3:32 Yes, you use salt to melt snow and ice. You can put down salt before a winter storm to pre-emptively prevent ice from forming and to soften heavy snow. Cities will usually send out big trucks filled with salt to spread it on the streets and major roadways before a storm.
The only problem is that it really doesn't work too great until there is at least some kind of sunlight.
That Marv scream is hands down the best scream in film history 😂
Suck it Wilhelm 😂
I don't know. When Culkin sees the "shovel slayer" outside, that was a pretty good scream too! LOL
What about his scream in the sequel with the pigeons? Also great.
I would add Major Payne and Van Pelt from Jumanji. All equal in quality screams.
Home alone 2’s with the pigeons is yet somehow even better 😂
The genius of the late, great John Hughes was that he knew how to make a film that all ages could enjoy and would get something out of. Even in his so-called "kids" movies there were always some adult elements that parents could snicker at and these in-jokes would go right over the innocent little darlings' heads. Even Disney animated and live action films from their Renaissance Period were able to slip in stuff that older viewers would relate to. Too bad movies can't be made like this anymore.
Fun fact ... Daniel Stern (Marv) had to mime the scream while filming the spider scene so as not to scare the spider away. He recorded an actual scream which was dubbed in during post production. Also - if you were born in 1990 or before, you're now older than Daniel Stern was in this movie.

@@zach4627 Okay, so hear me out... this might be mind-blowing at first... but Google is a Thing. It's a Thing that's right in your pocket. You can even use it with only your voice.
It literally took me ten seconds to fact check Astro's comment and see that there are _multiple_ sources for that factoid.
I'm seriously getting so tired of all of the wannabe internet sleuths and skeptics for _every single little thing_ that's even the _least bit_ interesting. 🙄
That isn’t true. He’s said in interviews that it was real on-set.
I’m older than Marv and seeing all the torture he endures, gives a whole new perspective on this movie. If I even so much as sleep in the wrong position, I wake up with a sore neck/back. Can’t imagine going through all those booby traps lol
Macauly Culkin recently received his star in the Hollywood Walk of Fame...& this movie is a perfect example of why he's earned it.
One of the best christmas films ever made. Hands ⬇️
And Catherine O’Hara (the woman who played Kevin’s mom in the movie) was there to celebrate with him ❤
To me, Macauly Culkin's role on Uncle Buck is even better than Home Alone.
As a Midwesterner, salting the sidewalks (and roads) was common before snowstorms and freezes, so there isn't any ice to cause problems. A big deal is black ice, which looks just like wet pavement but can cause you to slip and cause cars to spin out (black ice is what made the stairs slippery). Then come spring, a lot of car washes market for getting all the salt off your car to prevent rust.
i'm from MD & usually they only salt ahead ifit's supposedto be heavy the salt after to melt it usually
I've always liked the sequel a lot more. The stakes are higher, it feels much more emotional, Kevin actually acts like his age (in the first one he seems like he's 6 years old), and John Williams even improved the score! But there couldn't be any sequel without the first one, it's a classic.
They are equally awesome and are best watched back to back, I was hoping she would have done a double upload
Pretty confident I speak for everyone when I say the Lamby content is rapidly shifting from adorable to bizarre and I am one million percent onboard.
Same here loving it all! ❤😊
Chris Columbus direct Home Alone 1&2 & Harry Potter 1&2. He's also a executive producer in Fantastic Four 1&2.
I love that John Candy and Macaulay were reunited in this after Uncle Buck. Even though they weren't in a scene together, close enough. Also the funeral scene by Candy was completely improvised, which makes it even more hilarious. And Marv's spider death scream is legit. He had arachnophobia. The greatest crime in this movie certainly...even tragedy...is that Kevin didn't even get to eat his Macaroni and Cheese...😞
They actually filmed the scenes when Fuller (Macaulay's actual brother) gets squished by the chair and Kevin almost with the van in reverse. That's hilarious, I wrote that before Jax made the comment on the Mac n Cheese, we absolutely agree! 👀
Culkin the late Candy (R.I.P.) also appeared in Only the Lonely not long after Home Alone.
