You didn't even mention my favorite part of the expanison! The map wide meta events are a fair step up from most things in the core game. Pushing out from little outposts, getting to know the struggling survivors and helping them to get a footing against overwhelming odds in a hostile environment, and all of that in the open world and culminating in boss fights that get over 50 players together just feels awesome. And since it's all max level content with great rewards, it's all still super relevant, so people still run these metas all the time.
It's important to note the Living World episodes are free during their initial release (or during the "Return to..." event last year, when they offered each episode again once per week.) You only need to pay if you happened to miss them when they were free, and you can use in-game currency to trade for them as well. I think that's fair for a game that doesn't run on a subscription and has such an unintrusive cash shop, though it is a bit bothersome that they don't include the relevant LW seasons when you purchase their respective expansions. I can definitely understand some disappointment and confusion when a player gets to the expansion and realizes they're missing a chunk of the story. If people are spending that much, it's entirely because they choose to, which is certainly ideal to feeling forced to.
It should be noted that back when HoT launched, there was no raptor mount for every player. The jungle felt dangerous as you had to fight yourself through the enemies. But now you can easily run through. The exploration is still there and fun, but getting from A to B should be a lot easier nowadays.

The four stages I HATE in videogames, mostly because designers do not know how to deal with the emptiness or repetitive scenery (mostly on old games) is "snow, desert, aquatic and jungle". HoT and PoF is the proof of something done fantastic in design, and snow maps in GW2 are one of my favorite maps here. The art direction of GW2 is just outstanding, and HoT map design are the best in MMOs, yeah, a pain to traverse, but crazy good to explore and discover.
Heart of Thorns is to me the greatest expansion to a game I have ever played. They simply nailed it. Visuals are stunning. Mob design is amazing. Story is very good. Events are fun. New specializations, raids. It offered so much!
I started going back into HoT maps recently and I forgot how incredible they are. First you hate them, then you learn them, then you love them. Great videos! Please do Path of Fire.
hot cost them a lot of players and goodwill. i only bought pof because people claimed that it was "casual". i didnt even try the last one. i know it isnt for me.
Man HoT are designed maps that I thought I would never come across in MMOs. Most challenging, satisfying and best designed maps in the entire genre if you ask me. Pair it with Gliding, Mushrooms, Nuhoch Wallows and their related mastery upgrades and you have a unique experience.
@@CrystronHalq we can agree on the challenge and unique parts. i prolly spent a couple of 100 hours there, but it feels like years. maguma should had been a hardcore only zone, it will always drag the rest of the game down as long as they want everyone to do it
I expected the pocket raptors to come up, and I was entertained! Great video reviewing the game, giving out enough information to know what's needed! I like the fast style of transition from point to point, as they are not overloaded with information! Loving this series, keep it up!
I love seeing new players discover the game and having a great time. I've been playing for years but sometimes I forget how great the map/ environment/ building designs are after the story moves away from certain areas. HOT was an great map and the change in dialogue delivery made the experience feel a lot more involved and dynamic. The HOT maps can be a headache to navigate while avoiding pocket raptor and smoke scale ambushes. Hopefully you enjoy it enough to play the other living stories and the next POF expansion which have more incredible maps. Don't forget to try out the jumping puzzles.
As someone who has been on a long, extended hiatus from gw2, your videos on them really help re-ignite the nostalgia and drive to play the game again. They help bring back those early memories of my very first play through. Would love to see more and definitely would be interested in your takes on the PoF expansion. Keep up the good work!!
I don't even play GW2 but this was an amazing video. Loved the mix of comedy and seriousness and info. Keep em coming! Side Note: The design of the new zones reminds me a lot of the Ancient Forest from Monster Hunter World, where players also had a hard time traversing it. I feel it adds a sense of immersion since in reality it would be pretty hard making your way around these types of environments.
Ancient Forest is actually a good point. That is also really hard to get around in, but at least in MHW you don't need to wait for certain times of day to get to an area or be forced to beat a certain monster to craft a rope that gets you into another part of the area. When you get first thrown into the Ancient Forest proper, you can just go anywhere, spend as much time as you want, the enemies on the way aren't a big problem and the small traversal things are a fun bonus to find, rather than a requirement (the pterodactyls that get you high into the tree, for example).
Heart of Thorns is still my favorite expansion to this day. The maps are dense and full of hidden secrets and mysteries. Path of Fire's maps were big but sometimes felt empty.
