Glad you included "steamies" and fries which is often forgotten by others discussing iconic Montreal foods. That being said, I've gone to the Greenspot and their version is not very good and their fries taste a little weird. Ironically you were just a few stores down from a much better version at New System BBQ. The best places for this are The Montreal Pool Room and the La Belle Province chain (especially the one at the corner of Ste. Catherine and St. Laurent).
Must try St Hubert, its a really popular chain restaurant in all of french Canada (eastern Ontario, Québec and New Brunswick) including Montréal. And i recommend their Hot Chicken (it is NOT what you think) also try their quarter chicken.
@@giseledubois6565 actually in Canada there is two kinds of garlic sauce, there is toum but the most pupolar is Aoli, its a sweeter kind of garlic sauce. We have many versions of Aoli and we love to dip pizza in it.

The Lebanese garlic sauce is called toum, its not mayo as there is no egg. It is an emulsion though that is why it is thick. It is just garlic, lemon juice, water salt and vegetable oil. I love this sauce. Cheers I miss eating in Montreal!!
As an Armenian we have many who come from Lebanon also. This is how I discovered Toum sauce. It is the best and most tasty garlic sauce in the world if prepared correctly.
I used to live in the Saint Henri district for many years. Restaurant Green was within walking distance from where I worked and I often went there for a quick lunch. As you mentioned, their hot dogs are delicious but so are their french fries and their smoked meat sandwiches! Glad you liked it!

Hey Trevor & Anna, looks like you had a wonderful and delicious visit to Montreal! Thanks for highlighting some neighbourhoods outside the downtown & old port areas. When I have visited for work, especially taking clients out I am guilty of sticking to those areas because they’re within walking distance from hotels / client offices. Like you I’ve stayed away from Schwartz’s, for smoked meat I’ve had an amazing sandwich at the Main (literally across the street) and my coworker strongly recommends Reubens, And yes Montreal pizza is excellent, Pizza il Focolaio at Phillips Square. I can’t wait to get back to Montreal again. Thanks for your videos and IG posts!
I'm 81 years old, and for 60 years, I have been addicted to the reasonably priced "Chalet BBQ" roast chicken and fries. I'm surprised you didn't mention it. This haven is located in NDG, which is west of downtown.
Great job! You were smart to avoid Schwartz -- it's not what it used to be. Lesters' is William Shatner's fav but there are many other good options as well.
Great video guys, and when it comes to Montreal food, that was just the tip of the iceberg 😊 As a born Montrealer now living near Moncton, you’ve made me both happy and home sick all at once 😂. By the way the hot dog bun is also steamed, that’s why it’s so soft.
You can get those garlic potatoes at Villa Medina in the food court of MicMac Mall. The sauce is Middle Eastern...kind of like mayo and some of the North American chain places actually add some mayo to tone down the strong garlic. Mezza also uses it but I like Villa Medina better.
I enjoy watching travel/food videos about Montreal, and yours was especially fun to watch because I not only knew all the places you visited, but I knew the side streets and parks where you were filming your consumption of said foods. Saint Henri has a growing food scene, and the parking lot you walked past after the donut is next to my favorite burrito place, Tejano. Boustan, while excellent, is a small chain and you probably would have enjoyed Sumac as an option, which was the next block over (on your way to Green Spot). As for hot dogs in Montreal, Decarie Hot Dog is my personal favorite, but that wasn't exactly within the walkiung routes you seemed to have planned out for the videos. Should you return to Montreal, Little Burgundy (Petite Bourgogne) has some fantastic BBQ (Boucan) and crepes (Spanel). There is also a boom in fried chicken options throughout the city. Verdun is another neighborhood you should consider for a walking and eating tour.
You should try Wilensky's sodas. I always go with a cherry cola, but there are different flavors. They make them with fruit syrup and soda . (Strawberry, pineapple, etc.)
Welcome to my city ! I recommend you try Diallo burger in ville-emard neiborhood. Very unique since 1927. I watched a few videos of your travel to nova Scotia because my wife and I are going to visit Halifax and Cabot trail next month !
