I often hear them flying over my House. They've a sound witch i can almost compare with an AN12. But the AN12 has a deeper Sound of friendship, this is why i Love the AN12.
Sounds like a Power Transfer Unit, device that takes power from one hydraulic system and transfers it to 2nd one while keeping fluids separated - basically a hydraulic driven hydraulic pump :)

This stuff happens only on the Airbus A318, A319, A320 and A321.
Ein echter Weaner Wrong. The Q400 has a PTU as well.
Excatly - it turns on as a part of approach checklist and on takeoff.
@@einechterwiener6261 Q400s have them too and they can also be audible depending on what model it is during taxi
I can confirm it is the PTU.
One of the most annoying features of both the Q400 and the new C-Series/A220. Can't stand that noise!
That’s happened to me on a dash 8 before too, only once, but it was strange.
