ok... first of all... even trying this song deserves some complimenting, but I know that people just writing "sounds great" are not helping you better your product... I'm a HUGE Zappa fan, so I am going to be very presumptuous now, and try to look at this through the eyes of the composer. You have done a very good job of interpreting the song, and the horn player tackled most of the melodies and harmonies with verve and gets a 95% rating. (We'll speak about that 5 % later.) The rythym section had some problems.. not severe, and I understand that it's a zoom thing... but this song has to groove more. And considering the problem, may I suggest that if possible try to record the bass and drums together... I mean in the same room at the same time. It may be a headache to setup, but you would probably fix the "groove problem". If you live in different cities or countries... then I guess you just have to work on trying to groove to a ghost. But overall it just has a few moments that are lagging. Now... that 5%. At 2.10 there is a passage that has 5 notes... you don't play it wrong... but you left off the last 2 notes of a hocketed section... as a result... you are playing three fifths of the melody line. As much credit as I have given you, I think Frank would detract 5 points for that changing his melody through ommission part. sooo 95%. The vibes were interesting... they were correct... but... well... you know.
Nice arrangement! Zappa was most certainly an innovator.
Great cover guys! 😀
