- Sometime around my last week in the USAF taken originally from a rented video 8 cassette camera. Excuse the weird edits. Also every time I say Alpha jet it's actually a BAE Hawk. Every time you see a windsock notice how close to horizontal it is.
Came to Alconbury with the A-10's from Bentwaters in 88. Left in 91. Great times there! Nice video!!! Thanks
Which Squadron were you with? My old man was the 511th TFS Squadron Commander at the time. Lt. Col Mike "Irish" O'Connor. Small world man.
@@HalfUnder 10th CRS jet engine shop. Disassembled, inspected, repaired, and reassembled the TF39 engines. Did some work with the Hush House when they needed to test the engines after repairs and had to be there when they would bring an aircraft in to run!!! Good memories
Great nostalgic video Rob. We lived only 15 miles from Alconbury and our next door neighbours for a few years around 1999-2001 were an American couple (Len and Vicki) who became good friends. Len was an ex-USAF Master Sergeant and was then working at Alconbury as a civilan worker. We went to the base with them a number of times for things like the 4th of July celebrations. Good times.
If you came to this base between 9/89 and 9/91, I in-processed you when you came to the base. I went over your DD93 and SGLI insurance forms. I also processed any medals you might have gotten. Lots of good memories from this place.
Well you didn't in-process me at the time since I was a dependent but then you absolutely inprocessed my father. Was the Squadron Commander for the Vultures from 89-91. Literally had the change of command and fini flight within days of getting back from the desert.
Was stationed there from 90-92 with the 10th SPS. I don't recall any of the A-10s returning after they left in support of Desert Shield/Storm in late 1990. The TR-1s came back and then we picked up a AFSOC mission supporting MC-130s for a short period just prior to my leaving in summer of 92.
Was stationed there at the same time with the 95th Supply Sq
Grew up in Upton nearby, Loved watching the TR1s and A10s coming in to land over the garden...
I lived in Sawtry while I was stationed there.
@@genewilkerson8528 Great memories of the early 80s through to the 90s.. I remember the Phantoms and Canberras and they were replaced by the A10 and TR1..
Great video of a sorely missed base
The "Alpha Jets" were in fact (former, now retired) RAF Hawk T1A's, similar to the US Navy T34 Goshawk.
God the A-10 is such a gorgeous aircraft. It kills me that my medical issues held me back from joining the Air Force. Awesome video!
Went to school there at that time. Remember it well. Thanks for the video.
I was there at this time with the 95th recon supply sq
just delivered some sand and gravel to the runway today. Now a stock yard
Those are BAe Hawks, not Alpha Jets.
Stationed there at the same time
