Humpback Whales in Monterey Bay
Переглядів 1298 років тому
An estimated 30 or so Humpback whales at the surface from a pod of perhaps 50-80. Viewed on a commercial trip with Sea Goddess Whale Watching Monterey Bay in Moss Landing CA, July 16, 3:30 trip. Overcast skies and low light make for many shades of grey video, but it's stunning to see so many whales so close. These are the whales at positions "9:00 to 11:00" relative to the boat as described by ...

ok... first of all... even trying this song deserves some complimenting, but I know that people just writing "sounds great" are not helping you better your product... I'm a HUGE Zappa fan, so I am going to be very presumptuous now, and try to look at this through the eyes of the composer. You have done a very good job of interpreting the song, and the horn player tackled most of the melodies and harmonies with verve and gets a 95% rating. (We'll speak about that 5 % later.) The rythym section had some problems.. not severe, and I understand that it's a zoom thing... but this song has to groove more. And considering the problem, may I suggest that if possible try to record the bass and drums together... I mean in the same room at the same time. It may be a headache to setup, but you would probably fix the "groove problem". If you live in different cities or countries... then I guess you just have to work on trying to groove to a ghost. But overall it just has a few moments that are lagging. Now... that 5%. At 2.10 there is a passage that has 5 notes... you don't play it wrong... but you left off the last 2 notes of a hocketed section... as a result... you are playing three fifths of the melody line. As much credit as I have given you, I think Frank would detract 5 points for that changing his melody through ommission part. sooo 95%. The vibes were interesting... they were correct... but... well... you know.

Thanks, it's a slightly edited final part of some music originally made for another video. The main keyboard part is spliced together from (ahem) random noodling, and the trumpet and bass keyboard line were improvised to suit that result. Next time I need to get off my lazy duff and actually write something down in advance.

musique mechanique is one of my favorite albums. you got the mechanical sound and the sweet sensitiveness the song needs just right. love the compressed dampened tp sounds, sometimes almost sounding like a hurdy-gurdy. again, great job. must have been a lot of work.
