    I have a Power Smart DB7659h-22 2 stage and it cuts through ice and wet snow like a warm knife to butter. We bought it for $349 on the spot online and it was shipped in 2 weeks. We are very happy with the purchase! Money well spent.

    I had a chance today in Wauconda Illinois to try out my PowerSmart DB7001, got it from Sears for 240$ something delivered. I had talked about it in another video 208cc LCT. Threw one of those gas valves on it you talked about to turn off the gas at the end of day. We had about 5 inches of semi wet snow not super heavy but it was not fluff. Almost threw it into the next doors driveway 25 feet away. It ripped threw the end on the driveway snow the plows leave behind. Asked my wife to try it and she does not like powered equipment but she did try it and said it was super easy, "All I need is someone to start it"... I heard allot of negative comments about the brand but so far so good. Engine started in two pulls might have been one if I had had the choke set right.
    We have a home center called HOBO, it's really good for all sorts of tile and others. They had a 12 amp battery Joe something snow blower for 99$, being a geek I was really temped but I have two gas powered right now so I resisted the temptation. I'll have to see how yours preforms this year. If it works well I'll let my daughter Craigslist the two gas and go for the electric next year.

      The DB7001 is a single stage. If it could throw the snow 25', I'm really excited to see how mine will work. In the past, I put both a Honda 5.5 and a Predator 7 HP on craftsman snowblowers and both those machines preformed way better than the Tecumseh Snow King 5HP. The battery powered snowblowers look to be pretty nice, but I doubt they can compete with this one in a heavy snow. I'm going to try it out, so I will let you know.

    I have a relatively similar model, only mine has electric start. Going into its 4th season. Had to replace the transmission cable the second season, and going into this season I had to rebuild the carburetor. Cable was covered under warranty, but the carburetor rebuild was not. Replaced the auger belt just recently. All in all, I have not been real happy with the performance of my powersmart snowblower. Since the rebuild of the carburetor, it has run better than when it was new. And it does move the snow very well now that I have all the bugs worked out of the it. Good, informative review. Thanks.

    Very good video on the newer model DB7659H with the 212cc Loncin engine, I have the older model DB7659 with the 208cc LCT engine. It works very well too, same one to two pulls to start, but also the older model has the electric start feature. Like many others that have the older version, it came from the factory with the pulley misalignment problem but easy fix if you follow the other youtube video about it. Looking forward to seeing your future video of this DB7659H in action.

    • @doublewide6

      Thanks for your comment. Please subscribe, so you don't miss the in action video. The LCT 208 is an excellent engine. I know Ariens uses it. I believe that Powersmart sells snowblowers without the electric start for 2 reasons, to reduce costs, and because the Chinese engines fire up right away with the primer and choke. The belt alignment problem on the older units is an easy fix, so that is very good news for anyone having that problem. As I showed in the video the newer units have the belts aligned very straight. With a 22" cut and 7HP engine this unit is going to preform well. I am finding that narrower snowblowers are less work on your body especially in deep snow. I have shoulder and back problems and using a lighter unit is the way to go, at least for me. Nice chatting. Bob

      I have the same model as you with the same misalignment issue and it keeps ripping through my belts, can you send me the link to the video or upload a picture with imgur so I can see where the washers are? I've burned through like four to five belts It only lasts one or two snow storms before the belt rips

    Looks like an old Murray/Craftsman from the 90's. I'm sure it'll do the job. For the price, it's hard to beat.

    • @doublewide6
      @doublewide6  7 років тому

      It is kind of like the Murray/Craftsman especially the chute. The Murray/Craftsman have the crank chute rotation and I see those plastic parts broken all the time. This one you have to manually move the chute, but it will probably hold up fine because it has less moving parts.

