Agreed, nothing comes even close in terms of immersion and atmosphere, for me. The world felt more alive than any other RPG I've ever played. Luckily, these types of games seem to be returning in full force. Divinity: Original Sin isn't third person, but it's still very close in a lot of ways. And now Risen 3. Let's hope it's as awesome as we're hoping.
MrJenssen The best Atmosphere has Gothic 1. At least for me. :). But the best RPG was Risen 1. It was Gothic made the best. Only at the end ut was boring.
TheDownloader86 Risen 1 (on PC) was amazing in a lot of ways. Easily the best combat system and enemy AI of the series. But while Gothic 2 was exciting and had something new to offer the whole way through, Risen 1 became extremely bland during the last two acts. You had already explored the entire world, and all you did was backtrack through boring dungeons looking for arbitrary items. That ruined the overall experience, and bumped Risen 1 a few notches below Gothic 2.
I love Risen 1! I wish they added extra quests in later chapters instead the story alone. Some sidequests as in chapter 1 would be amazing. More reason to return to the bandit camp or harbor town
I played and loved all the games from Piranha bytes and i just can't wait for this to come out. It looks so good. I wish more third person rpgs like this would be made.
Indeed he did..that's going to leave a gaping hole...and wow is the main character powerful. The part that makes that scene though, is the sound effect swords are generally given. 1. *Stabbed through with Mace* 2. *Mace pulled back out* --shhhhccccchhiinnng
Except for Risen 2 I have played and very much enjoyed all Piranha Bytes games. I'll hope and pray for the best, expect the worst and await for August. Also is the music piece at 10:49 part of the game soundtrack, if so who is who is the composer if not what is it?
Not a huge fan of the fact that this one too is multiplatform. Let's hope you won't butcher Risen 3 because you had to make it for consoles too, like you did with Risen 2. I hope that the "back to the roots"-mentality actually is true, and not just a sales gimmick.
Medicborn House Let me tell you something. Gothic 1-3 weren't on consoles. These games weren't held back by aging console hardware and more simplistic control schemes. Gothic 3 was certainly held back by a terrible publisher with financial issues, but not for any console release. Now Risen 1 was developed for the PC first and foremost, with the console version being an afterthought. The two versions are VERY different, and while the PC version is a great game clearly made with love from the developers, the console version was a buggy, barely playable mess. It's simply not the same game. Go ahead and watch Angry Joe's review of Risen 1 on Xbox 360. If you've played the PC version, you would barely even recognize the game he's talking about here. Risen 2 on the other hand was equally developed on PC and Xbox. It was equally bad on both systems. And once again, Risen 3 comes out on PC and Xbox 360 AND the Playstation 3 all at once. In other words, it could turn out to be even worse than Risen 2! Worse control schemes, worse graphics, worse performance, a smaller world and all sorts of other things as a result of needing to consider the weaknesses and limitations of each of the three systems. Now I'm not saying Risen 3 will likely be a bad game, I'm just saying that the chances are even higher than for Risen 2. Piranha Bytes were never good at multiplatform development, as they have proven with the Risen series. So far, it has either been "we focus on one system and its version becomes great while the other system's version is terrible" or "we focus equally on both systems and it ends up being meh on both".
Didn't read all that , But risen 1 on PC and on xbox 360 are the same game. Only different is Graphics and controls everything pc version can do the xbox 360 version can do. Anyway I cant wait to play risen 3 on pc. The game loots really good. I know nothing of Gothic so cant comment on that. Anyway its the internet dont get mad bro.
Medicborn House I'm not mad, I'm just trying to lead a conversation. But hey, you're not willing. To sum things up, basically Risen 1 was a far inferior game on Xbox 360, because the PC version was shown all the love. Risen 2 was made with equal focus on all systems, and was equally flawed on all systems. Risen 3 is once again releases on all systems at once, so there is a chance that the game will not be great.
I'm a piranha bytes fan from their beginnings, i have been playing the gothic saga dozen of times and im still doing this. In regard to what i can see from the videos, i think this doesnt actually look like the gothics. I still cant see the dark, rotting world we are missing. This will probably be a very good game, but gothics had a very different charisma.
Prices don't make games any better or worse. A game could be really great and cost 200 dollars. Wouldn't make it a bad game, but It just wouldn't be worth it..
@@TheFlink9 Then no one would buy it. Game industries would be rich when they sell for reasonable price. Reasonable price, boosted sales = make sequels
Wow, this is like Skyrim on crack. 1st day buy for me. I would pre-order it, but only if there was an early access bonus for doing so. As it stands now there is no incentive to pre-order.
baxopoka98 He's not "saving" the world, Nilfgaard is just a big warmonger, and Wild Hunt certainly isn't something that's threatening the world (maybe they've mentioned something like that, but I hope it's just bad PR). If you're a fan of Witcher serious, by the way, I recommend books, not only they're great, but you'll get much better picture why witcher isn't about saving world or any such nonsense.
Lefiath I've played the games and I know the 1st two are mostly more complex than that. But the Hunt just seemed pretty evil in the Witcher 2... either way I wouldn't say the Witcher's setting is better in terms of generic-ness than Risen's (i guess it's about how well you pull it off more than anything). You should try the Gothic games, they're similar to Risen but the 1st one at least has a very unique setting. About the books, I thought they hadn't been properly translated to English yet?
baxopoka98 I'm lucky that in my country we got really amazing translation, and currently they shoud be available in english as well, from what I've heard at least first two (which are basically just collections of short stories about Geralt, and in my opinion, the best). I haven't played Gothic series, but as I've sayed, I've tried Risen 1 and it put me into sleep, even though I've really tried to like it. And trust me, witcher world is very complex, where other games deal with world saving by unknown hero number 1252, here you deal with politics, rasism, wars, monsters, but all portrayed very down to earth, nothing overblown.
Surely, they are aware of how horrible Risen 1 and 2 were/are. I mean, yes I agree 100% with the last sentiment about how RPG's should aim for the more classic, non-hand holding, non-casual bullshit style. And yes, I enjoyed Gothic 1 and 2 back in the day. But they are making LOTS of promises that I've heard MANY times before. And looking at their track record of unpolished, buggy, and down right unfinished games, I don't hold out a lot of hope for Risen 3. That said, I would LOOOVE to be wrong, and see Risen get the Two Worlds 2 treatment.
Hm, soul stolen, hand crafted world. Any other TES/ESO trademarks? Looks bit like hybrid between ESO, Skyrim and Gothic. Including lockpicking (anyone remembers how hard was lockpicking back in Gothic? .. I needed to write correct sequences on paper! .. was fun :). Does it look interesting? Yea a bit, but dunno.. I think for true hardcore RPGs, there is probably only way of creating these, which is crowdfunding. Currently there isnt option where you could create hardcore RPG and sell it well to masses. Masses wants their dumbed down console shtako. Not challenge..
Uh.. you realise Divinity Original Sin has been the top seller on Steam for the past 5-6 weeks right? I'd say that's a lot of people showing their love for non-homogenous RPGs without hand holding. Bring it on!
Pantheus Man, I have Divinity Original Sin since I backed it up. :D And unlike this, it doesnt try to rip off ideas from other games. Larian studios actually never did such things, they make pretty original games (which I love since original Divine Divinity). Gothic was awesome and original. This? Not-so-much.
Since when did TES have handcrafted worlds? They have so much procedural generation and cut/paste dungeons not to mention random itemization and enemy placement throughout the world. I'm not bagging them I love TES always will, but hand crafted worlds are not something they do. However, Gothic 1, 2, 3, Risen and Risen 2 have all had small handcrafted worlds with everything PLACED exactly where they wanted it.
You do know that Piranha Bytes games isn't about animation and graphics... And by the way, I don't see the problem here. The animation is decent. You should play Gothic 1 and 2 and you'll quickly forget about graphics that good are those games. Risen 3 is suppoused to be a back to the roots, all that was once good in Gothic and Risen, and that's very, VERY good news to us Gothic fans. Risen 2 was dull in that aspect and wasn't as fun as Risen 1... not to speak of earlier Gothic games from Piranha Bytes. (Arkania is not Gothic.)
Aren't there any women in this game?... I don't like giving my money to a company that doesn't even remember I exist. And don't give me "realistic" - nothing about these games is realistic.
You haven't played Piranha Bytes RPGs, have you? I am not sure about Risen series, but at least in Gothic the females are portrayed to their classic medieval roles. Housewives, maids, farmhands, whores and the like. Seeing a female knight, a dame is as rare occurrence in the game as it was in the real world back in the days... A complete myth.
If you don't like that then you should go play your Barbie videogames, honey. Males built everything around you. Females aren't capable to build anything than being in kitchen and work on clothes.