A few years ago, I had the opportunity to pet, and then hold a tarantula. Spiders in general only creep me out a little bit, especially when they surprise me, but intentionally holding one (an especially large one) was never on my bucket list. It was unexpectedly light, very soft, and calm. But the best thing about the experience was a couple of my coworkers, who were deeply terrified by spiders, watched me handling the tarantula, and worked up the courage to take it from my hands themselves. They both asked for photos of them holding it (“make sure you can tell it’s me!”) to have a keepsake and proof to show others that they overcame their fear for that moment. I hope that you get an opportunity to touch and hold one someday. As far as experiences go, it’s not necessarily a life goal, but for me, when I’m reminded of tarantulas, I can say to myself, “I held one of those.”
intentionally*
Fun fact: Heather actually DOES count wrong, she taps herself on the head as 3 and then taps herself again on the head as 11. When the camera angle is from inside the van to show the neighbors kid, she's visable in the background tapping and counting herself again as 11. Everyone go watch that part of the movie back again 😂
Glad to know I'm not the only one that noticed that. Crazy how so few people noticed.
To be fair, Buzz was throwing her off.
The power of Santa is 100% real
I work at a restaurant and a few weeks ago we had a table of 4 older men, dressed in red, natural white beards and mustaches, getting ready for Christmas. One of them told me they were part of a chapter of Santas in town and I had to thank them for putting a smile on all of our faces. I didn't have my phone on me but before I could ask for a picture of them all, one of them held up his phone a it was a picture of them all. He asked if I would like a copy and I said of course! As I'm punching in my number I'm getting all teary eyed because of this wonderful gesture. I shook all of their hands and had to go wipe the tears from my eyes. Before they left, the visited a few tables that had children and talked with them. It was so beautiful
I hope you and Lammie have an absolute wonderful Christmas with your family!!
There are a number of videos on UA-cam by doctors, who watch this part of the movie, and talk about how injured Harry and Marv actually would be if the booby traps were real.
Also, back in the day, pizza places really did have the free pizza if they didn’t deliver it within a certain amount of time, but there were so many lawsuits against them because of the amount of accidents, injuries and deaths, they eventually ended the promotion.
I remember a show or a movie where the kids ordered like 10 pizzas in a snowstorm thinking they would get free pizza because of the weather and the driver made it at the last minute.
When this came out, I was a Paramedic and had seen injuries caused from these kinds of traumatic events. They did not turn out as well as Marv and Harry did.
For a long time Dominoes had a 30 minutes or it's free guarantee.
The full story of Macaulay Culkin is insane to me. Highly recommend watching a documentary on him.
Daniel Stern's EPIC SCREAM with the SPIDER on his face is one of my TOP screams of all time in movies! I just love how the music score swells setting up for a dramatic finish, then the music just CUTS OFF. And we are left with only epic Stern's scream! I get a good laugh every time I see this scene!!!
Fun fact about the spider and the scream from Daniel Stern. He was not allowed to make a sound when the spider was placed on his face. He had to go in a sound booth and record the scream and dub in in post prosuction.
Oooh! I was wondering about that. That makes so much sense.
Home Alone is one of the most funniest Christmas Movies ever 🤣 😂
The traps in Home Alone 2 are even more brutal lol
Girl you are on a ROLL with the content!
Absolutely GOATed reaction!
Old Man Marley's little reconnecting arc never really stood out to me until I was an adult and now it's my favorite part of the movie at the end 😭
Edit: get OUT OF CALIFORNIA for Christmas sometime in your future. You need the magic of snow in your life 😤
Thank you so much! I really appreciate you saying that! ❤️🐑🎉
I agree that the neighbor's story line hits different as an adult.
@@reactswithjax Joe Pesci as we all knew is that he curse a lot in the movies. So he was not allowed by the directors of Home Alone to curse in the set of the movie. So he mumbled the word "fridge" a lot to replaced the word you know what.
@@reactswithjax Can you react to Home Alone 2 (Lost in New York).
Fun fact: That French airline agent who puts Kevin's mom on standby is not actually French. She's played by Hope Davis, who went on to play Tony Stark's mom!
OMG! That's so cool! Thanks for pointing her out. ❤️
The actor that plays Fuller, the little kid with glasses, is Kieran Culkin, Macaulay Culkin’s younger brother, and he’s still a pretty busy actor.
