I cannot blame the crowd for not cheering and shouting... I myself was amazed and astonished by this pseudo-death/jazz/fusion metal band when I saw them in Istanbul several years ago. It was... so interesting that I couldn't applaud or cheer because I was in awe, my attention was captured by their sound and songs. It was a legend in flesh and bone before me...
Few good songs? That whole album is amazing! An it is a backing track from the album, the keyboardist who did the original vocals didn't want to leave for the tour.
Wow! FIrst time hearing this band and I'm floored that I've never found them before, and that's from a guy that's played in bands, loved heavy music, has old friends in very successful musical careers and liked to think I knew something about music. These guys have proved me wrong, and the "markets" for fools. I'm not a death growl fan in the least, but this works on a level I've only previously enjoyed in bands like Pain of Salvation and the original thrash band style. I'm sold after one song!!
miss seeing these guys. they played a lot of shows i went to growing up in Palm Bch county. Portal was great also check out that project they did. and yes love Aeon Spoke
WOW, this is amazing! The drum part is the coolest, their bass player rules, jaw-dropping guitar playing, and I really like the weird robot vocals! Getting this album asap.
I just don't have enough people I know who turn ME on to good music, it's either that they must be hording it or just don't know. So happy to have crossed over to Cynic from Opeth....D.T...and Gordian Knot..Jean Michelle Jarre or however it happened. Just happy to be listening!!!
as a guitar teacher I can play some MAB like no boundaries, Jason Becker and Yngwie but the rhythm and solo here is difficult. I am learning it and it really builds your respect for this innovative band. Cynic are great.
@Hellhammer498 Well this is when Cynic had first reunited, so they just had a recording of the growls being played in the background, but now Cynic found a member that can play guitar (fucking amazingly) and do the growls, his name is Tymon...I got all of their autographs back in August, they are all really cool people
@treacoffill "This band sucks" What a mature and detailed opinion you have there. On the contrary, Cynic do not suck. They are my favourate band. Paul Masivdal is a fucking beast of a guitarist and Sean Reinart is the best drummer alive in my opinion. I've listened to they're album "Focus", non-stop for a year now. Highly technical, thought-provoking, soulful, skillful, intelligent music. They may not be to your taste. But just because you don't like them doesn't make them bad.
@ChainsawVsGod Totally agree, any person who thinks Cynic "suck" just have no knowledge of real music, they certainly are one of the best metal bands around. Creative, interesting and unique. Not to mention, Seam Reinart is a beast of a drummer.
@PinkPantherPunk Dude he hasn't done the growls since their demos. The got a guy named Tony Teegarden to do the growls on Focus. This concert used recordings of Teegarden for the growls.
@Cauflores1 I believe that;s Kriss Kringle. No, he doesn't deliver toys to children around the world on christmas. lol, I swear that's his name though, he played with them on the Portal demo and he played live with them (obviously) for a while.
yeah thats true...actually i think i've seen Malone's face properly only once...i dont remember where...there are very few videos of him performing live (not counting the ones during the 90s)..
You see the issue with that is that all of the current fans would not appreciate Veil of Maya drastically changing their sound like that. I wouldn't mind hearing some singing in Veil of Maya's music, but at the same time I'm also perfectly content with their current sound. Cynic on the other hand is incredibly complex compositions with a jazzy, mysterious sound to it.
i really love this band.. the voice for the new album is very creative... the only thing i dont like is that the old songs HAS TO BE SUNG THE SAME WAY.. with growls and all that...
On the album they had a keyboardist who did the death growl vocals. He is no longer with the band, so those are just the death growls he recorded on the album.
@23igna Well, at the time they showed up, there was no growler in the band but not anymore, the new guitar player is also a growler, so the band is more complete these days when they perform live.
If you watch the video of them playing a portal song during this same festival, you'll see An Ipod hooked up next to Sean Reinert. So I'm guessing they have it hooked up to the PA and they're just playing over it.
music for the mind, not for the feet. Also the "Veil of Maya" is a philosophical concept: what we take for granted as reality, is merely a facsimile, an illusion, seen through the "veil" as if it were a pair of sunglasses. The dualistic nature of the universe. Check it out on wiki, it will be an interesting read.