PoF maps suffer from what I call "Newfound Traversal Syndrome" Their design doesn't simply take into account that a new movement option is introduced- it leans into said new option a bit _too_ much PoF and FFXIVs Heavensward expansions are my 2 go-to offenders
2 days in GW 2. The game just popped in in steam and I remembered I watched some videos years back. After 2 days I have sold all my dota hero skins and bought the first 2 expansions. I am so amazed I can't forgive myself I haven't played this gem. And here I was, crying I don't have what to play, that games don't have soul anymore. And this gem was sitting there, quiet, waiting for me. Wtf, it had what Wow lost years ago: soul. Also super video. You really put hard work in your vids. Cheers 🍻
Things have been hectic in real life so I haven't had much time to watch your videos. This was exactly the break I needed. A bit of fun and laughter go a long way and who better to deliver than Mr. Manix and Disco Gizmo? Nobody, that's who. Hope you're doing well, keep it up mate!
Glad to see to see you're continuing your journey into Tyria, your sense of humour is top notch. Heart of Thorns is my favourite expansion, especially the verticality of the areas, the meta events, the systems and mechanics introduced, and the soundtrack. Like Mukluk mentioned here, Fractals of the Mists existed way before Mythic/Mythic Plus in WoW, with the system being introduced in November 2012, just a few months after the game's release, and it's still being improved to this day. Have fun, Gizmo!
When HoT came out a lot of us forgot that the glided (At first) only worked on the Maguuma maps and glided to our deaths a lot of times! Fun times. Glad you enjoying this awesome mmo!
another banger of a video , I honestly love your style . specifically those moment where you lower the camera to show more of the environment . If you didn't get to do it yet , i really recommend doing Dragon Stand map wide meta , Its an epic fight and covers what the pact was doing while you were in the last story instance , and is visually my favorite open world fight in the game .
The jungle zone where the ruins are was simply beautiful. It had a great meta event as well. It left an impression, for sure. The last zone was a big meta event itself which was crazy. Heart of thorns did amazing things. I don't think what came next was as good and started to feel repetitive.
There are frequent hero point, vista, and mastery trains/groups on the LFG tool. Those commanders give a guided tour of the zone, unlocking all the hard to reach places. HoT specifically have these running all the times because of the verticality.
I have been playing GW2 for over 6 years and immensely enjoyed your coverage... YOu touched on all the complexity and beauty it has to offer, even the infamous pocket raptors!!!
Great video, love the cinematic shots! As a 10 year vet who hated (still do) Hot maps, it's really nice to see a fresh perspective on them. Think you nailed it when it comes to why they are frustrating for some. VB especially so.
Your first vid got me to try GW2 finally :). Having fun enough with it, but the .. interface and such still overwhelm me a bit. Only level 51 though and slowly working through!
Started watching these vids from the Steam page. loving the story of your journey, my friend. hope to see Gizmo in the sands of the Path of Fire and seeing him on a griffon one day.
i would love to see you showcase some of the many amazing world bosses this game has to offer, with such a wide variety of large scale fights spread throughout the world i feel it would make for a great video
Great video! A good combination of entertaining descriptions and humor, plus excellent video editing skills that show off the beauty of GW2's game environment artwork. I've been playing for almost 10 years and still have many achievements to look forward to completing, so I never tire of this great game. Sure, it's not perfect, and all games have their pros and cons, but for me, this is the best game experience I've ever encountered, and I hope that your videos will encourage more players to give GW2 a try and experience the fun that you have found with this game. As for the Living World episodes being walled off within the Gem Store, it should be noted that you can easily earn enough "In Game Gold" to pay for the Living World chapters, by converting gold to gems. Also, players who were active in the game during the initial release of all Living World chapters, received them for FREE, and again earlier this year, Arenanet offered all chapters of the Living World free to unlock, just by logging into the game once every couple weeks, over a several month period, with one chapter unlocked approx. every couple weeks. We don't know if these "Free" unlocks will happen again, but new players can also obtain every Living World season and chapter unlocked in a bundle purchase when they purchase the GW2 expansions on Steam, as one big package of all content (all 3 expansions and 10 years of Living World seasons) for the one time purchase price of $100. That may seem a steep price to pay for a game in which you can play all of the base game and the Living World Season 1 content for free, but when you step back and look at all of the content and new maps you are getting for that $100, including the 3 expansions, it's pennies per hour of enjoyment that you are paying, and IMHO, a great value for the money spent. P.S. You've progressed very quickly through the game. I was surprised to see you getting through the core game story and into HoT so fast, and then blown away that you appear to be crafting Ascended weapons and playing in Fractals and Raids so soon after discovering Guild Wars 2, yet you don't seem to be rushing through content without appreciating the beauty of this game. Congratz, and I've subscribed and look forward to Gizmo's further adventures.
