Thank you! Glad you liked it. Stay tuned, I'm going out this week to film one more. Going to see how many times I can hit a 10" plate at 1000 yards now that I know what factory ammo mine likes.
Nice! That's a long barrel. I have a new video coming out this morning. I adjusted the set screws on the stock and added a suppressor. Shit all the brands of ammo I have. Results are different from parts 1 and 2
Another great video, but as I stated prior, especially when shooting out further than 200 yards and grouping you really need a sturdier platform to shoot from. You could probably have achieved better grouping if you were in the prone and used a good quality sand bag gun rest. Also you really need to let the barrel cool in order to achieve more accurate results.
I'm using the same rifle in 223 and I had a 4" group with the Superformance at 100yds. I've never had good luck with it in any caliber. 5/8" group with Fiocchi.
This data is very helpful, thanks for spending the time and $ to go through it with us. However, what i really want to know is how this holds true once I put a can on the end of it. I’ve got a Huxwrx Ventum I would want to thread on it and wonder if the ammo performs similarly or if a new series is warranted on your part? Lol
I actually just got a silencerco omega 300 and just from my first use it seems like the ammo performs differently. I also adjusted the stock tension as someone else suggested. Tightened the stock to the action to 70 in/lb. Both could play a part in it's accuracy. I may do a single video with the can on and every single ammo I have at 100 yards.
Very possible. I ran more tests after this video with similar results on all ammo. Ended up choosing the federal law enforcement tactical tipped matchking 168g as the best round for my rifle. Shoots sub moa at 100 and 300 yards consistently with it.
Adding to some previous positive suggestions: big guys feel recoil effects more, it’s just physics. To reduce flinching, try a bit of shoulder padding, even a hand towel over the shoulder can be used in a pinch.
I also have some Armscor .308 HPBT 168 gr. It works well in my AR-10, even getting on the crosshairs I aim at. It has similar performance to Federal Fusion 165 grain.
I just got my wife the gen 2 in 6.5 cm and i cant believe the groups we where shooting striaght out of the box at 100 yards we with a hrnady match load we where shooting less than 1/2 inch 3 shot groups 5 times in a row with us taking turns on the rifle
The increased velocity means the bullet is leaving the barrel at a lower angle in the recoil arc, so you are actually hitting lower and not higher. Dave & The Girls
I have a really hard time with this. I know I should be doing it, but I think I am so focused on breathing and holding steady I just forget about it. I will work harder on this.
I've been in the outdoor industry for over 25 years working for two different major firearms manufacturers and ammunition manufacturers I have yet to see any rifle shoot superformance with any type of consistency😂
I have moved to bipod and rear bag set up since this video. Because you are correct. Some ammo still had the same results some had slightly better. I ended up choosing federal premium law enforcement tactical tipped matchking 168 grain ammo.
I found those to not work as good in my gun. My part 1 has those group not as well as others. They were excluded from the 300 yard test for this reason.
@@BaldGuysWithGuns thanks for the reply. I've watched all your videos on the .308 and would like to offer some advice. Shooting 5 shot groups is fine if it's your preference. But don't be so hard on your shooting abilities and don't fall in the trap of picking the best 3 because you probably pulled 2 out of 5. Your subconscious is saying your going to pull 2 shots every time when it could be the ammo or barrel getting hot. I think your groups would improve greatly with a more stable rest and believing in your equipments abilities, believing in your abilities will come with the results. Oh and luck at the group you shot with the Federal Gold medal match, it's not the tightest 3 out of 5, but there is no fliers several inches away. Good luck
I believe hes compensating for some of the rounds and its not getting an accurate group. Hold center for random ammo and keep center. Some group better but also twist rate and length mix with weights also. Math it all together.
I would never test ammo off a flimsy bench and sled. Need a solid surface and some bags. Too much room for error and human input with that kind of set up. I dont want to know how well i personally can shoot. I want to know how well my gun can shoot
I agree with your statement, but I use what I have and can afford. Unfortunately we are not UA-cam stars yet, so money is tight. But in my part 4 video I was able to upgrade to a lead sled. That did help a lot. Also consider how many people might only be able to afford the same things? I'd bet a majority of people use their money to have the gun and be in my same situation. Real world, this is probably an accurate representation of most who watch this video. Just a thought, but I agree with you, I would like a more stable set up.
@BaldGuysWithGuns fair enough, I think you were able to still get an idea of what shoots still. Hope you get those views and make some money for the channel! We have homemade wooden benches that worked pretty well. I will say that a good sandbag is worth the money though, I got an armageddon gear that changed my mind on bags
Don't worry the barrel never got too hot. If I couldn't grab it I waited. Keep in mind 1, the video is edited, so there are cuts where I wasn't shooting which would have been boring to watch and 2, F class shooters will shoot 20+ shots in a row before a break. Barrels can take quite a bit before they get too hot. Maybe not a cheaper barrel such as the ruger, but it is hammer forged steel like most barrels. Either way I did allow it to cool when needed.
@BaldGuysWithGuns Just out of curiosity…. I know heat affects EVERY barrel, regardless of metal material or twist rate or brand etc etc etc…. But my curiosity is this… does this particular Ruger Gen 2 seem MORE susceptible to heat issues in the barrel? I’ve not shot one yet… but just looking at them in person, those flutes in the barrel seem almost like they are a good bit too deeply cut. Have you noticed that these barrels get hotter quicker than say the original Ruger Americans? Or does it just seem to heat up at about the same rate as any typical barrel?
@@BaldGuysWithGuns right on. Does it seem to heat up quicker though? That’s what I’m curious about. I ask because I’ve heard some say that they can’t even get through a five shot group properly because the first three are good and then the fourth and fifth are flyers “because it’s already too hot”…. I don’t know that I buy that, but that’s why I’m asking
I have shot several 5 shot groups without issue. Now that I have found the correct ammo I have several 5 shot groups through it getting groups ranging between .5" to .9": I'd say it is a 3/4 minute gun.
To clarify the superformance is not only faster but I believe it's too fast for this particular rifle/barrel. If the powder charge is too high for a rifle, it can cause the bullet to fly irratically and that is what I believe was happening here. Every other ammo tested hit on paper at 300 except the superformance. I've settled on Sierra matchkings and they group sub moa at both 100 and 300 yards.
I say it both ways cuz I've heard it both ways and wasn't sure which it was. I've since been told a few times the correct way. It will be said correctly from this point forward.