@ChainsawVsGod Oh and you know Steve DiGiorgio? Also an amazing fretless bassist, I really like his jazz project Dark Hall and his band Sadus with the album Elements of Anger!
I love the expression from the crowd's guy @ 0:07 ... he feel the art
Exactly ! He want to say with his expression : I FUCKING LOVE THIS SONG !
Alejandro Quintiliani and at 4:51 he's FOCUSing
+Guilherme Motta Putin? At a concert, by band who's half gay? LOL
+Esteban Rincon Yes! :D
I cannot blame the crowd for not cheering and shouting... I myself was amazed and astonished by this pseudo-death/jazz/fusion metal band when I saw them in Istanbul several years ago. abi ne kadar şanslıymışsın cynic gibi bir grubu istanbulda izleyebildiğin için. biz de dark tranquility geliyor diye sevinelim :/
@@ataberkozcelik9328 bizi öldürmeyen acı güçlendirir ne yapacaksın :')
Cynic is one of the coolest most unique and IMHO the most underappreciated metal bands of all time. 'Veil of Maya' is an awesome song. Peace to All
R.I.P. Sean. You’ll be missed.
How did he die?
wizzy I never found out the cause of death. He could have had a disease that wasn’t kept made public.
@@evolutionarysleeper6555 Apparently it was complications from hypertension. And now both Seans have died :(
an extremely underated band!!! I traveled from Mexico to Norway just to see them...what an amazing band and people are them...
Sean looked so excited to be back at it playing these songs. I can't believe he's gone.
this is cynic, you sit back, enjoy, and soak in the music, not get crazy
I bought Focus back in 1993 when it came out. I was 15 then, and the album today still blows me away. Great album, great band.
I'll get crazy all I fucking want to
Flawless execution live. True musicianship all around.
It's great to finally have you back Cynic!
I have just discovered these guys. and they KICK ASS!!!!!
Simply sublime music.
Love this song and this concert, I downloaded it a while back. I love these guys.
Son increíbles los amo❤
One of the original Technical Metal bands. I remember when they barely hit the radar. Great band.
Few good songs? That whole album is amazing! An it is a backing track from the album, the keyboardist who did the original vocals didn't want to leave for the tour.
I am seeing them tonight!!!!!!!!!!!!
1:01 i never get over how much feelings thats put into that part, most beautifull thing i've ever heard!
Absolutely amazing stuff!
The jazz section of this song is beautiful.
This song is legendary.
Wow! FIrst time hearing this band and I'm floored that I've never found them before, and that's from a guy that's played in bands, loved heavy music, has old friends in very successful musical careers and liked to think I knew something about music. I have the promo featuring two songs, very melo and amazing! Can't wait for the whole thing!
miss seeing these guys. they played a lot of shows i went to growing up in Palm Bch county. Portal was great also check out that project they did. and yes love Aeon Spoke
Cynic. So beautifully technical
my old friend Dave on the purple guitar.....
still crankin' that death metal like always!
thanx for posting this! ;)
Never thought I'd hear this song done live. Bravo!
man i'm glad these guys got back together. first time i ever heard their album i think i was in 4th grade back in 94.
yeh i just got into them too i had always respected them as extreme talent but its just so hypnotic
i absolutley FUCKING LOVE how its both soft and relaxing but heavy at the same time
WOW, this is amazing! The drum part is the coolest, their bass player rules, jaw-dropping guitar playing, and I really like the weird robot vocals! Getting this album asap.
March 7 gonna see them live. I can't fucking wait.
Man, it's great to see the song live, it's a great song. XD
I just don't have enough people I know who turn ME on to good music, it's either that they must be hording it or just don't know. So happy to have crossed over to Cynic from Opeth....D.T...and Gordian Knot..Jean Michelle Jarre or however it happened. Just happy to be listening!!!
They are all so incredibly skilled...
I love this song!!
it's a great video! ;)
No it's pre recorded because Paul couldn't do both the growls and the clean vocals at the same time so they just got a recording.
