  • Hello ladies! People often struggle to see the difference between gamine and ingenue features. This is because many faces that have one tend to have the other, but this isn't always the case and there is a difference between them and their lines.

I think I’m strangely mixed with Gamine and Ingenue. People have told me I have a baby face and are shocked at my age, and yet my sister always thought I looked like a fairy. My clothing choices have always steered towards the frilly Ingenue style.

I'm exactly the same! I have a very pointy nose, but the rest of my face is quite soft and little. I've been called a pixie face, but I also look much younger than my age and people are always shocked when they discover how old I am. My body type is a little more classic though, so I tend to wear a combination of soft classic/gamine styles and that works really well on me - too many frills and patterns and I get lost, too much structure and I get lost as well.

@@zoejune9360 Me too! Almost all my features seem to have a mix of both, like how my eyes are big and very round but they come to a very sharp point at the tear duct.
Finding a style for this mixed essence is hard, but like you I also find myself gravitating towards classic and vintage styles, anywhere from 1920s-1950s. Strangely I don't feel myself in most clothing dated after the 1950s, except for bright denim shorts and compact fitted tops! Usually I find that the best combination for me is a gamine silhouette with ingenue details. Like a compact, boyish top with lace trim

i think the main thing i’ve taken away from ingenue essence is embracing details with some femininity ! it doesn’t mean i have to wear fussy clothes but i like to knit and it would translate to choosing patterns with more lace or flower like motifs or lighter weight yarn… i think the feeling of looking like i’m wearing a costume is a definite fear but it’s just about not going for all the recommendations at one time…

my biggest and most persistent insecurity is looking like a boy. i was definitely the “you look just like your father” daughter. I spent my teen years begging people to validate me and tell me that i looked girly and feminine. so realizing that my dominant essence is gamine is… well, let’s just say character development 😅. i know hating your essence is pointless, but i can’t help but want to cry about it 🙃.

(: but the soft/drapey knits of a cardigan tend to be much more flattering i’ve noticed (for me personally, having them a bit off the shoulders or at the tips of my shoulders is the most flattering, but that’s probably because i’m a soft natural body type) a lot of mainstream trends are popularized by supermodels or influencers who have very straight and sharp/dramatic bodies, so i’ve noticed they don’t suit me and my softer shapes most of the time.

Ex) Inguenue- People tend to "baby" you or treat you innocently

Natural- People find you very approachable and friendly

I have a high forehead, with large eyes and soft (but blunt) features. I often am told I look younger than I am. However, with ingenue, I have to be careful how much "cute" I add, as some prints that are too small actually make me look a bit bigger with my broad frame if the cut isn't right. Does Marylin have ingenue face? I always thought she looks her age or even slightly older. E.g. Rihanna has ingenue face, and so does Tzuyu from Twice, and Zendeya - they're all dramatics but their face confuses people to think they are a 'yin' type.
Marylin for sure has delicate features - I think she has a romantic face - just like how Beyoncé has a romantic face. They have feminine faces but not baby faces. I think 'pixie' face incorporates features you can see on a little boy/girl e.g. Ariel from Little Mermaid - if you take off her makeup and cut her hair short- she looks like a little boy/girl. But if you do the same to a romantic face e.g. Belle, she still looks like a woman with no makeup and short hair.

I would like to ask you to make a video of how to give flirty vibe with your bode kibbe type and face essence. For women with petite soft classic body and face type kind of naive it’s difficult to look seductive. And of course we can be attractive with our natural looks we got, but sometimes we want to give other messages and control our impression. 🙂🙏🏻

ever since i started learning about body types and essences ive felt conflicted, because i definitely have a dramatic body type- tall, broad shoulders, skinny, etc. but my face is this sweet, girlish ingenue essence, and watching this video helped heaps bc it made me realise that i can be BOTH- my colour palette is a bright winter but because of my essence i can pull off light pink or blue, and even though im a dramatic, just like taylor swift i can still pull off the girly dresses and bows. I think its because of my essence that i cant pull off oversized blazers, even though im a dramatic, but a long coat works so well for the sharp lines. THANK YOU for these videos, they have helped me discover so much more about myself and my personal style!!