Love your style of editing / commentary. Glad to see you're getting experience with things outside of the story and having a blast with them :) Looking forward to more of your adventures.
A quick note about the Living World episodes that you can buy to fill in the gaps between expansions: they are *free* to unlock just by logging in when they are first released. Even after the free unlock window closes, they still from time to time will offer them for free again. Last year they went through an entire "Return to" sequence, where each Living World episode was available for free for a week in turn. Not sure if they'll do something similar in the coming year with the flood of new Steam players, but keep an eye out. If you don't want to wait, the Season Packs in the gem store are cheaper than unlocking each one individually.
I actually re-downloaded the base game and jumped back into it after initially playing a bit when it launched. I jumped back in after your previous video and how well it was done. This one was just as good. Looking forward to Disco Gizmo's next adventure!
As a small light in the dark on the topic of living world arenanet not only has them on sale relatively often but even gives seasons out for free if you log in during certain events. In addition to this whenever new bits of living world content drops it is entirely free and you own it forever, so long as you log in during it's course.
Thank you so much for appreciating the first expansion like that! While it was my absolute favorite time in the game when HoT launched, I feel like it really didn't get the appreciation it deserved. I was low-key addicted to participating in the meta events, the "conquerous" character of which I've already enjoyed in the Silverwastes, and exploring all depths of the maps, where you literally could get lost. The mobs were challenging and still feel dangerous today, also loved the Elite-Specs and immersive implementation of the gliding.
I love seeing gizmo wielding a greatsword (which you even went out of your way to craft, good on you!) Definitely a good reminder of how beautiful the jungle is, made me want to revisit it real bar
I was eating while watching your video, and you made me spit my salad with that "boink" when you hit the tree with the updraft (something that I also did several times...). Very cool video and narration!
I genuinely enjoy content like this because it allows me to re-experience these areas for the first time by proxy of the uploader. As a Guild Wars 2 Veteran of 10 years it's quite hard to remember that feeling of seeing something new once you've seen it years ago. Continue to have fun my dude, as that's what it's about o7.
Heart of Thorns is still my favorite part of GW2, and I think you describe really well the experience of the maze-like jungle. HOWEVER. I think you, and most new players will never feel the full dread of Maguuma: traversing it on foot, without a mount to help you (Because mounts were added AFTER HoT).
Yesss, Im so excited to see Gizmo's journey continue! Path of Fire is my favorite of the expansions and Im super hyped to see what your experience with it is like and what you think about it!
First time I was playing HoT I made the mistake getting rushed through it because I wanted to catch up with my friends. Just recently I decided to finally play it again while taking my time.... Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn I have missed out soooo much back then. I really didn't expect to love it so much. Yes, it's way more difficult to play solo or at least with someone as clueless as yourself... but it's so immersive and engaging.
the story quest with a sylvari was really interesting for me. it was my first time playing and it was the reason i fell in love with HoT. no other game topped that experience yet. great videos btw they are reigniting my love for this game
Loving this journey! If you go to PoF, be sure to talk about how Living World season 3 is basically a full expansion, as are season 4 and 5 once you get there. they add multiple maps, meta events, and just vastly more to do!
I'm late to the video, but I just finished HoT and I'm so happy to hear other people articulate things that I was thinking the whole time. Subbed because of your gw2 content. Im officially a fan!
5:52 lol, that’s all Our guild stuff and throwing all those pies xD I’m glad our one second helps show much fun we have on this game ^^ I’m the one with all the green stuff to the left. It is a very good game, very well made ❤️
Stumbled across your video. Made me want to play again. I've not touched GW2 since launch, i got level 30 then stopped. - Great videos! Would love to know thoughts on starting again in 2022 and thoughts on classes/what to do first etc etc. Keep um coming! Subbed!
Pocket Raptors and Shadowscales are scarier than the big dinos. Been fun watching your streams when I can catch them. If you want even more Heart of Thorns fun, try going through it as a Sylvari... Mordy will mess with your head. Auric Basin meta is probably still my favorite to run since you can do any of the 4 sides at the end to spice it up. Path of Fire/Living World Season 3 really opens up the game though with all the mounts. You're in for some good times when you continue.
Really great review, your points are well thought out and explained - especially the living world seasons leaving gaps in the history: I felt the exact same way when I started HoT the first time. Also the introduction to the raptors was spot on!
I don't count on enthusiasm in PoF and EoD there is nothing to do in expansions after completing the story. The maps in HoT are full of players to this day and live in the two newest ones, not necessarily outside the specific hours for the event
I absolutely love Heart of Thorns! I agree for some people it must be very annoying and the sudden ramp up in difficulty can be a bit of a shock but for a somewhat casual player like myself that loves exploring and grouping up with random travelers on the fly to take on challenges around the map its absolutely perfect! After so many years I still forget how to reach certain hero challenges and finding myself getting lost exploring!
highly suggest you take a look at collections in the achievements panel. they'll start utilizing it as a kind of side quest panel to an extent in the following expansions(especially in eod) and the rewards can be quite good.
