I think this silent version was better than the 1959 sound remake.

Donald Sosin's score was perfect for the mood of the film, and one of the reasons I prefer the '34 version to the '59.

Just watched this on TCM last night and loved this beautiful, simple story. A lovely piano soundtrack accompanied the film.
