are using. Keep up the good work.
One word. LumaFusion
Hi Michael what do you find yourself using the laptop for? Just wondering what kinda things you can't do on an iPad
You've got new subscriber man - straight to the point, minimal design! I dig it! Cheers!
D Marc update on that? I just bought an iPad Air 2019 as my primary. A little brave but I told myself I would buy a MacBook if it didn’t workout.
One word -Ebay.
Man, you got full quality for the accessories. This is my dream setup for my iPad Pro.
Great video - I got my iPad Pro 11" 8 days ago and without having seen your video until now: I got the Logitech Keyboard Case, the Apple Pencil 2, the MX Anywhere 2 mouse and the exact same SanDisk stick :D
I got a different USB C hub from Amazon with a ton of connectivity (2x USB, 2x USB 3, 2x USB-C, HDMI, 2x slot for SD card, 1x slot for Micro SD) and just keep using my old 2,5" HDD
Am i the only one that love the old Apple pen? popping that hood off after a long session, battery drained, take a break, you earned it
Thank you! Been using the iPad Pro 12.9 as my primary all of 2019. I got tired of lugging around my MacBook.
This was a great video. No fancying around with all the pre-able etc. Very informative, well presented and clear. I have subscribed now.
Thx.
Excel on Windows is really hard to beat.
Thanks
Great video Rob, very useful. On to part 2 now......
Really good video. Great tips. Well done. I've not made the leap entirely but certainly when I'm travelling the laptop stays at home.
LOL
I just purchased the iPad Pro 3rd generation 4G version I use it for literally everything it has replaced my laptop as I can everything I need
Well now I just feel silly! Thanks for pointing that out. That’s going to make life much better!
Tech Craft turns out throwing the cable away was quite okay
I love how excited you are about the Anker power brick. :-)
It’s the little things!
For such a small brick that thing is powerful!!
I’ve been using iPad only for years, I have a top of the line Toshiba laptop which I haven’t used for at least five years
All rich hard Why it’s clearly not top of the line anymore if it’s 5 years old
tread lightly lol
This is what I was thinking exactly..
Excellent video...
Thank you so much for sharing this video.

How do you only have 4K subs?! I get that many likes on comments sometimes! Your channel is so underrated!
It’s gone from zero to nearly 5K in just over a month. I honestly can’t quite believe it!
Tech Craft Well you deserve it!
Haha. I have to force myself to process the cable box every few months otherwise I'm afraid it will take over the house.
Very helpful. I am currently navigating my iPad Pro...it is a gem for sure. Keep up the good work.
Excellent video. Used G5's iMacs and the Mac Mini. Now, I am looking to work only on the iPad for future projects - looks like from your setup it's the way to go.
I just picked up the gen 3 12.9" 512gb cellular. Can’t wait for the increased performance!
U don’t need an iPad Pro to replace your computer. Unless you are a heavy duty user, you can get in just fine with the 6th gen.
I’ve gone iPad Pro only too, sold my MacBook after months on non-usage.
True the Brydge keyboard is a very good solid keyboard. Very comfortable to type on.
Agreed , I still prefer the Brydge keyboard to all others on my iPad Pro. I do feel like a McBook Air.
How’s the Swiftpoint? I’m very tempted.
Tech Craft I wasn’t Sure at first. It’s small and finger placement was similar but different from a standard mouse. I did lots of research prior to purchasing. That said, I’ve grown to like it quite a lot.
My Ipad pro 12.9 is my main device.. with pencil and logitech combo keyboard.. its like a macbook for me,,, l love my ipad,,,
I purchased the Sandisk dual drive to access files on the iPad - just wondering why I can’t get it to work?
Good call and I only need the thumb drive because I have to install program from it to a pc/Mac.
Haha now the Magic Keyboard is out. And it‘s so much better than what you are showing here 😅
like this iPad pro intro, your voice and accent is very clear, no need cc function ;)
I’m considering the same. Great detailed info. Much appreciated for a new subscriber to your channel.
Yeah, I made the same mistake only to find the hub works way better the other way around 😂
John S
Excellent presentation on the iPad Pro!
Hi, When the Ipad Memory runs out Is there any way of of an external hardrive taking over ?
Regards
Geoff
Great Video, it would have been nice to mention the briefcase you are currently using to carry all this gear. Thanks a lot.
I've been using this one: geni.us/odFAwf
Going to have a go at going iPad only. Have you had chance to see the Apple Magic Keyboard yet? Not sure if I should wait until it is released next month?
i know ipad can do that but i love my macbook and all the key commands i ve been keying since the 80s
I'm considering purchasing an 11 inch ipad pro with keyboard & mouse etc. I type fairly fast. I'm concerned about using a smaller than standard keyboard that would go with the 11 inch. Would I get used to the smaller keyboard? Thanks
I love iPad Pro as much as this guy. But goodness, his setup is like 3000 US dollars!
It sounds so much worse when you say it in USD! Joking aside though, I definitely feel like I get the value out of the setup. I use it pretty much every day for a whole host of different things so I can’t complain too much. There’s definitely worse ways to spend that money.
Terrific video! Big help. Thank you so much!
LumaFusion for video editing definitely!
I’ve gone IPad only. However I’m using the air 3 😊
Deyane Brun me too the Air3 is great for my needs and way more affordable. Do love the look of the pro tho, so maybe next time
Chris Pidgeon Music I strongly agree with u on that! It’s way more affordable 💸💸
SOME ADVICE : You look great and handsome but as a tech review, i prefer watch the product itself more instead of your face.
Thanks. Fully noted 👍🏼😀
@@tech_craft No offense, I love your video, it's high quality and provides a lot of great information, but i just want to see more footage of product itself. : )
No offence taken at all! I really appreciate you taking the time to give any feedback.
@@tech_craft maybe like 60% you 40% b-roll would be a good balance. Great work man!

2:15 video begins
I always love these videos! I have an iPad Pro and I use it exclusively for school! My Macbook Pro is now only used for streaming or even watching this video about iPads haha!
I wish Adobe made InDesign available for the iPad and I'd be in. Love my ipad, but for work, I can't part with my Macbook Pro quite yet.
It sounds that your walking around with suitcase for all this accessories and the iPad on the other hand :)
Not quite ;). I carry pretty much everything in 20L backpack that I can expand to 30L when I need to put clothing etc. in for a 1-2 day trip.
Tigerex966 If they done that they wouldn’t sell any MacBooks.... There is reason to their madness
Cheers
Good luck with it. It takes some adjusting and like all things it has it’s trade offs, but for me at least it’s the right set of tradeoffs.
Did you go iPad in the end?
@@michaelnewnham7870 I did and I am absolutely in love with this thing!! I ended up with the 12.9”, 512gig with cell service
Hi Rob. Could you please do a video on an iPad-only video editing?
For sure. It's on my list for early this year.
