- Today we are talking about why social media can be dangerous.
Sorry for the delay guys a lot has been happening over the last 2 months. Custard’s bodywork is almost ready to have a brand new colour wrap and we CANNOT wait.
We’ve been a bit quiet on social media lately and have had to take a step back to work on us as a couple. We realised the busy lifestyles and all the behind the scenes stuff meant we weren’t giving each other enough attention, we were arguing constantly and our relationship was slowly slipping away from us. So we decided that counselling would help us sort all of that out - which it did!
So you have a brand new Kinging-it! - We’re back on form with a brand new vlog and with new head space which is just what we needed over the Christmas period!

You couldn't find more genuine people than you two, in this online world full of fake personalities created to sell lifestyles. It takes real guts to make this video and we admire you both so much, for so many reasons. Something good is worth fighting for. You'll be back in your groove before you know it and we'll all be here to share the highs and the lows with you. We've said from the beginning of this channel we wanted to be as transparent as possible and really show the realness to this online 'job'. I'm glad we did it now, the response we've had has been pretty overwhelming. Thanks for your kind words miss. 💗

I didn't realise how broken I was until I finally went to get some help. Takes a lot of courage to take that first step, even more to admit it to 51,700 of your closest friends! I enjoy your UA-cam content but not at the expense of your wellbeing. Take a break when you need to, we'll wait!😃

I edited a video for the missus' work once and it took me all bloody day, which gave me a little insight into how much work goes into the videos UA-camrs do!
Have to say, it was very brave of you to admit that you were struggling a little with your relationship, and exactly why this channel is head and shoulders above other UA-cam travel vlog thingies I've watched. Despite having the full UA-camr starter kit (oversize glasses, charity shop clothes, vegan, Craig's moustache 🤣) the authenticity shines through.
I've had a couple of tough times with my missus where we talked about if it might be easier to walk away, but after a lot of tears we remembered that the reason we're together is that we both found the love of our lives. The most important thing is to face the challenges as a team. and give the missus a snog now and tell her how much I love her 😘

The only thing I regret about going to counselling is that I waited so long to do so. TRUE, but they were also making a circus out of their social media use and it had started to turn me off, frankly. I prefer more authenticity and a more down-to-earth attitude but that may not be a very British thing... with all the appearances stuff and whatnot. I will watch the video now.

Thank you for your honesty! People are mirrors of the things that are unhealed within oneself.....if one triggers you, then something similar is unhealed within you....a relationship can be great as long as both parties make it safe for the other to become vulnerable in expressing their feelings.
I've found you two recently, and been binge watching from the beginning. Yall are my new favorites and you make me laugh daily. Mental health should be as normal as seeing a doc for an infection. Much Love and Respect!
I only just watched this but a bit ago I sent you and a few other vloggers a TY video. Reason being, whilst things might not all be as rosie as they seem on vlogs, there IS a HUGE positive to what you all do. You show people around the world that, people around world are the same. If you think about it, that probably has a better chance of bringing about global tolerance & understanding than any major broadcaster or even the UN! I can see the headlines - "The 2021 winner of the Nobel Peace Prize........Amy and Craig from Barry, S.Wales". Keep it up chaps. Top notch!!

You two are awesome and living proof that we are given everything we need to succeed in our neighborhood as well as everywhere we go. We just have to slow down the idea of angst or urgency. Be quietly within yourself and open as many solutions will unfold outside our own contrivances. And just know it and let it be. Rule your own world is a correct affirmation but ya gotta be honest with yourselves and others. And believe without reservation that you are beyond deserving to do so. Love you guys. 😂
Your vulnerability is so courageous and incredible. You both are truly inspiring and I love that you saved each other instead of scrapping it. I have been with my partner for 13 years and we have had our fair share of moments where we have felt so similar but be the change you wish to see in the world and we found that pushing through the darkness makes the bright, light moments so much more worth it. Thank you for sharing this because so many don't and just put out the "relationship goal" material instead of the latter. Love to you both.
guys i love this video and i love you! i get burned out and frustrated with the channel all the time and we dont even do it full time. and craig, if you ask paddy and thijs, they'll both tell you im the strongest man of the budgeteers so dont feel too bad. this youtube world is a double edged sword and i can imagine that going through it all full time with your partner will only make it that much more tough. content creation will never and should never be more important than your mental health and i really admire and appreciate you guys for putting this out there. i am sending you endless love and hugs. xx lina

