Fun Fact about the Tarkan: their biggest nerf was going from HD to Definitive, when they had the "thwump" sound removed from their attack.
T90 smurf account confirmed
I always wondered what weapon they used
@@eighty2018 A torch, which explains the damage vs buildings.
I miss the "thwump" so bad
It's a buff because now the enemy can't hear them!
Obviously the teutonic knights can walk faster than their animation, but they always need to look cool so they can only go full speed when the ram is covering them.
That make sense! 🤔
Or the momentum of ram wheels give them a little boost
@@daotrongkhanh1205 They can lean on the ram, taking the weight of their armor off of themselves!
My favorite is using rams to make them go faster. … using a ram to make a unique unit faster; now we’re cooking with fire!
Edit; spirit talked about it. Haha. Good call.
Well... it was a german, therefore a teuton, who invented the car...
Here is another fun fact about Teutonic Knights for you:
In the german version of the Game they are called "Deutschritter". "Deutsch" literally just means "german" in german.
Damn, I always thought the Woad Raiders yelled POGOOO, because they are enthusiastic pogo jumpers...
😂
Me too! They fit perfectly into a hardcore rock party as well!
I alway said instead Co Go
That or Spanish speaking metalheads, raring to go to the moshpit.
I thought they said go goooo
Elephant fact: Elephants are highly social animals and are known to cuddle with members of their herd. It is not surprising that they can get close to each other if needed.
Aww, thats so cute!
Cockroaches do that too. In fact human beings are hyper social animals and no other animal needs company as much as we do.
I love elephants
Thank you for being the Elephant Fact.
2 consecutive videos covering elephants, with no elephant facts. SotL is losing it. 🐘
The throwing axeman is actually a Rayman. That's how he has 'infinity' axes. It's not that he has a lot of them, it's that his hand comes back with the axe so he can throw it once more.
Rams setting farms on fire makes perfect sense: farms are made from wood, rams are made from wood (and gold). Start a fire by friction heat from the wood.
That or the farms are a secret front for the hay they use on Flaming Camels.
My bad for thinking a farm was made of soil
@@tenhayz1889 an honest mistake
Ooh ratha converted ratha with recurve bow sounds pretty good
Turks (+20 HP) and Japanese (+2 vs archers) are also very good
6:45 Having made four new civs for a mod, I can confirm that there are technical reasons.
The buildings are tied to the civ, not the unit, and to enable Donjons for other civs would require disabling their tower line.
Thanks for the information.
It would be interesting if after being converted they would be capable of building towers.
All infantry should be able to build walls and towers imo. That's what an army does when it's not fighting.
@@nicholase2868 Like AoE IV Delhi Sultanate?
What kind of civs did you make?
Elite Rattan with armor have 10 PA; they take 1 dmg from arbs, CA, and only 2 from powerhouse CA like Magyar HCA or Elite Mangudai. It's like Elite Huskarl: gaining the extra 2 armor is critical in a lot of matchups. Then again, Vietnamese have Imp Skirm, so they aren't hurting in that department.
With the olympics coming up, why was I expecting a Tuetonic Knight fact to be about how that one knight did not cheat in the last AoE Olympics.
There was nothing wrong with that run, I swear.
Here is one unique fact for every one unique Spirit of the Law:
1. Spirit of the Law is objectively one of the most awesome guys on UA-cam.
how embarrassing.
You need to list all his side gigs ;p
he made the intro song himself
Now that you're talking about the cogo battlecry, the spanish have literally the same in game. One of the quotes is "¡Guerra!" that translates to "War!". They also say "¡A ellos!", which roughly means "Have at thee!". But the most interesting one by far is "¡Santiago!". Santiago is a very famous city of spain. This battle cry comes from "¡Santiago y cierra, España!", that is something the christians would shout during La Reconquista when facing the moors. It has multiple possible meanings: cierra could mean to get closer to the enemy or to hold ranks and not run away from them, while the españa part is mostly who the battlecry was shout at, the spanish troops. This battlecry has appeared in various comics and stories, like in alatriste, and capitán trueno.