Not a bad video. As others have stated glad you stepped out of downtown and the plateau. I have lived in St-Henri for 20+ years and it is ever changing. The spots you picked, were ... surprising, but good, with the exception of Boustans, I had an audible groan when I saw you stop there. SOOOOO much on Notre Dame. I mean you walked from Arthurs, to Boustans and somehow bypassed 3 amazing Taco spots, Bucky Roosters, le Kioko and Satay Brothers.... But all good, I guess taste comes into play, just happy St-Henri was on the map.
All of the places we visited were recommended by locals in Montreal. We can't get everything right remember as we're tourists after all. I think you enjoyed the video so thanks 😀 - Trevor
Wow guys the food really looked crazy good for sure. Had me drooling here in Cape Town!! I'm definitely bagel girl. I look forward to your future videos. Take care and enjoy your stay there.
I just started looking at your video. I lived in Montreal for 25 years and there were two famous bagel shops, St. Viateur and Fairmont. Both are excellent, but I prefer St. Viateur as it’s not as sweet. You said there is one in Halifax. I looked on line and I see only the original and a few around Montreal. Where is the one in Halifax? BTW, it’s pronounced Via Tour! Locals also go to Schwartz! As someone said, the medium fat is the way to go when ordering your smoke meat. Your Lester sandwich looked lean! The Montreal smoke meat is more like corn beef ( brisket), versus the pastrami type in NYC
So Lester's for smoked meat. I've never heard of it but I didn't grow up in downtown Mtl - I grew up in the suburbs so maybe that's why. And no, there probably wasn't any sauerkraut on your smoked meat Trevor, I think that's a New York thing to put it on their pastrami sandwiches. That maple dessert looked really good. Reminds of sugar pie which is a traditional Qc dessert...made from maple sugar and cream - yumm.
about as sweet as sugar pie- funny was raised on these, but now i just find them too sweet- though the cream would slightly cut it down and make it a bit easier. Pudding chômeur (literally unemployed pudding) was just a fast cheap things to make.
Hi guys just happened to fall on this vid. I am a born and bred Montrealer and like all the Greeks in this city heavily involved in the restaurant business in the city. A few comments about your tasting, yes lesters has been around for ever and it does supply many of rest of the restaurants in the city with smoked meat, however Lester's meat is factory made and not aged or smoked on the premises like Schwartz. Schwartz does taste different, it tends to be a little dryer and crumbles much more easily but it is more flavourful. If you come back I do recommend you try it so you can compare. Hot Dogs are good pretty much anywhere in the city but if you want to try the best, then you need to come back in the winter and go to a Habs game because bar none a Bell Centre hot dog is the best in the city. As an added bonus you get to watch a game in the best atmosphere in the NHL, mind you with the habs sucking so badly this year you may want to wait till next season lolll. Chris
Same, I’m doing the same thing. This is two years after your comment, but I’m watching this video while I relax my hotel before I go back out to eat some of these foods here in Montreal.
I'm from Montreal and loved the video, you covered most of the basic must eat foods for visitors in La Belle Province. Hope you guys visit again and make a part 2 to this video, you've only scratched the surface of great eats the city of Montreal has to offer. Cheers and stay safe. 👍
From Montreal, now living in France. Went back to Montreal for the summer last year and definitely went for a poutine at La Banquise, a special Wilensky, a few bagels for the road...and a Schwartz! Lester is fine too (I enjoy their poutine with smoked meat) but Schwartz has a smoked meat that has more fat, but is also more delicious in my view. You went for the classic fast food type of meal but Montreal also have plenty good "real" restaurants to offer. I have not tried all the sandwiches you tried in this video but in my view, Montreal's best sandwiches are at Olives&Gourmando. I am not making any specific recommendations as they are all delicious, so are all their pastries. Montreal is a multicultural city: my favorite place for brunch is "Byblos" an persian restaurant, their omelette à la feta is fantastic, the babaghanouj salad from "Damas" (syrian, as the name suggest), Le petit Alep (or its big brother the "Alep")...all so good! The gourmet québécois "Au pied de cochon" and so many more.
