  • Drumsticks on the weber q1200
Apply the rub to the chicken drumsticks and let them rest in the fridge while doing the rest of the preparations. Heat the grill to searing temp and then sear the chicken all the way around. Lower the heat to 135-150C (275-300F), close the lid, and try not to check the chicken for atleast 10 minutes. Turn them around a bit and then cook for another 25 minutes Check the chicken to see if any pull back occurs, and if so try taking the temp of the meat without touching bone, it should be atleast 85C/185F in my opinion (although 74C/165F is safe to eat as far as i have found online). Leave on for another 10 minutes and then check the temp again until you reach your target temp. Lastly, i added some barbecuesauce to some of the drumsticks and then finished them for about 10 more minutes. I was really happy with the Q1200 keeping the temp at 137-143C (280F-290F) since that means that i should be able to cook some low and slow meals using a heatdeflector and a rivet to lift the meat a bit. I also fount that when i ran it to clean of any factory residue icould bring it up to 290C(550F) which will cover any really hot cooks. So all in all - very happy with the buy.
Thanks to Justin over at Baby Back Maniac link • Unboxing weber q1200 who inspired me to get one of these, as well as giving me helpful answers to my questions about it.

Elton's BBQ-pit Thank you very much. I think the rub is quite versatile, and just add something extra when needed.

GREAT JOB with the chicken legs. I did 5 on my Q120 Tuesday. 3 biggest on the right side since it's the hottest. I rub olive oil on each which Weber recommends then add seasoning salt to one side and BBQ sauce once done. 15 minutes one side 15 on the other. Preheat on high then grill on low. Perfect! What are the ingredients in your rub??

@@LassesFoodAndBarbecue - There is a more basic version without the dome lid (which is a bit higher) and the heat gauge, but I still consider them both Baby Q's. It is just that this one has the upgrade lid :) There is a q1000 with a more basic/lower lid, but still a Baby Q.