My face is definitely ingenue, maybe with some gamine qualities (high noticeable cheekbones, small mouth, small forehead) but there are no edges, everything is very smoothed out. But my body is more gamine and I've found that I look silly in ingenue clothes, yet very good in gamine clothes. It is very confusing. I think I have both essences. People have stated that I look young and doll-like, teenager-like (at 29, i still get ID'd). I'm not super tiny though, which I think is a proportion of classic essence shining through as well.

It also explains why I get “fairy”, Bond Villain, and “the best friend with a bit of a past” as my “vibes” when I ask people.

Wow that's so cool. It's awesome that you know so much about your essence and type, and even more awesome that your friends are open to it and have such cool descriptions of you! Like seriously those are such dreamy ways of being described! If I asked my friends to describe how I look they would go "why? Is this because you're feeling insecure? Because you have abaolutely nothing to worry about, you look fine! Now let's go grab dinner before it gets any colder outside!" 😆 ugh the plights of being the only one of your female friends who doesn't have a natural way with fashion and who doesn't just instinctually know how to pick out clothes that look good on their body. That's why I'm trying to learn more here, my friends all just naturally click when it comes to styling themselves and others, as well as putting together outfits that match well, so they would think I was being silly for spending so much time trying to understand as much as I possibly can of all of this theory. But that's just it, they wouldn't get it because they just subconsciously know how to optimise their looks and make themselves striking even in casual errand clothes. I, on the other hand, still end up looking like a dork even when I'm trying my hardest to look my best. 😂 I get that they're biologically better looking than me, but come on now, there *has* to be SOME way in which I can scrub up nicely, or scrub up alright at least...🤔🤣😅

    • @sarahnelson8836
      @sarahnelson8836 Рік тому +1

@@MM-wr4ok thank you! It has taken a while and sometimes I still have doubts- my color season is a whole mess 😅 but actually they weren’t all my friends - I got Bond villain from an acquaintance/mild competitor 🤷🏼‍♀️ it’s a process and for me it’s fun - I usually just walk away when I feel like I *have* to figure it out because it’s not likely to work when I’m so intense about it anyway.
Also you don’t have to be good at “feminine things” to find your style -how you come off to people is a mix of so many things what you wear is only part of it. And celebrities have A LOT of help. It’s like Helena Bonham-carter says everything you do and are is art. Finding yourself is more important than any fashion rules for communicating what you want to the world
Also because I want the best for people and you seem like you might be over comparing yourself to others I’d like to add that if you feel like your friends are judging you about your interests and creating an environment of constant comparison for you it might be worth looking at how healthy these people are for you. I mean I don’t know you but I truly believe there are friend groups out there for everyone (sometimes the right fit even changes) and we all deserve love and support from those around us.

I watched this whilst looking in the mirror. Face wise I definitely see ingenue and romantic. The combination of gamine , ingenue and romantic you mentioned really described me, in that my ingenue and romantic essences really reduce my gamine essence and so i give off a similar vibe to Marilyn monroe , soft ,cute and sensual. When i smile, i dont look "impish" or "cheeky" i look more doll like and sweet. I'm SG and the only gamine element I see in my face is high , prominent cheekbones, but there also very rounded and my short , narrow nose bridge. This has made me less sure of my gamine essence. I think I have mostly romantic around 50%, ingenue 30%, with gamine at 20% body wise I do see all three, ingenue, gamine and romantic but gamine essences are higher in my body than my face. I have done an essence test and it came up with romantic being my dominant essence secondly ingenue thirdly gamine with a small hint of dramatic.

I find it difficult sometimes when just looking at the face and essences to tell what is gamine and what is dramatic if we're looking at faces and essences. I know you explained it lol but it still confuses me because my thinking is gamines are small dramatics in a way. Its their shortness and small statutes that give off that contrast? So when looking at essences with gamines i get confused. What would be a great example of a gamine with mostly dramatic essence that may clear it up for me? Or is Susan Sarandon the best example?

Hi Ellie-Jean, love your videos. I’m a little confused here. Kibbe’s theory places gamine after classic and next to romantic in terms of movement from yang to yin ie more yin overall, and here I see John Kitchener has placed it after natural and before classic ie more yang overall. I’ve noticed you mentioning in a few videos that gamines have more yang than yin features too and while I see this certainly tallies with John Kitchener’s essences’ theory, it doesn’t fit with Kibbes. Sincerely confused from a (self diagnosed) soft gamine who doesn’t know her essences. ❤