Sarei molto curiosa di avere delle recensioni sul cibo in Italia. Tutti i commenti sono molto positivi e parlano di cibo sublime, oltre ai crauti c'è qualche contorno di verdura?
@@suzannadannaTARDIS You didn't miss out on anything. I sweated in line for 35 mins all to eat in a packed small dinner where it felt like 95 degrees inside.
omg now you are in food heaven in Montreal. i grew up in Montreal and the food is to die for. 1 place you need to try for the real donnar is village grec again as in most places in Montreal where the food is amazing is small but so worth the trip for the donnar.
I would give you 9/10 in your picks. Boustan is not a Montreal institution. No matter where you go in Montreal, the smoked -meat sandwiches are good. There are so many hot-dog institutions also in Montreal, the Greenspot is one of them. Nice video!
Also... I love that you hang out in the alleys.. Montréal alleys are such a good hang.. I regularly eat fruits from the different plants that over hang in the alleys... that's a true Montréal experience.
@Valerie Daryl : Sour apples, grapes, blackberries, blueberries. I even came across hops! There was a program in my neighborhood where a local brewery gave hops rhizome to people to plant in their gardens, if they wanted, and collected the crops to make a beer with it.
@Valerie Daryl You go on the Plateau, or Little Italy, near marché Jean-Talon. Mile end is cool, but a bit more touristy. Forget Crescent, Old Montreal is nice but an afternoon at most. Check out Le Quartier Latin, St-Denis. And St-Laurent north of Sherbrooke. Parc LaFontaine and Parc Mansonneuve is nice for a Picnic. Also, it's a walking and bike city... enjoy your trip!!!

Being born and raised in Montreal, I have to say that the MAIN REASON why you were refered to Lester's is, I believe, out of jealousy. I'll explain : Schwartz's is the ORIGINAL Montreal smoked meat recipe, but since it's always full with a long waiting line outside, ALWAYS, people will recommend Lester's restaurant, because it is (at least in my opinion) the second best smoked meat in Montreal! The Schwartz's smoked meat is covered in a special blend of spices for a total of 8 to 10 days before being steamed almost a day and that's why the meat is so moist, soft and tender packed with loads of flavors!
I'm not a smoke meat person but Schwartz was a total tourist trap when I went. It was 75 degrees and humid out waited in a line for 40 mins all to sweat in packed place where it felt like 95 degrees. Not worth it in my opinion.
Dunn's on Decarie has great smoked meat too. And great strawberry cheesecake. You can also get tell glasses of black cherry soft drink from the fountain with free refills. Black cherry is the essential brink with smoke meat. You should also try the Orange Julep across the street. Great hot dogs, poutine, and much more. They are famous for their Orange Julep. A unique creamy orange drink. A must try.
'Poudding Chaumaure' (Unemployment Pudding) Also known as 'Pain Perdu' (Lost bread) .was an inexpensive dessert. Made from sweet bread with a sauce made from caramelized sugar, water and honey (or maple syrup if you can afford it).
Don't know where you got the steamed hot dog but we used to get them on "The main" St Lawerence street.....Steamed hot dog, fries (fresh cut) and a coke a cola...25 cents...guess that tells you my age lol
Great video guys! Montreal is a great city. Lots to see and do but most importantly EAT..lol I know you've visited Greece in the past(I'm greek canadian) there's lots of hidden gems in our city! Mr. Puffs for awesome loukoumades and freddo cappuccino! Elatos for really good gyros/souvlakis. For other great ethnic food try out ma poule mouillé for portuguese chicken and for a good burger try out Uniburger. Enjoy your stay!
Hey guys, loved that you love the Lebanese food, that’s an appetizer called Batata Harra, meaning chilly potatoes although it’s mostly not chilly. The white “sauce” is garlic made Lebanese way, mashed potatoes with garlic olive oil a bit of may sometimes and that’s it… You should really try the Lebanese food in Lebanon, way more authentic… tc

I'm 81 years old, and for 60 years, I have been addicted to the reasonably priced "Chalet BBQ" roast chicken and fries. I'm surprised you didn't mention it. This haven is located in NDG, which is west of downtown.
