I had a hunch when working with subd in Blender that it needed a sensitive eye/touch, and this confirmed it.
I was following your subd modelling very closely, trying to really see on the reference picture where each vertex were, how the rings were rotated and scaled. But when the modelling was finished, and I looked from your video to my Rhino window, I felt a smidge of frustration. Each attempt at correcting my model, through scaling, moving and rotating made it worse.
I'm gonna try again from scratch tomorrow
Still, thank you for the tutorial, I learned a lot!

Good luck, it is a very sensitive method! I highly recommend using as low poly as possible and then adding edge loops at the end to acheive the right curvature.

great tutorial Andrew! one more tech tip, if you're recording in OBS there is a way to add a filter to cut out noise. So any space heaters, fans, or computers processing get clipped out while it's recording so no need to post-process 👍 Feel free to DM me if you want help on the config! Great content I'm sure people will continue to appreciate your contributions on modeling best practices. Cheers!

Hey Tim thanks for the help. I just figured it out and also learned how to adjust the patterns on my new microphone....so hopefully you don't feel like you're inside my computers fan on the next vid. Thanks!

@@AndrewFriedenberg All good! I remember using the Blue Yeti mic before and adding the filter in the recording software helped smooth over rumblings that go through the desktop into the mic if not on a stand and also typing/fan sounds. But anyway! Wasn't distracting enough that I didn't listen all the way through.

Thanks for tutorial. Could you make it for Shigeru Ban's centre pompidou-metz hexagonal structure? I tried it but i couldnt achieve by using grasshopper so i did it one by one and it was so time consuming :)

Oh wow that’s intense doing that manually. I’ll check it out and give it a try!