@BlackDahliaMurder214 It looks like a 6 string Spector, but im not sure what model
as a guitar teacher I can play some MAB like no boundaries, Jason Becker and Yngwie but the rhythm and solo here is difficult. I am learning it and it really builds your respect for this innovative band. Cynic are great.
now this is talent!
cynic is so underrated.
defiantly a song to get you through the hard times
FUcking great! As always doing nice work! =)
if you listen close, he was doing something with the higher strings up until 2:57. when they focused on him, it paul's turn to solo.
Yeah that's Tymon...
He's really good and he fits the band perfectly.
Check out his other band Exivious.
They rock!
what can i say...the best... THE BEST.
when I saw them at the Oak theater in chicago, fuck back in prob. back in 94 a chick was doing the heavy vocals. KILLER
RIP Sean Reinert. A monster drummer way ahead of his time.
Man! Unbelievable stuff!
HOLY MOTHER OF 6 STRING BASS!!! That thing is big! :D
I'll see them live in 3 days!!!
Yeah, I realized that RIGHT after I commented that.
I didn't know what Sean looked like.
I don't deny that both are incredible bassists. :-)
@AlicePJed Besides this, I love Cynic and can't wait to see them live in Italy on 10th December
the crowd's loving it
Thanks a lot dude :P
@ChainsawVsGod
Wow thanks, sounds great!
I recently downloaded Cortlandt, also from Malone and Reinert, awesome jazz album!
love you 🖤
@Hellhammer498 Well this is when Cynic had first reunited, so they just had a recording of the growls being played in the background, but now Cynic found a member that can play guitar (fucking amazingly) and do the growls, his name is Tymon...I got all of their autographs back in August, they are all really cool people
Fuck yeah, one of my favorite songs of all-time.
its a midi pickup, used with a digital workstation for various guitar/synth sounds
@InMunhoz
Yeah I know
Veil of Maya and Textures are two of my favourite bands
Paul Masvidal \\m// a huge appreciation from India Ty
Eso si es ser fan!!
saw em last night :D
and the other guitarist does the growls
and i met paul masvidal :D
Rip Sean Reinert. Amazing song!
@treacoffill
"This band sucks"

oh yeah and the crowd doesn't look bored, they're watching and listening to some very interesting music
I know....*shivers*
I got it from a torrent, you can easily look it up no problem. It also has a live song that they played from this stage show here.
Oh goodness!!! Malone is playing a MONSTER!!
@danychi24 there's already a band called "Veil of Maya" :B
They were named after the song
this is nightmare for sound engineers :) Great band!
Exactly. For him.
@PinkPantherPunk Dude he hasn't done the growls since their demos. The got a guy named Tony Teegarden to do the growls on Focus. This concert used recordings of Teegarden for the growls.
with pleasure

can't wait to see them in Belgrade
Epic! :o
@cortx2lh Paul masdivial didnt do the growls on Focus or Traced in air for that matter. He pretty much just does singing.
You see the issue with that is that all of the current fans would not appreciate Veil of Maya drastically changing their sound like that. I wouldn't mind hearing some singing in Veil of Maya's music, but at the same time I'm also perfectly content with their current sound. You don't like the growls? Lame :))

i like this bassist

@LessthanJake14 I appreciate the understanding :)
Between the buried and me, Misery Signals, Human Abstract, Life in your way, Protest the hero, Textures
Paul does the growls with his mind...
@ImperialArmour IIRC a woman did some of the parts on this song, so you might be right.
now that's music
theres multiple cameramen that are probably supposed to focus on a specific mark, its the editors fault that they didnt cut to paul
Bass eargasm :D
music for the mind, not for the feet. w/e other people say, cynic are soo far ahead of their time, all hail the inventors of tech- death =D
There is a very distinct Death influence in this song. I dont know if they list Death as an influence but its there.
i was looking for that too :P
couldn't find it...
he's just known as "tymon" i guess
@lainiac2012
its prerecorded. i think they had a contest, but im not sure on that.
@ChainsawVsGod
Oh and you know Steve DiGiorgio? Also an amazing fretless bassist, I really like his jazz project Dark Hall and his band Sadus with the album Elements of Anger!
haha no way dude
in some parts the concert isn't as good, but in other parts it pwns the CD.
anywho, can't wait for the new album =)