Welcome to Montreal! We're going to have to try that chicken schnitzel sandwich at Arthur's :)
OMG it was so so good! Let us know what you think 🤗 - Anna
Great job! You were smart to avoid Schwartz -- it's not what it used to be. Lesters' is William Shatner's fav but there are many other good options as well.
Nice video. I liked the Plantain Burger from Kwizinn Verdun
wonderful.video, great food, like your natural friendly style.Hope to move to canada 2023
Great video guys, and when it comes to Montreal food, that was just the tip of the iceberg 😊
As a born Montrealer now living near Moncton, you’ve made me both happy and home sick all at once 😂.
Oh good to know Sharon. Thanks for the tip - Trevor
Well that was a very yummy food video guys I got full watching!❤️
Thank you so much 🤗 - Anna
Hoping to get to Montreal next summer and can't wait to try some of these.
It's foodie heaven honestly. Get Ready! - Trevor
Thanks so much Paul. Appreciate the tips on where to go when we eventually come back - Trevor
I hope we're giving you some great ideas for NS Joel 😀 - Trevor
That donut place and Arthurs is 2 minutes walk from where i live,...good choice ;)
Wow guys the food really looked crazy good for sure. Had me drooling here in Cape Town!! I'm definitely bagel girl. I look forward to your future videos. Take care and enjoy your stay there.
We know you have some great food down there in Cape Town Wendy! YUM! Bagels FTW! - Trevor
We were told Lester's is the place to go by locals. It was delicious! - Anna
about as sweet as sugar pie- funny was raised on these, but now i just find them too sweet- though the cream would slightly cut it down and make it a bit easier. Pudding chômeur (literally unemployed pudding) was just a fast cheap things to make.
@@mremumerm never tried that maple dessert but definitely enjoyed sugar pie in Mtl several times but it's been years now since I've had it.
I must say you are beautiful, I was captivated by your rare beauty which made me send you a message
Happy you like guys her food will come anytime back in Montreal Montreal Quebec Canada
Wow! You guys did Montreal food tour justice! It all looked amazing! 😊~Cara
Thanks so much Cara! 😊 Such good food in Montreal - Anna
Wow amazing food tour guys, I live here and you made me wanna visit!
Chris
Love it! I am in Montreal and was just looking for this :D
We'll be back again for sure. We love Montreal 🤗 - Anna
But they didn't visit any La Belle Province branch....
@@B.-T. Lol...I wasn't talking about La Belle Province restaurants, I was talking about Quebec being known as La Belle Province. Don't get it twisted.
@@HabsFan1978 I know, I'm making a joke.
@@B.-T.it’s drunk food, not the shadow of what it once was.
I love schnitzel so will definitely try the sandwich.
You did make the perfect choice!
:)
The gourmet québécois "Au pied de cochon" and so many more.
watched you guys for one year now and really like your vlogs 👍🏻
Look at the size of this sandwich. it is huge. Nice food tour. Thanks
Sarei molto curiosa di avere delle recensioni sul cibo in Italia. Tutti i commenti sono molto positivi e parlano di cibo sublime, oltre ai crauti c'è qualche contorno di verdura?
Everything looks delicious 😋
So good! - Trevor
Comment to feed the algorythm! Also, I'm happy to see you enjoyed yourself in my hometown!
Going to be visiting Montréal for the first time and very excited and interested in all these places. Do you need cash or are cards excepted?
Hi from PEI. Nice job. As cities go, Montreal is a favorite.
Hello PEI 👋
Schwartz may be a tourist trap but it is by far the best, it has a special taste. Always order it Medium, never lean.
I still haven't been to Schwartz. Went to Dunn's twice last visit, it was SO good.
We will be sure to look that place up David. Thanks - Anna
Hi Anna and Trevor!
Everything looks absolutely delicious! 😋
Specially the donut 🍩 and the coconut milk mocha ice cream 🍨
Someone likes desserts I see! 😀 - Trevor
Unicone ice cream boutique, St denis street corner Roy.
Ube, mango, baklava and other great flavors. 😋
Is a bagel without cream cheese even a bagel?
