I have the J2S with AK4499 chip with Sparkos SS3602 Op amps stacked with the Geshelli A3 Pro amp. Some Op Amp magic going on with this pair. This can be an end game stack for most that punches way above its total cost. Zebra wood on both
I've been hoping you'd review this Geshelli w/4499. My next dac will be it or the Orchard Audio PecanPi+ w/4499. Probably can't go wrong with either one.
I swapped out the original power supply for an IFI xPower and within the first few seconds of listening to a song I literally laughed out loud. I could not believe the sound difference it made! So much cleaner, sounded more expansive and detailed. Definitly end game for me.
I have the original JNOG in blue, absolutely love it to death. The sheer willpower it takes to not buy the J2 socket is remarkable. Whenever I need another audio setup, my current JNOG is going there and my desk is getting whatever Geshelli has out at the time. Kinda want their headphone amp to pair with my JNOG though... hmmm
Op amps don’t provide instruction sets, they are not digital components, they amplify signal. This is a way to apply gain or buffer stage to a signal. They can be used in a digital circuit but I don’t think that is what the swappable op amps in this unit are controlling, pretty sure it is in the analog audio path.
Thanks for clarifying. What would the sound difference be between the balanced op amps TI OPA1656 x 2pcs versus the premium Burson V7 Vivid Pro x 2pcs?
i bought the original J2 un socketed with the ES9026 with the USB and wood for $360 totally AMAZING!!!!. my use case for the USB is that this is my DAC for my cubicle at work and i plug my iphone into it for streaming tidal. i love it as much as my schiit gumby.
Hey chief, can you try to get some higher end tube amplifiers in to do a head-to-head between them? I'd love to hear something from Ampsandsound, Bottlehead, Decware, etc all compared to see what you get for the money between them.
Also I'm looking at the J2 socketed as well as the Denafrips Ares 12th-1. I was already set on getting an R2R DAC, whether that be from Denafrips or Musician or Ladder. Does this still hold up to R2R tech? do you still have the Denafrips and Musician DACs around?
@@ZReviews I have never messed with this before so I was being cautious. I love the Sinxger. Have you tried any modded DT880's yet? I've got them on the Sinxger and it needs to go to 90% before noise (not static) starts. Just before that static though is this sweet spot that makes you orgasm.
Dare you to try the Semibreve DA50 that's the cheapest AK4499EX based DAC with XLR balanced output on the planet. It's also socketed, comes with OPA1612 in IV section, and MUSES8820 in LPF section standard. Also comes with an Amanero USB daughter card clone, not even sure what op amp for cans 🤣 it's all of $249USD... sorry no fancy wood case or hand widdled by some guy in his garage. Was likely put together and tested by an 11 year old kid. Take the lid off and throw it in the trash, then start rolling op amps. With all the money a person saves on this AK4499, they can get a nice LT3042 Linear Power Supply like I did for it. My only gripe is the screen doesn't hibernate so I don't want to leave it on 24/7.
I dunno. I love my Geshelli stuff, but not so sure about this new user experience trend of having to take an electronics elective just to get a nice DAC.
Ha3 continental rism.. Xduoo xd05pro has opamp rolls too plus dac rolls.. N this r over hyped by u butt.. Cuz its made in state??. F... U.. Be fair.. Gtg.. U changed my moods.. Peace!
Not exactly shocking that op amps make a difference with dacs. This was one thing I did with a fancy old school expensive dac at the time manufacturers. The distance was obvious and that was before all these socketed versions of dacs and amps. I have a collection of socketeted op amps from the usual manufavters and each one makes a difference or sounds different. Not necessary better but allows you to change things up. Z reference these stacked crazy mono versions you can get and those make a difference as well. Just a matter of what you prefer. Those of us in the day amp lots from pass labs have known about this for years with Wayne's (at pass labs ) diy whammy headphone class a amp kit. Some versions can also be used as a preamp also. Thanks !

got mine fully loaded. EPIC 🙂
How does the JS2 with Sparkos op amps compare to the Aune X8s VIII with the Sparkos?

I did the same and managed to squeeze in (3) Sparkos SS2590 op amps. If there is anything audibly "better" for under $2k, I'd like to hear it.
Love DACs. Im waiting to see the DayZee model in 2024. =)
Other DAC manufacturers should be taking notes.

I have one of those power supplies upstairs. I might give it a try. Maybe I can build a switch box.

Op amp can get hot. They do the amplification. They are voltage amplifiers really.

Yoko must be punished

Does the DAC work with headphones and nearfield only? Will it help make my cheap Sony 190 amp and Klipsch rp600m speakers sound glorious?
I want to see you do a DAC blind test shootout
Does the DAC actually make a difference? Why not just use an integrated DAC/Amp and call it a day?
why do you go with fiber optic? because of the latency benefits compared to USB?
Double Stack Burson? Do i have to be patron to find out more info?
Becomes such a conundrum. Now you need proper caps and resistors $$. Buy a bunch of Mumms!
That near field set up looks totally practical.🤥
Z, is the AQUILA III a buy or pass!?
Z, hey man, noticed you're using the Aune AR5000s, how do you like them?

They needed quite a bit of burn-in but they are so Smoooooth now.
Cold Feet Sand!😂
Just ordered the Aune X8 to go with the Singxer SA-1 and play around with Op Amps/Headers. Any tips before going in so I don't junk my Amp?
I mean the amp should be fine. The X8 with its one OpAmp is pretty standard. I just got all my oracleII opamps.

Damn. I kinda want to try this with API console opamps now. :D
Have one with Sparkos, is a bit sterile/bright, would the Burson be warmer?
V5 is nice with a bit of punch. Haven't tried the others
I'd try some of the cheap ones first. Burson SHOULD be warmer however.
Hell yeahh. Yo Z, unrelated but, have you heard the Simgot EA1000? They're nasty af
been waiting for a burson or spakos sale to get enough op amps for my DX7pro, this is tempting though.

Had to stop watching due to serious sea sickness.
buddy got naked in a pruduce dept. what a legend!

Like the build your own keyboard trend too.
Kizuna AI! Miss her so much
Topping NX3S has op amp sockets.
Get a set of staccato op-amps
I learned the hard way, [these] types of amps don't work with the wiring in my '60's' house. Best, D.
I detect a buzzy OOF
@@ZReviews Dear Z, I'm just a filthy UA-cam follower. Any way I could mail a insurable Geshelli amp to you. Best, D.
Man you live alone just saying 😂