  • @MrDeadInMyPocket
    @MrDeadInMyPocket 7 років тому

    I bought this same unit last year, it had the pulley misalignment problem. Posted a video about how to fix it. Very simple.
    Symptoms of that problem.
    Blower stops throwing snow and clogs really easy.
    You smell rubber burning (That would be the belt burning from friction on the edge of a pulley)
    Black residue inside belt housing. (Burned up belt crap)
    Also, the belt might keep slipping off or break.
    (Note here. You can avoid this problem by taking off the belt housing and checking if all three pulleys align before you run it. It's only two screws. Which I will now be doing forevermore when I buy anything with belts)
    After I used the 1/4 inch spacer to re-align the pulleys and put on a new belt it works like a champ. My front walk gets snow drifts, usually around three feet or more, this goes through without a problem. I think because it's only 22" wide with a 6.5hp engine it doesn't get bogged down easily. I have to do two rows to get it as wide as I like but that's okay because I wanted the blower to have a small footprint for storage in the shed.
    Thanks for the overview. There are some differences on your unit, on mine the tension pulley for the drive is metal not plastic. As you can see in my video. Other than that it looks to be mostly cosmetic. Oh yeah, and my unit only had a little grease in the auger gear box when I got it. Had to add oil.

    • @doublewide6
      @doublewide6  7 років тому

      I saw your video it was very helpful to me because I read several reviews about belt problems, but by seeing your video I could clearly see what the problem was. As I stated in the video this problem has been addressed with this years model. If you look at the comments below you will see a link to your video. Thanks

      That was my thought last year when I tried to find info online about this. I found some mentions about the same issue on message boards but nothing visual like pictures, so I thought I'd throw something up. I like visual guides too. I figured it might help one or two other people. Which doesn't seem like much, unless you're the one with the problem then it's a life saver.
      I watched a few of your videos. Very helpful to a lot of people. You should be proud.
      EDIT. One other thing I noticed they changed, which was really needed. The cables on yours have a turnbuckle slack adjuster system, that's much better. The older ones like mine have this plate hook adjuster system that's really hard to work with. What that tells me is that Amerisun is listening to their customers and making improvements.
      BTW something I didn't say on my video is that Amerisun customer service was really great when I called last year. Very responsive with my problem. Sent me a new belt too. Even though I bought one already, he said "Keep it as a spare!". Which was cool.

    • @doublewide6
      @doublewide6  7 років тому

      Thank you for admiring my channel. I take a lot of pride in the fact that I can help some average Joe's. I believe that Amerisun is listening to their customers. They switched engines from LCT to the better preforming Loncin, they corrected the belt and pulley issue, and that is a good point about the cable plate being updated. I really have a feeling that my snowblower is going to preform well with the large engine and narrow width. Stay tuned for my test in the snow.

    Hi..A very thorough review, but the thing I noticed was that I didn't see any lube or grease on the axle drive shaft. I found that rust can develop on the shaft causing shifting to become difficult. As a preventative measure I put some lithium grease on the shaft. Great video.

    Hey the snow started coming down during the video. We have had snow on the ground for 4 weeks up here in Western Canada
    Good review. Yes everything is made in china. I just put one together one that is a bit bigger than that but the similarities are there. I still don't like the tight cables to control vs the older rods from the control sticks.

    • @doublewide6
      @doublewide6  7 років тому

      No snow here yet, but it is getting close now. The control rods on the older ones are very solid. My old Exmark walkbehind mower had solid rods. It got hit by a zero turn on the trailer and the rod got bent. Trying to adjust the bent rod and keep the wheels from turning when in neutral was near impossible. If I had my choice I would go with the solid rods. The rods are built to last the life of the machine.

    • @BrucesShop

      Yes I have a 1974 Ariens with the control rods. (sold by john Deere) It is getting long in the tooth though. Tecumseh 8HP with points. No electric start. Those old flatheads are hard to pull now that I am 60. You do great videos!!

    Reminds me of those Chinese "sport" bikes on Amazon, runs great out of the box...but what about in 3+ years, or in more challenging conditions, and what about spare parts or customer service? Oh, and don't buy from a "big box" store. If you can go to a dealer you trust...