Love the vid!!! This is such a great vid to watch if you're looking to tying the game, or to have a good laugh as a existing player xD Good job on this one! Can't wait for the Path of Fire vid!!!
I’m one of the weirdos that has a CD code all the way back from release but never got into the game. I’ve been looking for a new mmo to play and everything about this game is so damn appealing! I can’t wait to jump back installing right now !
Great video! It's nice to see someone experiencing this expansion for the first time. Sure, the jungle can get confusing sometimes. But i still love those maps. I dropped a like in hoipe to see more of Gizmos journey in the future :) Also i love your outro music. The song of storms never disappoints :D
The best expansion they made, by far imo. It was such a breathe of fresh air to have elite spec and gliding, plus all the new systems. The meta events are incredible.
The thing with LW episodes are, firstly, if u log in the week that they are released, you get them for free. If u missed that, they give them away for free once a year or smth and even when ur not willing to wait for that or not willing to pay, you can just grind out the gold to exchange into gems and buy them from ingame currency alone. So i understand frustration from new players, but there are enough free workarounds to chose from so everyone that wants to play gets to play sooner or later. :)
The neat thing is that Sylvari players get a bit of custom plot (Some NPCs are wary of you, you hear Mordremoth in your head, stuff like that.) due to the plot of HoT.
Yeah it was fun as a sylvari player taking 3 silvaris to the final boss.

Dragon flight = copying the skyscale and the griffon with a few added dashes to make up for the weakneses ofd the WoW geography.
Stealing an idea requires artistic integrity. Copying an idea requires that the one doing it has none.
@@nielsjensen4185 your definition of stealing sounds more closer to inspired by or referencing from and making an existing style your own
The four stages I HATE in videogames, mostly because designers do not know how to deal with the emptiness or repetitive scenery (mostly on old games) is "snow, desert, aquatic and jungle".
Im excited to get there also after watching this, I hope he does a path of fire one too.
They're truly humbling when you're a hapless noob barging in with no masteries, no mentor, no spoilery know-how and just a raptor mount to your name.
hot cost them a lot of players and goodwill. i only bought pof because people claimed that it was "casual". i didnt even try the last one. i know it isnt for me.
Lovely follow up on your previous video! Keep it up, Gizmo seems the type of hero that may conquer it all.
The fact that MitchManix finished core game living world episodes and expansion just to make 2 videos is ridiculous. I can't wait for next one.
Yeah, the zones really showcase an already impenetrable jungle being made worse by the presence of an Elder Dragon.
0:29 - Every veteran of Gw2: "RUN YOU FOOL, RUUN!!"
I liked this vid very much, also glad to find another fellow exploration enjoyer
Great video, as a veteran i still enjoy these. You are definitely a talented youtuber and Im glad you are enjoying gw2:)
Heart of Thorns is still my favorite expansion to this day. The maps are dense and full of hidden secrets and mysteries.
Path of Fire's maps were big but sometimes felt empty.
HoT is my favorite too best maps and meta events. PoF or EoD is good too but meta events is not that good and many maps is empty.
the map design in HoT surpasses that of every other map in the game. though i have to admit, i hate traversing through tangled depths. that place...
@@andrevanas85 First time i was lost because so many ways and levels and underwater but events and meta is fun.
PoF maps suffer from what I call "Newfound Traversal Syndrome"
Their design doesn't simply take into account that a new movement option is introduced- it leans into said new option a bit _too_ much
PoF and FFXIVs Heavensward expansions are my 2 go-to offenders
Totally agree. PoF is so vast and flat it actually bored me, while HoT dense and convoluted landscapes draw me back every time.
Your videos are extremely high quality, I love it.
You do a better job showcasing the game than the game's company. They really need classes on marketing 101.
Love to hear it mate. Really appreciate that.
Your storytelling and editing is soo good and fun, great video
Ah... Yeah, I'm just now realizing that my keyboard wasn't broken.
another banger of a video , I honestly love your style . specifically those moment where you lower the camera to show more of the environment .
The Sonic tune every time a Roller Beatle goes by fits so perfect, you're a master.
Great vid, I’m always looking forward for more of your content.
There are frequent hero point, vista, and mastery trains/groups on the LFG tool. Those commanders give a guided tour of the zone, unlocking all the hard to reach places. HoT specifically have these running all the times because of the verticality.
