The people didn't decide this time, the last time, or any other time. It's people that fund the party that choose. Megadonors choose, then the media crafts the narrative according to that. People vote according to what the media pushes.
If megadonors want Biden out, they will get him out at the convention, if not sooner.
The DNC has a bad habit of sidelining candidates they don't like, either because they're too liberal for their donors or too radical for "the base" economically. They more or less told everyone to stand aside this primary season to the point where Biden was the only pick on many primary forms. You had a choice of Biden or Not Committed and the second one was just a false choice and a protest vote at best.
If anything, the days of smoke filled backrooms making the decisions completely as opposed to them faking a choice with primary elections were better. We got all our good presidents that way and at least we wouldn't have ourselves to blame for this mess.
How about the Republican et al "people" that wanted to decide *their* nominee for the primaries and General election, but the Dems violated the Constitution so hard to try to illegally keep President Trump off of our very ballots! Dems didn't respect "democracy" or our Republic a bit there, for the 'rest of America' did they. They were too busy trying to disenfranchise OUR ballots, OUR votes, OUR choice. The Dems crammed in Obama in 2008, gave him delegates in Michigan when his name wasn't even on the primary ballot. In 2016 they crammed in Hillary over Bernie.