  • @Goomer
    @Goomer 7 років тому

    Just started my 1970 Ariens snowblower today, supposed to get some white stuff tomorrow. That machines looks like it will work, but won't last like my Ariens.

    • @doublewide6
      @doublewide6  7 років тому

      The old Ariens are thick metal I will give you that. However, they don't throw the snow as far as any of the newer snowblowers because the gearing of the impeller allows the impeller to spin much faster in newer machines. If you take care of your machine it will last, and so will this one. It also makes a big difference if you let employees run your equipment. I doubt employees are going to run the equipment as nicely as the guy that bought it.

    • @doublewide6
      @doublewide6  7 років тому

      The older stuff without a doubt is built thicker and stronger. But you need to have the know how to get it running and keep it running. The gear ratio on the impeller is slower on older units compared to new units. New units are geared up to throw the snow farther. Thanks for commenting.

  • @billkrause4585
    @billkrause4585 3 роки тому

    Are the internal gears (the Cam gear and the timing gear) made of plastic, that would be an interesting thing to know. Does it come with a manual that includes a parts listing for ordering parts?. I thing for $499 I seen a 26" Powersmart with cable control shut, an operator panel with the three levers, a switch for the Headlamp and the primer bulb. They do shoot out the snow at a far distance. The gear box come with no lubricant, the wheel axles need to be lubricated with maybe some anti-seize grease, you have to put oil in the crankcase due to shipping, For me, I would snap out one side of each bearing and pack them with maybe low temperature grease. Yeah, there's some videos out there on, "How to make your snow-blower last longer." Yeah, maintain it well and have fun..

    Good video. It would cost more than that to fix an Ariens snow blower. I fix lots of small engines and the Chinese seem to be good for some reason. Some of the Briggs have plastic cams and gears that are failing. Thanks for the video's.

      Stephen,
      Small engine repair is not cheap. Neither are the replacement parts. I have put Chinese replacement engines on snowblowers and was very impressed with the power and torque. The ones I dealt with ran smooth and strong. However, I ended up selling them and never heard back on how they are holding up. My generator has a Chinese motor, and I have not had any issues with it for several years. Also it starts easily.

    Finally I bought one these here in Ottawa, Canada. I've used it couple of times so far and I'm quite happy with it, and the price is great. As I don't have a pick-up truck, I plan to put it in the Drive gear and drive it to my son's place couple of times this winter, during heavy snowfalls only, to blow snow in his single driveway which is about 500 meters from my place (back and forth is 1,000 meters). Your advice on any potential adverse effects on the snow blower's engine, friction disk and belts etc because of this would be appreciated. Pete, I did a lot of research on the Loncin engine. Some things to note: Cast iron sleeve, forged crankshaft, Low oil automatic shut down, and metal cams. Also uses a transister ignition device which aids in less fuel consumption and more precise timing. Parts are harder to get than standard, Honda, Briggs, or Tecumseh, but are available through Powersmart or Toro dealers. That being said, this is my first Loncin engine that I own, so I do not have any evidence of how well it will hold up over time. I will say I don't think the big manufactures would go with engines that are going to cause recalls or major returns. Thanks for your comments. Bob

      Bob fair play , As you say if they are a main line supplier hopefully they will have a parts back up. Its a nice a touch to have a steel liner in the bore . Believe me not knocking it but even Briggs build a lot of motors in China now . In the day in the Uk we had Villiers engines gone to the wall now , but they where well made .

    Looks like a fairly decent machine for the money. If it lasts, maybe the Chinese are poised to take the path the Japanese did back in the mid-seventies.

      I thought it looked pretty decent too. I'm looking forward to seeing it in action.

    Just don't like the cable set up for the shifting. I'd rather see just a lever on there.

    Damn cheap ass lawn mower handle ... LMFAO ...

      I'm used to seeing the press down handles, but this is a new design for me. It works well for lawnmowers, and it appears to be easy to grip with gloves on a snowblower. I am going to try the handle out when I test the machine in the snow and I will let you know what I think of them.