Catherine O’Hara, the mom, has said that she had to do the scene where she’s mean to Kevin a bunch, because she had such a hard time being that nasty to Macaulay Culkin.
Macaulay Culkin adlibbed that line "Do you guys give up, or are you thirsty for more?"
That is so cool!
Fun fact, the fall that Harry does off the front steps is now called the "Home Alone" fall by stuntmen.
That is SO COOL!
When I was 12, I moved in with my dad in a new state in the middle of the school year during Christmas break. Not knowing anyone, I spent a lot of time watching movies at the small 3 house theater which was a 2 mile walk. Due to lack of options, I saw Home Alone 7 weeks in a row.
Wow, that's a lot of times! ❤️
Man I never realized how relatable Kevin is…
Happy holiday season and new year to you too!!
Merry Christmas Jax/ All the best to you your family and Lamby
Stop trying to help the villains,, what are you doing? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Love her
Merry Christmas Jax!! Hope you have a lovely holiday season 🐑❤💚❤💚
Great reaction jax and merry christmas to you ⛄️🎅🎄🎁
Another great movie reaction Jax. Like you, its been awhile since I’ve actually sat and watched this movie from start to end. I usually don’t like to watch the same Xmas movies every year for fear that they’ll lose their impact. But sitting and watching this movie with you again brought back that magic. Christmas is a time for giving and sharing, but once a week every Friday for 52 weeks we get a special gift from you, when you allow us to share in the joy of watching movies with you. Merry Christmas Jax! And Happy Holidays to the entire Reacts with Jax community!
Hey, Jax, nice reaction. This one is such a blast from the past, no pun bars intended. Great classic to watch at Christmastime. You'll love the second one, I prefer that one over this one and I won't spoil why. besides The Santa Clause 1 and 2 films, Jingle All The Way is a fun one as well as One Magic Christmas (1985) and A Mom For Christmas with Olivia Newton-John.
Nice editing jax... Loved the reaction ❤
Thank you so much 😁
Hadn't checked in while and I forgot how good these are. You haven't missed a beat.
Great job on the videos and Merry Christmas to you!
Thank you so much! Happy New Year! ❤️
Have a great Christmas Jax from Ireland 🇮🇪.
Great reaction to a fantastic film. Home Alone took me back to my childhood, watching Warner Bros. cartoons as well as Tom & Jerry. Loved them so much.
Great reaction to Home Alone Jax.😃 This has always been one of my favorite childhood movies. Merry Christmas 🎄🎁🎅☃️
I am working for a gardening company in Northern Germany and we also are on emergency calls for Winter duties. We can't use pure salt anymore because of the ground level water and the plants, so we use a combo of Salt (to melt the snow and ice) and gravel or sand to make the ground less slippery, after shoveling of course
I had no idea that snow could create so many problems.
Merry Christmas to you too🙌🏼
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! ❤️🎄🎉
As a person who's spent HIS entire life in the other US state whose name starts with a 'C' (the one on the East coast), I can attest that yes, when the winter weather hits, a lot of salt winds up on every walkable/driveable surface 🙂
Why was my first thought “Oh, yeah. Colombia.”
@dalynagarcia3861 LOL, it is in fact Connecticut (though I think Colombia might actually be closer to California than CT)...also tbh, I inadvertently forgot about Colorado, the 3rd 'C' state in America (my bad, oops 😕)
Great holiday reaction! Thank you for sharing.
Thanks so much for watching! Happy Holidays!
iknow the 1st time I rewatch a movie as an adultit hits different & sometimes if it's been a WHILE like I forgot the plot or something you might recognize actors you didn't know who they were when you first saw it
This will always be my favourite Christmas time classics home alone 1,2 & 3 rd one
Great reaction as usual! Omg you've never lived in a place with snow? When the sidewalks are icy, salting the sidewalk helps people get a little extra grip under their feet so they dont slip. There's this blue salt that actually melts the ice when you use it! Im Canadian so i get pretty excited about all this lmao. Anyway, fantastic reaction, it really brings back memories of when I saw this as a kid. LOVE LOVE LOVE the editing lmao, I appreciate all the little things you put in. Looking forward to the next one!
Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, and all that jazz, Jax.
Thank you! Merry Christmas and I'll see you in 2024!!! Wishing you the best holiday season ❤️
I was also born in 1990 (how time flies) and I remember watch this movie with my parents while making the Christmans tree at home with pizza (because of the movie)... oh my childhood. ❤
I don't know what the norm is, or was, in 1990's Chicago, but as an inhabitant of present day Norway I can tell you that during the winter months, while roads, sidewalks and driveways get sprinkled with gravel, some people still salt the driveways to their private residences. Salt melts the ice, but it's an unsustainable practice in the long run, so most people just use gravel for their driveways as well. Come spring the gravel is swept up by sweeper trucks to be used again by the city next winter. Salt is often only used if it's really, really icy outside.
I watched this movie religiously as a kid. Even when it wasn’t Christmas time… I watched it at friends houses too
I grew up in Gurnee Illinois about 45 minutes north of where the house was filmed. They used the production team at a high school that was abandoned. They filmed the House interior in the school gymnasium because the house was small to film in. They also used the neighbors basement scene when the water is leaking in the gymnasium too. The high school was also filmed for Uncle Buck, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, 16 Candles and The Breakfast Club. The high school is now a police station. Yes in Illinois you have to salt the sidewalks and streets
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!
I grew up in Cali and when I moved to Utah I didn't understand salting the sidewalks. Now I do, you can't get anywhere here without salt.
2:49 Actually.... she says it very well (there is a silent T at the end and much french learners pronounce it and not her so....) 😅 Bonjour from France BTW ^^
Fun one, Jax! Thanks for sharing it with us. 🙂
90s buddies!
I introduced the younger generation to this movie earlier this month. It's so fun!
Hello fellow 90s kid! I love that you're passing the traditions onto the youngsters ❤️🐑🎉
Merry Christmas Jax 🎅 🎄 😊
Merry Christmas to you too! Have a great holiday and I'll see you in 2024!! ❤️🐑🎉
Marv stepping on the nail is hilarious 😂
Little Nero's pizza shop was a real place in the Chicago area back in the day. One of John Hughes favorite places to eat that's why it was in this movie. The name came from little Caesars.
OMG. I literally watched this as my Christmas movie of the day, today.
3:27 Yes in the north we salt sidewalk, soup, french fires...
23:40 THANK YOU! Finally after all these years someone is on the page as me! Lol
You and Lamby are just the best. I love that you let us all in on every random thought you have 😂 I grew up on these movies. Pagemaster is another Macaulay Culkin movie I really enjoyed. Hope you had an amazing Christmas!
I'm so glad you enjoyed this!! I didn't realize Macaulay Culkin made other movies. Hope your holidays were wonderful! Happy New Year!❤️
You were exactly right about Marv's scream. We all screamed that same scream with him inside. And then we laughed so hard!
Actually, salt can help petrify the body, it can sort of turn them into mummies. Though it’s not as permanent.
Also, salt help lower the freezing point of the water in the ice, it essentially melts the ice and prevents ice from forming,
This movie is truly a classic Christmas film to watch. The sassiness you had at the beginning of the film 😂. And once again the sheep save the day again lol
Fun fact about this movie. The actress who played the oldest daughter was a member of the US Olympic Judo team!
That made me laugh your hero of the film was the sheep 🐑. LOL!
I've lived in Colorado most of my life. Yes, there is ice melt (salt) that you put down. Of course, shoveling the snow first is required. That's the only part of winter I don't like.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to Jax and all of you!
Thank you! Happy Holidays and I'll see you in 2024!!! ❤️🐑🎉
Omg! Her smile is brighter than my future!
I love your reactions!!!!
Thank you!!
movie trivia. the nail is rubber so he could just stomp on it over and over. the spider on the face was supposed to be fake, but they couldn't make it look real on his face, so they had to use the real thing. that scream is pretty much a real scream.
the special salt will help dissolve the ice and at the same time, create friction so shoes to not slip. The problem is when it melts the salt does not always dissolve and makes a mess. We use regular salt on the front walk. Its too bad you never had snow for the holiday.