Thank you for sharing this with us. I can well imagine how 24/7 everything can be so exhausting and overwhelming it leaves little or no space for you as a couple.
Having had therapy myself I realised that it can be make or break on many levels.
No one should feel afraid, weak or that they’ve failed by having counselling (providing it’s a good fit with a properly qualified person) because if you break a leg you go to the appropriate person to have it mended and ‘head health’ as I call it, is no different. We are an entire being after all.
One of the many things I absolutely love about you guys and your channel is the realness which is invaluable!!!
So many people won’t consider therapy so as you said if you can help/encourage others to seek help and support to help them get back on track with their lives, well it’s worth everything!!
I’m so glad you decided to take time out for yourselves and very happy that you’re doing ok! I think going forward you can continue to apply what you’ve learned and have an even better honest and supportive relationship which will spill into your busy work lives! I’m 57 so that shows the broad range of people that watch your videos and get inspiration from you both... if I’m fed up at work I go straight to a kinging-it video to cheer myself up. I don’t believe that mental or emotional health is misunderstood, we’ve all been educated enough on the subject. The issue is that it’s silent. If we see someone with their arm in plaster we realise straight away what’s happened and how it will repair and it’s easy to say to the person, how did you do that. Any sort of emotional turmoil and we tend to be so scared, because we know it could happen to us in an instant, that we deal with it by avoiding the subject. You, talking openly is a wonderful gift for those thinking that they are the only ones that suffer. When you consider that relationships are just an extension of ourselves we should do exactly what you’ve decided to do... look after each other first. With the exception of does my bum look big in this, honesty with each other is the best policy because (as my grandmother always said) a problem shared is a problem halved. This morning I wondered when your next vlog would be and low and behold here you are...Counselling can be a dirty word to some people but I'm a big advocate for it. A qualified stranger can really dig for the right answers and often tell you things that you're too frightened to say out loud. Well done to both of you for sharing the lows as well as the highs, ignore the odd negative Nelly (or Neville lol)...they don't have to watch and I'm happy if they bugger off, it leaves more room for the good stuff! I can't wait for the big reveal and I hope you both continue to love, support and understand each other. xxx

I love Craig's point about it being a throw away world! It's so true. If it doesn't work, toss it out and get something shiny and new. Something that seems easier and less difficult when in reality those trials and tribulations are what make you so much stronger in the end. As someone who hopes to stay married to my love forever it was also really great to see someone my age getting counseling and laying out an honest testimonial about their relationship. You guys are awesome for sharing vulnerable feelings. Sometimes it really does feel like everyone online is perfect. Even when you KNOW that no one is. It takes a lot of guts to talk about it. Custard is looking FAB just like you two! Can't wait for whats to come.

Guys, I don't blame you at all for taking a break. I've been there after far less taxing periods in my own life and I've burnt out in the past (long time sufferer of anxiety/depression etc etc).
I honestly can't believe that you managed to do so much in such a short amount of time, that shit would break ANYONE!
Keep it real from here on out. Some things aren't worth doing if they destroy you, so take your own damn time and do it because you LOVE it, not because you have to.

Took me ages to finally get help. Best thing I have ever done, really was like night and day the difference. Thanks for openly talking about it. I hope more people start, I do all the time, but so many people believe it is something that you should not talk about. Like it is something horrible to admit you have a problem of some sort, because your the ONLY one in the world with problems! Everyone needs a counselor!!
So proud and encouraged by you both, tough being together 24/7 with work, live and as a couple , I have been blessed to be wit( my best friend for 40 years now and it’s not easy ! You guys are so real. Social media is so hard, you always pressure yourself and your partner more than is healthy. That can really take the heat out of the relationship. How you spoke about how custard and your relationship are similar was put so beautifully. It's so important to speak about problems and mental health.. without doing it, everyone feels alone in their own head, but I don't think I know a single person who doesn't have any mental health issues.
When I saw you in Bali (I am vegan babe), I really didn't know whether to approach you or not.. but to be honest, I'd rather meet and hang out with you two than just about any celebrity.
Just reading through these comments has put such a smile on my face.. people (including me) get so much from watching you two, you're such gorgeous souls.

I think people would be surprised at how many others feel exactly the same way but are afraid to speak up or ask for help. we want to raise this awareness by being brave together and speaking about it.

I tried for years with my now ex husband.. He refused until it was to late.. But now I know (Form all the councilors and therapists) he is a narssistical gas-lighter.. So as 2 marriage counselors and 3 therapists have told me, he will never change... And since separation and still going through a bad divorce, I am still in therapy trying to undo the affects of years of abuse...
So well done... You guys are great for recognizing the problem and doing something about it! 🤗
Marriage is hard ..... and your comments on Flying the Nest about how much effort you put into your channel and have not had the views you’d hoped for intrigued me. Good channels and good people do not always get the attention they deserve. Glad you did not throw your relationship away as you seem perfect for each other. Not necessarily perfect as no one is, but perfect for one another. Answering Amy .... I followed my dream and became a teacher. Not an easy journey in your 40’s, but I did it! I have CF so with Covid I was forced to retire and absolutely was not ready. I love doing things with our grandkids and travelling but that too is on hold. It has been a rough year of adjusting to being with one another full time. My husband is not one who would ever consider counselling and hiding his sorrow with rye makes things worse..... good for you two for swallowing your pride and getting help together. But I will save it for another time, as it’s just my own life travel experiences without the added pressure of your filming it. But this is your moment and all I can say is, I am so proud of you. Integrity is the key. I've worked with addicts and mental health off and on for 40 years. I continue to ask for help from my mentors when needed. Many years ago a very wise person said to me. You can't give away something that you haven't got. It's ok to ask for help. 🙏
Myself and my other half of 13 years Katrina really needed to see this 🙂 things get tough sometimes and we’ve forgotten to make each a priority for a while now. We’re fighting hard and determined not to give up on each other and this video was just what we needed to see. Thank you 😊
I have just recently joined your channel. Absolutely amazing. But I just want to comment on Aimee's note. I have read the secret. But lately I have lost a lot of hope in life as everything feels like falling apart right now. I'm having constant anxiety attacks and depression. But yes everyone should look on the brighter side and then you will see the brighter side soon.