Amazing, that Kevin bit though had me creasing! :'D
The meta events are also certainly a step above the base game as well. I enjoy the base game but I mainly come back to the HoT events.
Your editing and narration is godly! You could even make watching paint dry exciting.
Hope this video gets more love and brings even more players to the steam release!! Love your enthusiasm. Can't wait for more
Just wanted to say I think ur content is great, and I gave GW2 a shot largely because of your first video on the game :)
Keep up the good work.
Have to say, your Guildwars reviews are some of the best review video's i have ever seen
New sub, keep up the great work
Thank you. Really appreciate that. More to come.
i would love to see you showcase some of the many amazing world bosses this game has to offer, with such a wide variety of large scale fights spread throughout the world i feel it would make for a great video
These videos are so entertaining. Found your first GW video 3 weeks ago and have been waiting for the next part ever since. Great job!
I love this series! Please keep it going. GW2 is an amazing game and I love your style of storytelling.
I love seeing gizmo wielding a greatsword (which you even went out of your way to craft, good on you!)
Definitely a good reminder of how beautiful the jungle is, made me want to revisit it real bar
HOWEVER. I think you, and most new players will never feel the full dread of Maguuma: traversing it on foot, without a mount to help you (Because mounts were added AFTER HoT).
even 7 years later HoT zones are absolutely some of the most beautiful areas in any game ive ever played.
It's so cool to put highlight to this expansion, i always thought the map design is incredible ! Thanks for all the hard work !
Your editing is truly hilarious! Keep em coming! 😄
the story quest with a sylvari was really interesting for me. it was my first time playing and it was the reason i fell in love with HoT. no other game topped that experience yet. great videos btw they are reigniting my love for this game
lovely, another video to enjoy.
I absolutely adore your narration!
Loving this journey!
If you go to PoF, be sure to talk about how Living World season 3 is basically a full expansion, as are season 4 and 5 once you get there. they add multiple maps, meta events, and just vastly more to do!
HoT is indeed amazing, yet confusing map design :) And the main challenge in the game? Pocket raptors! :) Go Gizzi...
To this day I say that these maps are amazing exactly BECAUSE I still get lost years later.
@@evolutionground8946 I do agree ;)
I'm late to the video, but I just finished HoT and I'm so happy to hear other people articulate things that I was thinking the whole time. Subbed because of your gw2 content. Im officially a fan!
I am Asuran Guardian!
wow these videos are put together so well, really great stuff!
5:52 lol, that’s all Our guild stuff and throwing all those pies xD I’m glad our one second helps show much fun we have on this game ^^ I’m the one with all the green stuff to the left. It is a very good game, very well made ❤️
Loving the gw2 videos, amazing edditing and recordings
Stumbled across your video. Made me want to play again. I've not touched GW2 since launch, i got level 30 then stopped. - Great videos! Would love to know thoughts on starting again in 2022 and thoughts on classes/what to do first etc etc. Keep um coming! Subbed!
Thank you for covering this, can't wait for your view on PoF and Cantha : )!!
Really loving this series man. Disco gizmo, and his pilot behind the screen are quite a duo 🤣
Brilliant video as expected! Keep going. Can't wait for Gizmo's next adventure!!!
Really great review, your points are well thought out and explained - especially the living world seasons leaving gaps in the history: I felt the exact same way when I started HoT the first time.
Also the introduction to the raptors was spot on!
Your videos are so well done! Cant wait for the rest of expansions! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Fantastic video, Mitch!
Fingers crossed Gizmo will find himself in Path of Fire sometime in the future!
(#TM represent!)
I need a Path of Fire video right now!
Another amazing review/video. Can't wait to see what you think to POF and EOD now :D
Keep blasting Gizmo! We'll be here every step of the way!
Love the vid!!! This is such a great vid to watch if you're looking to tying the game, or to have a good laugh as a existing player xD Good job on this one! Can't wait for the Path of Fire vid!!!
Awesome video! I really like your close up shots.
I dropped a like in hoipe to see more of Gizmos journey in the future :)
Also i love your outro music. The song of storms never disappoints :D
Great video as always! Really looking forward to see you experience with the Path of Fire expansion and hydras ;D
3:50 “...using mushrooms to boost up higher...”
Well, that is what mushrooms are for. 😂
I absolutely love your format
Another phenomenal and ridiculously professional video. Come on guys, press the sub button, this dude just keeps on delivering. Love your work
The best expansion they made, by far imo. It was such a breathe of fresh air to have elite spec and gliding, plus all the new systems. The meta events are incredible.
You properly learned the terrors of pocket raptors. That was great :)
