    It really seems like a worthy project for a heavy investor(s) to reignite the program to get it certified, making whatever changes and improvements to do so. I don’t think whatever problems it may have had were unsolvable. Fantastic looking airplane.

      Negative! SeaWind did not bankrupt... not according to Wiki
      en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seawind_International_Seawind
      The company simply died after its founder Richard Silva died at age 82.

      There are lots of reasons for an seaplane company to go out of business before it gets to production. Sometimes, its just not a great plane - like maybe the water landing speeds are way too high and water handling behaviors too bad for even experienced seaplane pilots. Sometimes the ownership has ego problems- like suing partners and everyone associated with the original plane. Sometimes, the quality of the builds are so bad that reasonable investors won’t touch it. Sometimes, all of the above… Renaming it from Seawind to Seawind 3000 didn’t make the stink go way.

    Hi all! I served as test pilot on the pre-production Seawind prototype during its developmental test flying in Ottawa, Canada. The airplane was indeed innovative, but making the design compliant with the regulatory requirements for a Part 23 light airplane was daunting. The prototype exhibited some challenging handling qualities, particularly regarding the stall and spin-resistance requirements. Numerous modifications were incorporated to attempt to tame its quirks. The certification effort became increasingly complex and expensive. Around the time that Transport Canada recommended a stick-pusher in lieu of taming the natural stall, it became evident that a certified solution was not affordable. Despite the optimistic name of the video, there IS NO certified Seawind. As an experimental, the Seawind could be perfect choice for some pilots, but I recommend flying it before purchase to ensure that pilot and airplane are compatible.

    I am an R/C flyer and stumbled across your video totally by accident. I love seaplanes and was considering buying the Sea Wind R/C model and was looking at promotional Sea Wind R/C video when I stumbled upon your video.. I just want to say that I have seen the famed Icon Sea Plane and have even flown a model of it, but the Sea Wind and all it's capabilities blows it out of the water and out of the sky for that matter... The Icon has so many limitations compared to the Sea Wind that I don't see how it could ever compare to a Sea Wind... I have always wanted to fly in a sea plane and of course because of the styling I wanted to fly in a Icon, but not anymore and if I had any reservations on flying in a small seaplane they are absolutely gone now...! If the chance ever arises for me to be able to fly in one of your Sea Winds I would jump at the chance as it has me sold and I don't even fly the real stuff...! Thanks for making your video available to the public it was awesome to see... Thank you.... Zachary E. Mohrmann Fort Pierce, Fl.

    Enough useful load to live on board. For the price, I would need to. Awesome specs. It would be weird to fly at Mach 6 everywhere you go though. Can't do low and slow with 59 MPH stall speed, trade off is it has great range and speed. It also looks like landing the Space Shuttle on the ocean. Coming in HOT! Careful with that AoA! This is the only plane I would circumnavigate in.

      A Searey (not seawind) circumnavigated the planet about 2014. Its the only single engine seaplane to do so ever. Single vfr pilot, no autopilot. The southern sun. Every seawind I have ever seen was a hangar queen and almost never saw water landings.

    It seems that Lisa Airplanes with the model Akoya copied this design and, maybe, improved it!

      The Akoya is a light sport aircraft seating two rather than four. Be a closer comparison to the Icon A5 than the Seawind.

      That's a VERY good question, Nighthawk0077, and we're SOOOO glad you asked it. Here's Chad with your answer. Hi, I'm Chad, and I'm here to tell YOU why I am talking to you as though you are 8 years old. Remember when your dad used to play catch with you? Why, sure you do! Remember his calm, reassuring tones? Just like Ozzie Nelson. Made ya feel like a big man in a kid's body, right, sport? Here at Seawind, that's exactly what we're trying to impart......wait.....impart.....is that too big a word for ya, squirt? Geez, this video is right out of the 50's, judging by the film quality and horrible soundtrack. Like they shot the scenes through a potato. Just saw their website. Looks like a Wordpress blog. Just awful.

    Too bad you can't even get a kit plane version anymore, it died with the test pilot and then the owner of the company dying

    As far as I am aware (engineering student currently doing a course on aircraft certification) this is NOT TYPE CERTIFIED, in Canada anyway. It’s one of the “bad examples” that has been discussed several times so far

    Horrible voice-over lapses. Narration doesn't flow. Way too many pauses... pretty distracting. Entire video needs tightening up and better editing.

    Or you can visit with the repo man as he takes your aircraft away. Also they could have now manufactured this in carbon fiber and glass and saved you money time weight and strength. A rethink is in order.

    Isn't this plane long gone and forgotten? The last one I saw was rotting away on an aircraft ramp.

    • @seawind300c6
      @seawind300c6  6 років тому +5

      No we are not long gone and forgotten. Maybe the kit planes, which stop selling in the 90's. This is the newly redesigned plane, getting certified. And, we already have 40+ orders.

    Very dangerous. High thrust line creates all kinds of pitch/stall problems.

    • @andrewashmore8000
      @andrewashmore8000 2 роки тому

      Possibly , but on many other factors it's a ideal solution. Having the prop , in clear air is a major advantage for vibration reduction. Other designs the prop is chopping at high and low pressure air at the back of the wing where half the prop over the wing and half the prop disc under the wing. By having the prop further back means , can extend the useful space inside the cabin too. Having that high energy prop wash over the rudder and elevator must be great for control at low speeds.

    • @andrewashmore8000
      @andrewashmore8000 2 роки тому

      Also might be less likely to stall , with the prop creating a suction behind the wing perhaps keeping air flowing.