😭😭😭 wow! I just did a quick introspection and uhm I’ve been telling myself that I need to o for counseling but I’ve never prioritized it. When I saw this I’ve shifted my priorities and it’s on top of my list because we have so much going on our lives, dealing with new challenges as we grow and shift to new spaces, it can be overwhelming. Childhood traumas and so many unanswered questions are also an add on, so one can easily burn out and crash into a depression state. It’s so important to normalize counseling and because just like general education, it’s important to educate ourselves about who we are and who we are becoming as we evolve.

Nothing in the world should come before ourselves or our happiness. I'm glad you're going to put yourself first! Everyone should but we fall into bad habits and put things off.. it's understandable, we all do it!
Just think of how much better you'll feel, how much happy you'll be and how much for good energy you could put into the things you do in your life like work for example.

Like any job one has to take time off. In addition, people tend to mature into relationships/job/life as they get older, sometimes that can be difficult when juggling everything. Good for the two of you recognizing the need for outside help and, it seems, going into it with eyes and ears open to support each other without losing yourselves. How you put your lives out there for all to see, I cannot imagine!

We couldn't agree more with your purpose here on Social Media. We started UA-cam wanting to spread reality and show that #couplegoals doesn't exist. We are all normal human beings. We all have feeling, emotions and that's exactly why we all get hurt and working with social media can make it extremely hard, as you are tying to be the "best version of yourself", also you don't want to "lie" to your audience when you got a bad day. It is hard to get this fine line between authenticity and still not showing your whole detailed personal life out there.
Love your guys's authenticity so much and hope we will meet up in the Van life europe this summer. :)

And this is why I've started a 2 year counselling course as I've seen how it's helped my family and I now want to pay it forward. Even if I never make a bean from it and all I do is volunteer work then I happy as a bee. I start my first placement in a few weeks time at a local charity offering counselling for 13 to 25 year old. So if you are ever in the area and fancy a cuppa please call in. We will be more than happy to show you around the charity and counselling rooms. Hopefully it will help raise our profile a bit so we can access more funding as the demand always out ways what we can offer. We are not far from you and I'm sure we can always find room for custard. xx

I love you guys SO MUCH! When I saw a therapist/counselor for the first time in 2019 one of the first things I said to my husband was "EVERYONE NEEDS TO SEE A COUNSELOR" it's seriously SO wonderful. And no matter who you are, you can benefit from one. I'm so happy you guys are back because your videos bring me so much joy, but at the same time I don't want you to do it at the expense of your own mental health and relationship! Couples counseling was one of the most eye-opening experiences Ken and I had, and it saved our relationship. I can’t imagine the stress of working together and being together 24/7 in a van. A week or two in our motor home was pushing it, for us, and we didn’t work together. You guys are such a great example.

Found you guys after falling in love with Iceland last August. Since those first Icelandic tour views, I have watched much more. Always very fun, informational and entertaining. But in an era of glossy, photo corrected, phony social media posting, your most appealing contribution may be your genuine nature. Your ability to face your demons right in front of us (your friends), in the hopes that we can relate. Believe me, we can totally relate. When Aimee posts about dealing with her anxiety, I can TOTALLY relate.Watching Craig totally break down when Fferanda finally gave out so near the end of the Rally, TOTALLY relate. And as a couple that have both moved on from two divorces late in life, to find each other and start over, TOTALLY relate to constantly learning to communicate and make sure the relationship takes priority over the other things. Really appreciated this video. Watched your videos for years and planned my whole year away with my boyfriend at the time. Our relationship ended just weeks before we were supposed to leave and I admit I couldn’t watch your videos for many months because seeing the ‘couple goals’ version of travelling was just too painful. However, when I messaged you guys you replied and I went on my own trip and ended up having the best year of my life. I can now appreciate that there are highs and lows of travelling and of life whether you’re alone or in a relationship and just love your videos for the real content and your individual personalities. Had a rough last year, last September I had a major seizure, dislocated my shoulder in process 🤦🏼♀️ I am self employed doing a physical job, so no work for ages, then my precious Mum died in October so spent lots of time organising her funeral for end of November. Watching your channel has really cheered me up and inspired me , so Thankyou. Understandably my mental health has not been great, but people talking about it and taking stigma away really does all help. Take care guys I look forward to watching what you get up to in 2020!
