Lol also any recommendations for where to go to practice and begin skating outdoors? In the US maybe it’s due to liability but most places won’t let you skate, including parking lots etc. Rinks can get costly and aren’t open every day but I want a dedicated place to get my practice time in every day if possible. I tried a skate park and aside from the ramps there was no space to really roller skate🤔
Can I just say you’re amazing! I’m a newbie skater (my second week), and I have watched so many videos, Found you today, and yours are the best ! I feel comforted when I listen to you, you’re an amazing teacher
Never mind! I am 55 and I am in my third week. It is never too late. Marilyn’s tutorials are the best for me so far. I tried others and I am very happy that I found this channel today. Keep rolling! 👍😁
Omg you have given me so much faith. I tried outside for the first time after 3 times on my skates and i can’t even move. This video and you all are giving me confidence xxx
Fast feet! and the importance of staggering your stance for beginners. There are parts of my neighborhood ("paved") that are nearly unskateable. Fast feet help. Staggering helps when I am going fast down hill and hit a rock, crack, metal cover. Instead of falling, my staggered feet help keep me upright.
Binging your videos again on a cold day here, and just wanted to drop a comment and let you know how much I appreciate your videos. You are an incredible teacher. I've been sharing your videos with anyone I can. Looking forward to seeing your channel grow. Thank you! 🖤🖤💕
I’m watching all these videos now and i dont even have roller skates 😂 there’s like nowhere in my area with flat ground so I guess I’m going to learn to get around on roller skates to get somewhere more flat 😂 thanks for this it really helped.... I think, because I can’t try it yet... that brings me to my question, where do I buy rollerskates? I don’t want the wheels to whare down when I do go on rough surfaces too
Thank you! your videos are so clear for beginners :) is it normal to have some lower back pain before you get the strength up when beginning/aren't used to skating yet? x
@@ElsieXD11squats and planks too! if you can hold a squat for 2 minutes (slowly work up to it) you can theoretically last in a derby bout (my team/ruleset has bouts being 2 minutes)
I bought two pairs of Skates this year...Impala rose gold 119.00 USD and Roller Derby (Target) 59.00 USD. I can't even skate with the Impalas, my feet are too wide, they KILL my feet. I've been skating just fine outside with the cheaper Roller Derby Skates, put them on (surprisingly fit great) and I've been skating on concrete for two weeks just fine. Just an FYI on that Roller Derby brand, not bad at all, and more affordable!
Hi I skated inside 3 times and grew in confidence. Tonight, I tried outside and I couldn’t even get moving on my skates without wobbling. I’m a complete beginner. Do you have any tips to help my nerves?

Hi! I really enjoy your vids! I live in the Netherlands, where some roads are "tiled" in stead of concrete or asphalt. Do you have any advice to go through these roads? They sometimes cannot be avoided to get where I want to go and they demotivate me to go skating outside.. :(
Hello! I just got some second hand Rio roller skates and I tried them outside- it was really scary and whenever I tried to push forward it felt like the skates were slipping from underneath my feat is that because they are indoor wheels would buying different wheels help? Or is it just me being a first time skater?
From what i know RIO skates are out door skates, Maybe they don't fit you correctly? Its so Hard to know with out seeing you or the skates. if you are a first time skater and your on a bumpy surface, it will be very hard.
My problem is I’m from England and most of the roads and pathways here are so wonky I’ve fallen a million times! There’s no open skate parks near me and it’s hard for me to find anywhere to actually skate :( plus we don’t have skating rinks here and my parents don’t let me skate indoors 🤷♀️ do you have any advice?? 🙏
My question would be - what are my goals? You need to find places to skate safely first. Make that happen. Then set more goals, You can't control the paths, so find a different place to skate.
I have sort of the same in the Netherlands. Half of the roads are small stones/bricks and the other half are pretty busy with cars and bikes, both of which terrifiy me, haha! But I've found a local regular park with good asphalt and the parking lot at the local universities are empty in the weekends which makes those accessible also. I'm still looking for a place to skate indoors though. No rinks around here and I'd like to keep on skating during the winter.
HELLO! I can't say over the internet what is safe for you. What brand are the wheels? If this is your first time on skates, Get to know them by doing some inside work. Even just standing in your skates is a good start. But again I'm not sure of your starting point.
I live in the Netherlands and skating rinks aren't rly a big thing here so if I want to skate it has to be outside. So I was skating on a particular parking lot which was after quite empty at the end of the day. I skated there almost every week. So I'm skating and tried to jump at a faster pace I usually jump at. The landing was wobly so I squated down as deep as I could until I just slid on the concrete with my butt. Suddenly from the other side of the parking lot I hear a girl laughing and scream "lekker voor je" which essentially means "good for you". She was practically screaming PICK ME PICKE to the group of men around her; all chugging energy drink and smoking cigarettes.

Thanks for this. I will definitely remember to stay low! I'm in the UK so lots of hills. Think I will practise on a big empty carpark maybe
Best of luck! 😍
Likewise, in the UK we have surprisingly little space to practice skating.
Life is definitely better on skates
👏👏👏👏👏
Unless you’re me and you feel like falling 24-7😔👎👊

So useful, thank you. No other video has emphasized bending knees as much outdoors so thanks for that! Music definitely helps me too.
