Well if you are having a hard time deciding between a Lake Buccaneer/Renegade or a Cessna float plane watch this video! Very nice production. Tennessee, USA
Been a long while Ben, but I was learning to fly in Caloundra in 2009, ended up getting rated in the water. Always excited to see the Buccaneers out and about, seem to be having the best trips!
Renegades are a very powerful and much easier handling aircraft than the buccaneer. I highly reccomend that you purchase one. Although, in my mind the buccaneer is more fun to fly.
12-15 inch waves is a good wave limit, although I have had to operate my buccaneer in much higher waves. Starting at 2ft and growing to about 4ft in open water. I don't recommend operating In conditions like this but it just goes to show what a robust aircraft the buccaneer is.
Surprisingly robust hulls but being able to deal with chop and wind depends on the model of Lake and the pilot. But, still light yrs better than newer models that haven't taken 70yrs of data in to account
I'm an A&P based in the US and Im looking buying and fixing up a colonial C-1 Skimmer (2 seater predecessor to the buccaneer) if you have any info or hints and tips I would really appreciate it. Thanks for the great video
Thanks for watching the videos. Regarding buying and fixing a seaplane - my advise would be concentrate on any corrosion issues - they’re the expensive and time consuming problems - mechanical issues are easily fixed with just money. Cheers Ben
Yes, about 15" of chop is considered the limit - of course, it can take more but stresses the hull. Insurance companies normally won't cover overnight mooring.
Mach Tuck there are videos on UA-cam of touch and goes in 2ft shallow chop with 45mph crosswinds. In a newer LSA amphibian that's a death sentence but the Lake's are solid as oak. Not recommended but for the biggest sacks, though
@@buccaneerben I'm actively looking for one, but not willing to pay the asking price on anything I've seen yet. I'm in the Southern US. I love the Seawind also but the wife doesn't want move into a caravan and Lake's fit my needs much better. I remember reading about an OZ amphib a few yrs ago that was about to start production but can't remember, it could've been a kit, but I'm open to anything 4 place with enough ass for sea-level in the summertime...
@@alabastardmasterson I think Buccaneers provide the best bang for the buck - well tried, tested & documented plane (unlike others) - good group of fellow owners. If I were buying new, then it’d be Russian.

The animation was just a bit of fun - the pilot discussions weren't scripted but the voiceover was. Directing pilots is similar to herding cats - they all go their own way.
The gentleman at the beginning said the Lake Buccaneer was designed by Grumman, and that is not correct at all. Grumman had nothing to do with the design at all!!!!!!
Really fun video series made with a lot of heart. Great scenery, fun airplanes, and charming tone. Now my wife wants a Lake Buccaneer!
Watched all two your Buccaneers videos - great trip and great airplane! Thanks for sharing and hi from Israeli pilots!

My dream plane! Great video.
I had a 79 LA4-200 years ago and how I miss that slow, loud, fun machine. A lot more fun than my current C177RG
Yes, the Buccaneer is a really fun machine!

They seem to hold their value incredibly well in the US...or, the owners are just that proud of them
