Thank you for this. This jam occurred to me this afternoon while shooting trap. I had seen your video and when I got home I applied your 'fix' and this was very satisfactory. The tab was quite firm and it took a small needlenose plier to apply the bend to the tab. Remington should put a sort of kerb to the edge of the release to prevent the tab from sliding off. Actually I was stunned at the lack of what I would call quality. None of these parts are milled. Accounts for the under $ 1000.00 cost
Great video. After watching fixed my 1100 without taking the trigger group out. Just bent that piece of metal as u did. Works great thanks for the quick fix!
I had the same problem after performing disassembly and then re-assembling the carrier. Must have bent that carrier latch. I found your video very useful. It is great to be living during the time of UA-cam DIY repair!
Much appreciated, got this gun as a 12yr. Old from my father, it developed this prob shortly after, I did figure out the reach in to release but never went further, glad to have it working as it should now. (. 44 yrs. old now)
you tube has the answer for everything ,, your video was great very i nearly had the same problem except my PUSH was un-hooking it self from the carrier after watching ur video and STARING at the workings of the push and carrier i figured out the latch pin holding the push must of some how gotten a little bent ,locked it in the fully open position and tapped it carefully back , i emailed Remington wit the serial no it my first gun and they told me it was made 1982 too still in great nick,IRELAND
Mars952.....many thanks - same problem on mine and turned into a 5 minute fix thanks to your video. Mine did demonstrate more inherent side to side motion in the lever which caused the issue..
The bolt action can also lock up due to the carrier release being bent forward. Pulling the trigger while the trigger group is not in the receiver causes the hammer to whack the carrier release, bending it forward. So - #1 - don't pull a cocked trigger on the trigger group if it's not in the gun, and #2 - be prepared bend it forward a bit with small pliers, if you're caught in the field (trap field, skeet field, actual hunting field) with a locked action.
Had the same issue with the 11-87, I intended to bend that little piece too. However, I sent it into Remington since it's covered under my warranty. I think remington needs to put some curb on there to keep that from sliding off the carrier release.
You are welcome. The carrier latch sticking is a more common problem than I thought. The Remington 1100 is an excellent gun but I guess that since there are several million of them out there it is not surprising that a few should malfunction.
Good video , wish you could have done a real close up when you were doing the jiggle check part in action, as to see how it was malfunctioning close up, but good job
@waslig13 I think that when you say that your chamber is open you are saying that your bolt is in the locked open position. Without seeing your gun I would guess that the tap on the carrier button is not quite in the correct position. Try bending the tab a little more toward the center of the gun.
This is very interesting...I bought a 1978 100 12 ga the other day, like yours its not used a lot. A friend said there was some back flash in the chamber as my son was shooting ( rapidly) I thought that was normal, but thought about it again and remembered it was pretty dry of oil, and the guy lubed it for me, (seller) so I'm figuring it wasn't lubed enough? maybe gas ports are clogged? still new to me, I'm used to shooting a 870 pump. thanks!
Hi, I've been given an 11/87 that has the bolt locked back and the feeding ramp appears jammed. Is it likely to be a similar issue do you think? I'm a total shotgun-noob but I'd be confident of taking it to bits for a go at it before turning up a gunsmiths with a bag of bits and an apologetic "please sort this out" face. Thank you.
@Mars1952 - Just wanted to say thanks for this Vid. Great Help! I have the same problem with my 1100. Can't wait to go home and fix it....so annoying when it catches\sticks!!!!! Especially when I am shooting Sporting clays.
Anyone have any insight as to which part would prevent my bolt from locking back (Remington 1100 Magnum)? I've had the gun apart, cleaned, and inspected it and no luck. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Question, what happens when two shells are coming out at the same time? Back to back. I'm having this issue on my Remington Wingmaster and can't figure out why two shells are coming out at the same time. I'm loading two dummy shells and when rack the slide to chamber 1 in the tube, both dummy shells are coming out???? anyway Answers??
I am not familiar with the workings of the 870 but I would guess that part that hold the shell in the magazine is worn or broken. On the 1100 that part is the feed latch.
I' m not a firm believer of.bending or repositioning gun components as for a fast fix. There's a reason why your shell latch release was not working correctly, bending is certainly not the fix, replace with a new unit, by bending you will have the same proplems, again. Be smart and safe just replace the latch release, it's not. That expensive .
I agree. Not getting to the root of the problem. Even if you are "bending" something back to where it should be, how did it get bent in the first place and how do you know it is not going to happen again.
That's not a fix, bending the carrier latch. All that you have done is create more problems for yourself, by bending the latch assembly inward, you will eventually lock up the arm assembly, also now you have created chrome flaking around the inside of the latch, and trigger assembly, just creating more problems down the line. Correct procedure would be replacement. Brownell's replacement costs $14.50 plus shipping. It's certainly impossible that it left the Remington quality control that way. It's something you did, that caused the misalignment. Replace with new parts, quit making half ass repairs.

Wow. I’ve had this issue for 20 years. Thank you Sir.

Check the hinge/roll pin too. They bend easy and gets it out of alignment. Can cause this.

Thanks ive had the same problem for 5 years

Great video. This is exactly what my carrier latch was doing. This is the fix. Thank you very much for this video. Latch is working great now.
Easy fix.
Simple mechanism help a lot .
Are spare parts avaible like for a car ?
nice orchid !
Thanks bro, I disassembled my 1187 to clean it & all the sudden release button didn’t work.. I’m good now tho !!
Be very careful putting the trigger group back in. That can cause the problem.

I love Ireland and I hope to visit there again.

I have never had this problem with my 1100. but if it ever occurs I will know how to deal with it. thanks!
thank you sir I'll give it a try, my 1187 does the same thing
My gun smith will love this video
Thanks for that video - just developed the same problem and found this fix!
Does the latch still lock up even after it's been broken in? I took mine apart bran new and softly filed in down a bit. Good to go.
mine one of the arms on the carrier latch was broke was hopeing to view a disassembly of the trigger assembly
@angryadrien Well the lighting was good and she is out of town. Don't tell her!....
The real problem here is to much end - play on the carrier release pin .030 would be max. bending tab could break the small 1/32" pin (shims?)
True American - from across the pond

@FunJr Thanks. The first thing I do when something needs fixed is do a google search.
I just figured this out yesterday. Lol exactly the way you said it

Have a question.. have a browning b2000 and need to know how to remove carrier release pin
@Skunkpu You are welcome.
@service1956 The shells in this video were live.

+Red October shell stop probably needs to be timed
Left shell latch not holding second round, replace costs about $17.50 Brownels.
Do you know how to replace the interceptor latch spring on the 1100 ?
My 20g bolt does not open what is wrong with it?
You are welcome.
@michaelovitch I not only have spare parts I have spare cars!
I have a left handed 1100 that won’t cycle. Took toa so called Gun Smith and he didn’t have a clue.
I would have to look it up.
Thanks.
does your wife know you're fixin' guns on her counter? :) haha
why did u care if he was putting live rounds in ,it didnt matter to me at all,not my roof.lol
I sure did not like the idea of him loading what looked like a live round in the kitchen of his house!! Even though it did not load into the chamber.
Rumn
