  • this is a response to an 11-87 with a live shell stuck part way into the chamber and how I suggest it be opened. I recommended not removing the trigger group from the gun as it can create other issues if you are not familliar with the inner workings. This recomendation is done with the understanding that the gun is still out of battery and the disconnecter will not allowing the gun to fire. As always safety is the main concern. The firearm needs to always be pointed in a safe dirrection and you need to make your own decision as to if a certain procedure is safe and appropriate for your situation. I sometimes make something appear as if it is super simple. These skills have been developed over the last 30 years so make sure you are comfortable with a certain repair or take it to a professional who can assess the problem first hand.

    Hey I have a Special Purpose 12 ga 11/87.
1988 vintage . I bought it new. It still shoots fine , but now I cannot hand cycle shells in it.
I pull back on the bolt with a shell in the magazine and the bolt locks back. Then I have to push the button to release the bolt and finish loading to shell.
The shell does leave the magazine tube and is ready to load, but the bolt locks back.
Now I can shoot it and it feeds every round.
I’ve cleaned it well, replaced the mag spring and O ring with no effect to the problem.
No clue what’s going on here.

I have a 1187 supermagnum, i took it out duck and dove hunting this morning and encountered a failure. I took a shot at a duck and missed, but anyways i went to load a shell in the magazine and i look down and there is a live shell stuck between the bolt and the carrier.the bolt was completely closed with a shell chambered. I took the barrel off and somehow managed to get that shell unstuck between the bolt and the carrier latch. I assembled the gun and shot it and cycled without a single problem. I shot about 6 more rounds after that with no hiccups i came home and dissembled the gun and cleaned it and i was loading and unloading it to see if it will do it again. It did it one more time the same thing as before, this time i had to take the trigger assembly out. Could it be the shell latch that you press to get the bolt out of the gun when disassembling? It does feel way to loose when i press it. After i assembled the gun again i practiced unloading and loading it again and this time it was fine.

what shells are you shooting? More than likely they are to light to reliably cycle the gun. The supermag may claim to shoot everything but realistically they need a heavy load, manually cycling the gun may or may not be an indication of anything because it does not replicate the function of the gun when it is fired.

@@hillsgun this is the first time i ever had a hiccup while shooting it, the specific shell it jammed on was winchesters, but i shot fiocchi, remington 3.5” supersonic shells and the winchesters all day without a problem until the failure happened.

Hey I love the vid btw! Can you help me? I have a Remington 11 87 police 12g and it will not cycle 2 3/4 federal slugs for some reason. It gets stuck half and doesnt pull the next round completely up. Please help!

I have to manually pull the charging handle back to clear the live shell and let the next one in. Then it shoots the 1 round, then it happens again

Two problems one is the nature of the gun, and one is the operator. Don't take offense as I have seen it quite often. First it being a is a 3" gun they often don't like 2 3/4" shells so make sure it is clean which may help . The 2 3/4" slugs should have lots of oomph to cycle even if it is dirty so that is probably not the problem. 2; The slugs usually kick the crap out of you which very quickly makes you not want to be tight against the stock so you may be not pulling it tight to your shoulder and cheek . The gun is short cycling, probably because of one of the above. If you are of smaller stature the problem is more pronounced. I would take it back out and when you test it make sure you have locked it tight into your shoulder and lean into it so you have control of the gun and I suspect that may cure the problem.
