- In this video, I will show you how you can make a key just by looking at the car or van from one foot away. You can have your work van cleaned out or stolen because of a very simple thing thats often over looked. Car key Hack . Thieves can do this and have a key for your car, without you knowing so the car showing any signs
This is crazy. It's the equivalent of writing the combination to your safe on the front of it!

Don't know about other countries but in the UK you can easily get the VIN from the registration plate displayed on the front & back of the car. There are car parts sites & apps where you can look this up in seconds. Unfortunately you cant cover up your number plates.
In the US, state of New York: The vin is on the registration sticker that you must have visible. Ugh!
Lol that what I say 🤣 so you hide your vin and remove sticker then get fine for Removing sticker so put sticker back now vin on sticker is used to still your car so it keeps the insurance and state rolling with our 💰 🤑 💸
How about license plates. We are back into the same problem. Your vin can be extracted with your license plates.
I had a piece of paper get jammed, accidentally, in there, with my old vehicle. It was left in for a number of years, and nobody worried about it,even when it came to the MOT. There are a number of other places, where they are able to check the chassis number, so that is not a worry.
Thank you for watching the video. If I put in the smart chip PCB, is it just copied? If so, do you have to press the buttons one by one to copy? After all, you are copying a frequency, right?
Does this apply to all cars or just some? Do Toyota cars include?

Hey Dr Lock, what's your opinion of having the same key to open your security door and front door? Is it a good idea?
Its better for the user, one key to do 2 locks. Less cost on key cutting. Having different keys is good if you want to lock someone out that dose not have the screen key "if you don't normally lock it". When you lose your keys you will lose both anyway. SO I feel its ok. But many different ways to look at it, and it depends on the user, what they feel safer with. As far as lock picking, different keys will only slow down people that can't pick locks.
Just a quick realisation I've had while I'm just starting out learning about key cutting etc,,and having just bought my first good auto key cutter.
When I typed my personal car's key code into instacode it came up with the biting numbers,exactly the same biting numbers as my original key??Which surprised me from a newbie point of view.
Does this mean that say 100,000 of a particular model of car,and a certain year of manufacturer,many of these cars have identical looking keys,but security of the car is then reliant on your immobiliser if you get in the car door?
I think this 'must' have been relatively true as you can't make every single key for the same model of car 'look' differently cut?
If what I said is true,I take it that's why when I cut a key for my vauxhall vectra it didn't open the car door,but worked the ignition?Is the slight change in wafers between the door,ignition the manufacturers way of getting round my earlier point??
Every car has a different shaped key. You key code using instacode can reveal the key bitting "the cuts" getting the key code is the hard part
but it needs a pin for the transponder no ?
Other things I can suggest to mention are fitting slam locks and other visual deterrents like steeringwheel,clutch and gea stick locks too.

This doesn’t really solve anything though because you can just do a registration check with the plates and it tells you the VIN number anyway, and you don’t even have to walk up to the car you can get this information from a distance just driving past someone’s driveway.

Depending on state, but you can gather information enough to figure it out.
VIC and QLD both have the entire 17 digit VIN public.
SA and QLD give last 4 digits, but PPSR give the first 11. So only 2 digits to figure out.
I mean no disrespect, I’m subscribed because I’m interested in what you do, however I just figured I’d point out the fact this won’t stop anyone that is intelligent and motivated enough.
And as we both know there’s more than one way to accomplish this anyway, with or without the VIN.
I wrote a long essay on all the ways it could be done but I probably shouldn’t be making it easier for people. 😂
The simple fact is. There is no point covering the number, you can accuire all the same details from a standard hpi report. Vin numbers etc.
Fords etc are all available without hpi via ford etis site and many other manufacturors have similar. What you are doingvis pointless... if someone wants your car they will get it. Covering you visible vin makes your car appear like its stolen. There is a simple way around this! Buy old fassioned security locks or simply have your barrels changed from original oem , then the key number is useless!
Not being funny, but if your an auto locksmith... you dont seem very clued up at all. Everyone knows a dealer has access to a key number.... covering that in the window is the stupidest thing ive heard. How long does it take to get a key number and key made by dealers? Login or pincodes etc?
Do you not seriously think they cant access your vin number via a report? If they so desperatly want your specific car to order they are more organised than walking to the vehicle to manually jot down the number. You really are a bit of a thick person scaringvpeople needlessly into cutting bits of paper and covering up numbers in their windows. People who have friends and contacts in dealers.... do you truely believe they cant access your cars vin from your registration? Why do they need to go to your car window? You are a prize fool sir

Up in Queensland, a search on our REGO plates will yield the VIN. Super helpful for us, assisting customers, but super hard to protect against. If I can be within 30ft of your car, I can know all I need to.
Definitely recommend recombinating the mechanical key code of a vehicle in QLD, to close this loop.
I was about to make the same comment. Rekey the door lock is the best option.

I re keyed my car and van so this can’t happen I also put a key pad that requires a pin to start it
I think VSP-036 has our North American problems covered in his post. There seem to be little to no control on sales of
Locksmith specific tools, information and computer programs. Anyone with a valid credit card can purchase these
products and do whatever with them. I agree on the two biggest offenders listed. No one other than a locksmith or a
specialised government or police security agency need to have lock picks in their possession. We didn't used to have this
problem when I started business but since worldwide sales on the web, we have lost a lot of our control of what happens
in the retail sales of these items.
Maybe we can start selling full re-key on cars?

In Australia they don't look or check, but removable is best
I'm a second generation locksmith in the USA. Yes dealers can get key cutting code from vin. 1) Now most dealers purge these codes after 9-10 years. 2) Who really has a "friend" willing to risk his job / jail time to get this info? This is not as easy as you make is sound. 3) Now we're going to invest hundreds in a code to cuts program; Hundreds for a machine to cut the key; a week or more time for it to ship from overseas, and how much time to set up, calibrate learn how to use etc. 4) The knock-off auto programmers are a real crap-shot for working on the newer autos (see #1) I can go on; or a couple of bucks for centerpunch or brick smash out a window and just load up my trunk and run hopefully in less than 3 minutes.
This. The people you really need go worry about are full fledged automotive locksmiths that in are in gangs/mafia/organized crime. It is not some chucklehead that bought a key code on eBay, it is a locksmith with 10 years experience generating car keys thats making thousands of dollars delivering cars to a chop shop.
