    😂😂😂!!! Silent W in safety! That wins you the world wide internet for the night! I only have one discrepancy, with stealth camping, you can have a fire if you build a Dakota fire hole with a branch 5' to 6' over your "chimney", to disperse the smoke, however, there will be dispersed smoke in the general area. Bugout 101. You hit every single point I have ever even thought of for a camp site, from the water. Excellent information content. I have no reservations that you are The Man of kayak camping. Thanks for sharing this priceless information with us!

      Thanks Scott! I have def dug some Dakota pits in my day. by the time you get the pit dug, you are so warm you dont even need the fire! They are fun too. Good point!

      @@RiverKingsKayak it's really a technicality. You covered everything quite sufficiently. I'm aware this is not a Bugout survival video. I'm sure I could learn much from you on that topic also.

    I've been kayak camping over the last 11 years on ten different rivers in Texas and many spots along the Gulf Coast. We are usually fishing the whole time in sit-on-tops. I prefer hammocks in the warmer months, tents in the winter. I have found that most islands and gravel bars occur just downstream of the mouths of feeder creeks, as that's where more sediment comes into the river. In Texas, gravel bars and islands are considered to be part of the river, and are public property. We still camp out of sight from any houses or buildings out of respect for landowners. We aren't "party campers", but we do enjoy our beers and fireside conversations. We fish for catfish at night, so a spot near a good fishing hole is ideal. Sycamore trees are nearly always the perfect distance apart for hanging a hammock, and are easy to spot from a distance. Even in the hottest part of summer in Texas, the air is cool near the water at night. You'll sweat all night if you camp too far up on the bank in June. Some rivers have jon boat traffic, so we sometime pick a spot that is a bit more hidden from motor boats. Usually they don't even notice us until they're past us. Wild hogs and water mocs are probably the most dangerous things on out rivers, but fire ants are the most annoying. We usually do one or two night trips, take our time, and fish every spot that looks like it might hold a bass. A mesh onion sack makes a great trash bag .

    I found your video after an extended search on kayak camping. Most never made it past the juvenile opening, and their presentation didn’t improve. Your topic stayed focused, was well presented, and every bit was pertinent. Very well done (including doing the video while dressed for kayaking). Don’t ask me to take your presentation seriously, if the presentation shows lack of planning and awareness of proper safety. You topped it!

    Great video full of useful information. Thank you! One thing I'd like to add though. If you're stealth camping and want to use a fire for cooking etc. Find a spot early in the evening that you can cook at. Cook and eat, wash up, then move on to your campsite for the night. Most rivers are privately owned here in the UK so I'm always having to hide my tracks.

    Sorry for so many questions , I use a Garmin 64st, is there a option for river paddling ? It seems all options for route/type, Hiking, Cycling , Mountaineering etc are as “crow flies” from my start and finish marks. Also do you use Basecamp app to load or just straight from Google Earth? 😖

    • @RiverKingsKayak
      @RiverKingsKayak  5 років тому +1

      I use a Garmin Etrex 20 just as a dashboard of sorts for mph, totals on mileage etc...I rely on physical maps created on google earth and laminated for actual navigation and pinpointing locations etc. Have never used basecamp app. On occasion, I will use Back Country Navigator App for getting grids and aerial photos etc. It works on standalone GPS.