I was a teenager when this came out and the thing that stands out to me the most is how beautiful Catherine O'Hara is! 😍
This is one of my favourite childhood movie ❤❤❤❤
Yes.
Salting the sidewalks clears them of snow.
When Kevin says that he’s living alone when he gets married reminds me of when I told my grandma that I couldn’t wait to get my license so I can just drive up to the house to get my candy on Halloween. #KidsSayTheDarndestThings 🤣😂
Fantastic Christmas movie!
loved it
THE BEST CHRISTMAS MOVIEE
Happy Holidays Jax! Hope you have a wonderful season. Catch you and Lammy upon your return 🐑🐑🐑
northern california has snow lol and yes you have to use rock salt (pet friendly kinds only!!!) to melt the snow and ice off the sidewalks so no one slips.
You should do home alone 2!!
in my house for holidays or birthdays when all my sisters and brother with their families get together it makes about 25 people at one table
I live in the mountains N. of Boise, Id. I don't put "salt" or ice melt down on concrete as my 1st winter I put some on some concrete pavers & it ate up the surface. I use ice melt to remove ice on my crushed granite (CG) driveway & kitty litter for traction (human or car/truck). I'm too old for shovels, I use a walk behind spreader. I also have an ATV (4 wheeler) with a snow plow attachment & a couple of snow blowers to clear the snow.
The airport stuff was so familiar from back in the day -- you could run from entrance to gate and no one would stop you or even bat an eye. (TBF, this was even before the skyjacking fad of the 70s, DB Cooper, and the towers...and you'd still get a meal even sitting with the rest of the riffraff in steerage.)
What a classic!!💖💖🎅🎅❄❄🎄🎄🤗🤗
Chicago's O'Hare Airport is huge!
Even if you get to the airport , you'd still have to get to the right gate.
Jax, I just want you to know ... I held off on watching this until today, because you were my Christmas present to myself !!! I couldn't've gotten anything nicer !!! I hope you have a VERY Merry Christmas and that you also have a Happy New Year !!!
What a kind thing to say! Thank you! Wishing you the most wonderful Christmas and Happiest New Year! ❤️🎄🎉
With you, and asking for nothing else, I've already gotten/achieved everything I ever wanted, and you were just that something extra I needed. I have been fulfilled in so many ways ... so I don't feel I need/want or even deserve anything else ... but I've always felt you were the perfect woman !!!\
You don't need to thank me, just understand that I recognize you for what you are ... a beautiful and most awesome woman. I just understand your place in the world ... and appreciate it !!!
Merry Christmas!🎄
Merry Christmas to you too! ❤️ 🎄
One of my favourite christmas movies ever not just for the comedy but the feels the end always gets me 😭i wont lie though i did watch this mainly for you reaction to the traps Jax 😂
Sticky Bandits > Wet Bandits 🤣
I'm from Idaho, ice melt and salt are lifesavers in the winter.
Break into an easier home. LOL!!
No matter how much my life is gone down hill your videos always cheer me up ❤️
I'm so glad these reactions can make your day more cheery! Wishing you the happiest new year and holiday season!! ❤️
I live in Chicago, and every year we have the tradition to visit the Home Alone house. Definitely a fun experience!
That's awesome! ❤️
I loved watching this movie with you !!Jax you were born in 1990 I was born in 1970. Yes you do have to salt your walkways I fell going down mine 2 weeks ago I live in Red Deer Alberta Canada 🇨🇦 You have a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Years. I look forward to seeing you and Lambie in 2024!!!
Up here in Northern Canada the city doesn't salt the sidewalk unless it's a SERIOUS public safety issue, though they are plowed and sanded. It's usually up to homeowners and businesses to salt the sidewalks adjacent to their properties. If I remember the movie correctly, the old guy does it because his daughter (niece?) died from a slippery sidewalk? Not sure, it's been ages since I watched this. Oh, and yes, sufficient amounts of salt around a body CAN mummify! Salt is a great desiccant and preservative.
Hope you are able to check out Home Alone 2: Lost in New York!
Happy Holidays!
It always bugs me about the pizza delivery guy. If I thought someone had been shooting at me, I would have went straight back to the pizza place and called the police.
Maybe he had weed in the car and was too paranoid to call. That's pizza drivers for ya!