def nice to see what you are using helps narrow stuff down for the rest of us! appreciate you sharing!
Glad it was helpful. That was the goal
Great stuff man, thanks for taking the time to do this!
Thanks for the info ! 👍 I'm thinking of getting a Gen2 308 .
Nice video series on my favorite caliber thank you for your efforts in making cool videos 👍🏻👍🏻💯
Stay tuned I'm taking this ruger out to see how many times I can hit a 10" target with 20 rounds at 1000 yards!
Need to go to nosler ammo...ive had alot of issues with Hornaday i shoot nosler Ballistic tips in all my rifles with really good performance
The bthp hornady seemed to do pretty well, but yes there are more ammo brands I haven't tried. Nosler is one I wasn't able to get locally.
Show me any shooting related product that has the name "Hornaday" on it.
Great series! I might have to pick one up! Still working on a load for my 16” proof research AR 10
Thank you! Glad you liked it. Stay tuned, I'm going out this week to film one more. Going to see how many times I can hit a 10" plate at 1000 yards now that I know what factory ammo mine likes.
Good video , I plan on doing the same thing, just got a remington 700 sendero 308 with 26 " barrel.
Nice! That's a long barrel. I have a new video coming out this morning. I adjusted the set screws on the stock and added a suppressor. Shit all the brands of ammo I have. Results are different from parts 1 and 2
Matter of fact you just earned my sub ! 👍🏻👍🏻💪🏻💯
Thanks so much for the sub! We hope you enjoy the content. Keep those comments coming.

Didn't try that one

Keep slinging the great vidjos.
Thanks for the comment and support! We’ll keep this up. We have a fun series coming up in the next couple weeks too!
Think your fore-end was touching the barrel as the barrel heated up the polymer.

It definitely surprised me.
i have a box of the hornady match .308 168gr o try on sunday. mine didnt really like the remington. def liked the federal gold match sierra tip 168gr
I just got my wife the gen 2 in 6.5 cm and i cant believe the groups we where shooting striaght out of the box at 100 yards we with a hrnady match load we where shooting less than 1/2 inch 3 shot groups 5 times in a row with us taking turns on the rifle
I have mine dialed in about the same now. My screws holding the action to the stock were not set right and I added a suppressor. Groups real nice now.
The increased velocity means the bullet is leaving the barrel at a lower angle in the recoil arc, so you are actually hitting lower and not higher. Dave & The Girls
Dude that gun sled is making me crazy can't shoot like that no
I've ditched it.
Is that the factory mag, what's your capacity?
It is not. The factory mag is 3 rounds. I purchased a ruger made 5 round mag.
Can you put the link of where and what exact mag you purchased?
Don't want to get in trouble by the tube. The mag shack search ruger ai style mag they have ruger made 3, 5, and 10 round mags
Need a better platform and three shot groups, barrel obviously hot......
Barrel getting hot
It could have, but I did take breaks. Every 10 shots I had to go out to 300 and replace targets. It took a while and the gun sat in the shade.
Should have tried Hornaday Black 168gr
I ended up going with federal premium law enforcement tactical tipped match king 168g. Check out our ruger american gen 2, 1 moa at 1000 yards video
You should hold back your trigger after release, it is a better shooting form and can promote better trigger control.
It definitely seems to be very inconsistent.
I think some of your issues might be your sled. It is flexing quite a bit when you shoot.
I have moved to bipod and rear bag set up since this video. Because you are correct. Some ammo still had the same results some had slightly better. I ended up choosing federal premium law enforcement tactical tipped matchking 168 grain ammo.
Are you letting rhe barrel cool between groups?
Probably not enough. I had to travel 300 yards to swap targets every 10 shots. So it cooled more sometimes, but less other times.
You need a better rest and a chrono to check velocity.
Yes we agree. And we have now bought and upgraded both. Thanks for pointing that out.
What magazine are you using?
Ruger ai style magazine
Federal Gold Medal Match 168gr and 175gr are normally the most accurate in .308
I found those to not work as good in my gun. My part 1 has those group not as well as others. They were excluded from the 300 yard test for this reason.

3 shots let barrel cool
In prs matches they will shoot 10+ shots before taking breaks. I don't think taking breaks every 3 shots is necessary.
If you're not letting the barrel cool between groups you are wasting your time and money

The fluted barrel cools faster because of the flutes. I don't have to wait as long for this gun to cool compared to others.

How dare you! I agree! Lol I've gotten better.

Triggered by grammar, grandpa?
Dude got so pissed off because someone used "wrong" pronunciation he quit watching. What a "righteous" and "upright" man! 😂
this was sweet!
heck yeah!
edit: quick question, do you know the weight on the trigger or is it stock for this model?
When shooting this video it was 3.5 lbs I loosened it up since but I was only able to get it down to 3lb. Supposed to get to 2.5, but maybe mine won't. 3 isn't terrible.
Harnady ammo SUCKS !!!!
I've noticed that it hasn't been great for my guns so far
