Really love to vectorise the scrollwork projects in Affinity Designer on the iPad Pro with the Apple Pencil.. it makes it so much easier.. The Affinity software is really good!
Many thanks! :-) Keep in mind that normally it´s not necessary to draw in vector.. it was a client project. Normally just a normal drawing is good enough, depending a little what you want to do with it :-)
really nice work, I just paid for all the Affinity products and Designer is definately one I want to really focus learning. Are the strokes ends being done by pressure from the apple pen (not a MAC fanboy, but I have a similar draw-on monitor with pressure sensitivity} but have nothing against MACs, just was trained and worked for years in a graphic design shop that was PC-based, as rare as that might sound, if they do vinyl cutting, etc. it's the norm to use CorelDRAW or Illustrator for vector work - and used to love Fireworks for doing both, but was comfortable in Photoshop too. Affinity Designer looks like its "Da Bomb" thanks for showing a very good example of why I need to learn it, tracing old engraving and carving patterns from decades or centuries ago and recreating them via digital pad in Vector - PRICELESS.....grin.
Hi and congratulations! :-) I have the full Affinity pack too and their programs are awesome and I would even dare to say groundbreaking on iPad and Adobe was oversleeping big time.. Anyway, you can do both.. in this case the tapered strokes are set in the program and I adjust it all the time.. sometimes for every stroke just to get it right. When drawing in vector I don’t like to use pressure sensitive as it’s a little too sensitive.. probably something I can adjust, but haven’t looked into. Anyway I prefer the program adjustment of the lines.. If I’m drawing in raster/pixels I always use pressure sensitivity :-) Hope that helped som!
@@engraverhand (Marius) thanks for the clarification, I'll have to learn how that is adjusted, it gives such a nice natural and organic flow to the line, it looks as though it has some type of "lazy line" straightening too. just awesome, I can't wait to start tracing over dozens of old leather tooling designs which are so similar as well as creating line drawings of gothic, Tudor, Elizabethan and Jacobean woodcarving photos and creating modern carving and CNC patterns for the router, I can't carve with chisel much anymore, but can recreate them in clay and then scan with a 3D scanner - full on digital integration for the WIN!!!....lol.
@@kurtmelander5103 it’s called pressure if I remember correctly.. you can even add nodes to it and make any shape. In both ipad or desktop version you’ll find it in the same section where you adjust the thickness of the line.
@@engraverhand it's very cool, I know illustrator has similar line tools I'm familiar with, it's just going to have to take playing around with it and bring in some art to trace and have at it. I learn best with actual projects to make mistakes and discoveries on my own, which is the most memorable way for me to learn...even at 63 yrs old...grin.
Thank you :-) To be honest I really can´t remember, but I guess with every creative process sometimes it goes faster and sometimes it takes times to get it right.. What I usually spend most time on is to sketch or draw the main design. The actual vector does not take too much time, especially on the iPad where I can use the pencil.. of course the more complex the more time. Also it depends a little what I´m doing vector for.. if it´s for a laser design, I will have to think especially on the shading lines not getting too tight.. too tight will only make black holes or burn marks.. so the trick is to get the "good" space.. :-) Affinity Designer also has a pixel/raster drawing section which is good. :-)

@@engraverhandany basic version of cyberlink power director is simple once you know a few tricks. I think my carving a skull video took about 7 mouse clicks to make and has earned £1000's from add revenue. All engraving vids will earn a small income.

toomuchjam Yea I got Lumafusion a couple of months ago but didn’t got to use it much, but download again yesterday.. :-) It’s handy to do it all on the iPad :-)
Hi Jeremy, this is just one of the standard brushes, and I haven’t changed anything here.. but of course I will have to change the pressure all the time, the get the shape I want. :-) But nothing special about this brush..
It’s all from iPad with Apple Pencil. I use an iPad Pro 12,9.. the scrolls in the background is hand drawn in Procreate and the one in front is drawn in vector in Affinity Designer :-)

The way that the brush has a leader to keep it smooth is genius. I use illustrator a lot but haven't seen anything quite like that.

You mean cross hatching? If so I’ll try to record that on my next one.. I think there should be one, but now I can’t remember 100% :-)