I feel and bloated just watching this video. 😅
Montreal's food is so, so good! 💎✨👌
As a montrealer, great choices!
🥰
I would give you 9/10 in your picks. Boustan is not a Montreal institution. No matter where you go in Montreal, the smoked -meat sandwiches are good. There are so many hot-dog institutions also in Montreal, the Greenspot is one of them. Nice video!
Poutine has its own special gravy and La Banquise is the best place to try it! Boustan is tasty and those steamies are delish!
Good to know we made some great choices! - Trevor
I must say you are beautiful, I was captivated by your rare beauty which made me send you a message
God bless you and your family

@Valerie Daryl Ça me fait plaisir!!!
Noooooo, too late! Best to eat hot with lots of mustard before your bod knows what's hitting it! Glad I eloped too, hadn't heard of but definitely no Cape Breton pizza burger 🍔 for my guests, safe journey back guys, oh sorry you're gonna miss our bagels, tough break! Oh that "W" place closed on Mondays!
haha Cape Breton Pizza Burgers! I miss those delicious things Josee 😀 - Trevor
Enjoy the half moon a setting right now, following the sun 🌞 if you're still here/check out my weather network pics, if you've the app/it's free, look at local side, some of my pics do make it on popular and see my pics! Yesterday it was a roadside help turtle 🐢 here, yes look at Pointe Claire, Josée, those are my front and back yards! I'm a forest technician. So bon retour à la maison, yrs back visiting the old market there, where cruise ships dock (it's like looking at a wall of windows, 😝) I was asked wouldn't I like to have some breakfast pizza 🍕 😝 😝, made ready fresh there, omg is nothing sacred! My daughter works at Jean Talon Market, organic section, she's a biologist who has started her own mushroom 🍄 farm!
Another Awesome video if you get a chance visit old Quebec City it is Beautiful. :)
We'd luv to visit Quebec City at some point. It's on the list! - Anna
Honorable mention: Smoke Meat Pete's is up there too for best smoke meat in Montreal.
A must try.
Yeeeeeees LOVE this! Stay safe guys and enjoy, keep the videos coming!
Woohoo! Lots more videos on the way 🤗 - Anna
You two sure know how to make a guy hungry. Got to make a dash to the fridge now.
Enjoy your trip to Montreal.
Sorry for making you hungry haha - Trevor
'Poudding Chaumaure' (Unemployment Pudding) Also known as 'Pain Perdu' (Lost bread) .was an inexpensive dessert. Made from sweet bread with a sauce made from caramelized sugar, water and honey (or maple syrup if you can afford it).
pouding chômeur est encore meilleur.
Pain perdu is what French call Pouding au pain. Nothing to do with Pouding chômeur.
I love this foods, and your video!♥️🇧🇷
🤗
Don't know where you got the steamed hot dog but we used to get them on "The main" St Lawerence street.....Steamed hot dog, fries (fresh cut) and a coke a cola...25 cents...guess that tells you my age lol
Great video guys! Montreal is a great city. Lots to see and do but most importantly EAT..lol
I know you've visited Greece in the past(I'm greek canadian) there's lots of hidden gems in our city! Mr. Puffs for awesome loukoumades and freddo cappuccino! Elatos for really good gyros/souvlakis. For other great ethnic food try out ma poule mouillé for portuguese chicken and for a good burger try out Uniburger. Enjoy your stay!
We keep hearing about the portuguese chicken! We so need to try it next time. We have some great versions here in Halifax as well - Trevor
@@DelightfulTravellersand they have a great poutine too
Love u guys
I completely agree that Lester's is the best!
La Binerie is also legendary because it was featured in 1980s drama film Le Matou.
Hey guys, loved that you love the Lebanese food, that’s an appetizer called Batata Harra, meaning chilly potatoes although it’s mostly not chilly. The white “sauce” is garlic made Lebanese way, mashed potatoes with garlic olive oil a bit of may sometimes and that’s it…
You should really try the Lebanese food in Lebanon, way more authentic… tc
Hey there! The pudding chômeur, if you wanna pronouce it the way it's intended to be try: Pudding (Show-mer) like you would pronounce the name Homer but with a shhh sound before.