I actually really enjoyed what I played of Risen 2: Dark Waters - looking forward to this! :)
I was very skeptical at first, but this does actually look like Gothic 2. I may buy this game after all.
I have to confess, this game was incredibly fun. It's one of my favorites.
Did the Hero just use a sword animation with a mace? He shoved the mace slowly through the enemies body while giving his back to the enemy. xD
@5:03

No the mace critical hit animations where fine. The worst was the great scythe.
At the very begining it has a Risen 2 feeling, but very fast you will have again that nice old Risen 1/G2 feeling
I miss the Gothic 2 paladin armor sets...
I can't wait. I love Risen 1 and 2 was underrated!
Ghotic 1, 2 and 3 (yes even 3 after the patches) and Risen 1 are still the more immersive rpg I've ever played, Can't wait for this.
can't wait for it! been a long time fan of both the gothic and risen series!
look way better u guys have my preorder now
Just wow, Its looks like a like they took the best of both gothic and risen series. Pure fan pleasure!
I love how he say piranha Bytes with

Wow... I think you've got me on this one guys!!!

Bwahahaha best joke i've ever heard.
Sure as hell gonna buy it. Classic Gothic is coming back...and scavengers!

Music at 2:26 ?
This looks KickASS
it looks good and looks like they went back to Risen 1.
Very, very nice video. Let's hope the game can bring back at least some of Gothic 1's atmosphere and Gothic 2's gameplay!
This feels like gothic 3 HD, which is a very good thing :)
i loved Risen 1 AND Risen 2. So fuck yeah bring it on.
Something so zen-like about playing Risen games.. I really enjoy it.
Great game! Thank you, Piranha bytes.

Does the hero have a name this time?
Please... We're talking about piranha bytes...
Good point

Hmmm, big words for this game.I hope it's not going to be like Risen 2.

GOTY 2014 as the best open-world, dark-fantasy cRPG!^ Looks like now the Piranha Bytes rally care about the good old GOTHIC fans! :)
Can you play as a female?
no
I think I will need that god mode cheat in risen 2 for this game
Okey you conviced me :) preordered :) but remeber PB i hope this wont be Risen 2 :)
This should have been made for the ps4, xbox one and pc. Let the playstation 3 and 360 rest already.
