Sarah Adams, First of all, I want to thank you for your service and dedication. It's rare to come across someone within the U.S. government who truly understands the complex and often misunderstood dynamics of Afghanistan. You’re among the few who have recognized that many elite Pashtuns, who worked closely with the U.S. government-individuals like Zalmay Khalilzad, along with others embedded in the State Department, Department of Defense, and various institutions-have consistently placed their ethnic and personal agendas above the broader interests of Afghanistan as a nation, and even above the strategic interests of the United States. These individuals, who had significant influence over U.S. policy in Afghanistan, often misrepresented the country’s history, ethnic relations, and internal dynamics to serve their own ethnic group. This biased representation led to decisions that did not reflect the realities on the ground, but rather the narrow ambitions of those in positions of power.
Afghanistan is a country of minorities, each with its own unique history and aspirations. Yet, time and again, these influential Pashtun figures sidelined the diverse voices of Afghanistan to advance their ethnic kin. Their actions, rooted in self-interest, contributed significantly to the disastrous situation we see today, where the Taliban-a group that shares their ethnicity-has regained control, plunging the country back into chaos. The failure of U.S. policy in Afghanistan cannot solely be attributed to external factors or the complexities of the region. A large part of this failure lies in the decisions made by those who were supposed to guide U.S. policy with honesty and integrity. Instead, they exploited their positions, presenting a skewed version of events to U.S. decision-makers, leading to a series of missteps that ultimately left Afghanistan in the hands of terrorists. I’ve seen firsthand how these individuals consistently placed their ethnic group’s interests ahead of the nation’s future, obstructing efforts to build a stable and inclusive Afghanistan. They aligned themselves with the Taliban, not out of a shared vision for the country, but because of shared ethnic ties. This betrayal has left Afghanistan in ruins, and the blame lies squarely with those who prioritized their narrow, self-serving goals over the well-being of millions. Your awareness and understanding of these dynamics are invaluable. I believe it is crucial to acknowledge the role these individuals played in the failure of U.S. efforts in Afghanistan. Their actions not only betrayed the people of Afghanistan but also led to the undermining of years of work and sacrifice by countless others who genuinely sought to build a better future for the country.
Thank you for your insightful perspective and continued efforts to shine a light on these critical issues.

Thank you, Sara, for your dedicated service in supporting counter-terrorism efforts, particularly in the regions where Afghanistan and some of its ethnic groups are the primary victims. You did an excellent job by ensuring that the terrorist Taliban leader is behind bars, which is where they rightfully belong. I hope that the new administration, whatever it may be, will focus on counter-terrorism, especially addressing the threats posed by the Taliban and Al-Qaida, who currently control Afghanistan.

The U.S. government must urgently address the threat of Taliban-affiliated terrorists, including those linked to the Haqqani Network, a Pashtun-exclusive organization from eastern Afghanistan and tribal areas of Pakistan, acquiring Afghan passports. The Haqqani Network, sharing the same radical agenda as other terrorist groups, poses a severe risk if these individuals exploit Afghan passports to enter the U.S. through the southern border or other means. Remember, fewer than two dozen terrorists from Saudi Arabia were responsible for the catastrophic 9/11 attacks, which forever changed U.S. history and security policies. Given this, it’s clear that immediate and decisive action is needed to tackle this threat and protect national security.