You missed the xotol warrior!! lol
Great stuff love your videos!
Turtle Ships actually deal friendly fire, something not many people know, but you need to be careful when attacking docks, not to get too close to it with ships.
The Woad Raider is just a massive Sabaton fan I guess.
They basically yell: Waaagh! everytime
Yes! I finally got an answer to my previously asked question about which units count as light cavalry in terms of the Hindustani team bonus! Thank you! I had a suspicion about the steppe lancer and the shrivamsha rider. I'm surprised that of the unique units only the magyar huszar is included.
most uu melee cav is a knight/pala replacement or specialist
Just like uu inf is usually champion or specialist
I mean, you dont want your special unit to be an expensive trash unit
0:15 1:34 I guess you should also mention that Magyar Huszars' spear are like x1.5 longer than Steppe Lancer and still didn't get that extra range
But also the steppe lancers has too much range, considering it attacks the air in front of the target, in my own mod i set all steppe lancers and spear lines a 0.75 range, the eagle line a 0.4 range and the kamayuk a 0.95 range, because having 1 full range make them able to attack enemies behind the wall
8:52 I mean, you can push a skateboard faster than you can walk as well. Rams have wheels too. :P
I just love how detail the game is in several occasions; that elephant icon on the ship is hillarious
At some point Age of Empires 2 could fill up and even start a class because of its many intricate mechanics and details.
Age of Empires 2 101: How to Drush.
I never even noticed the Samurai seppuku was gone in DE. That's horrific, they need to bring it back.
The samurai should get that animation back it looks epic
Unfortunately, we live in a world where Western game devs are politically and socially correct to a fault. They’re afraid of a bunch of losers who don’t even play the games they complain about. It’s wild stuff.
@@tiestofalljaysOmg, do you happen to find woke conspiracies everywhere you look? What if the devs changed it just because it didn't make sense to commit harakiri when the samurai was obviously killed in combat? Not everything is about your culture wars.
@@MartinAndor I have to agree. It's _a bit_ silly of them to commit seppuku for the dishonor of... _dying_ ? Even putting basic logic aside, dying in battle for the glory of their lord is pretty darn high in terms of honorable deaths for a samurai.
It _might_ make sense to play the animation if you delete them manually, though.
@@tiestofalljaysOf course you do have a specific example of someone complaining that the old animation was not politically acceptable and a dev saying they changed it for that reason, otherwise you would be talking out of your ***, which is something you would never do
@@tenhayz1889 Have you been living under a rock these last 7 years or so?
spirit the fact about tarkans being too strong anti building unit really have some historical emphasis it was well-known in history that when they invade they use the fire torch to incinerate camps tints and houses
They're basically the light cavalry version of rams
Great video, as usual! I made a video about the Ratha's quirk (and something similar for the Warrior Priest) a few months ago, but that's my favorite on this list.
I like how strong the Throwing Axeman is to not only throw his large double-bit battle axe, but carry so many while being able to move at a good pace.
Samurai should get there removed death animation back, but only use them, when they die to the effect of heresy. Even tough the Japanese don't get heresy. That would be a fun secret.
Or just when the unit is deleted by their owner
@@solsunman383 I was about to say this, too.
I'm not sure the game even supports different circumstance-based death animations, but it would be well worth in this case.
I thought that the Woad Raiders yelled "Go Go" because how fast they are 😀
Yeah same 11
Thank you so much for the subtitles.
Love these fun fact videos! 💯
So Woad Raiders cosplay as 40k's Orkz, good to know 🤔
Yhea, zo even if they are umies, we will chop 'em
how can teutonic knight push the ram faster than they can walk? well they are not pushing the ram, they are manually powering an engine inside which drives the ram forward.
Wait, the woad raider's cry is unique to the woad raider? Thought that was just part of the celt infantry lines. Huh.
Nope, it's available to all Celt infantry as well. However, most people probably associate the Celts with the Woad Raider, so the battle cry is associated with the unit. I know that I myself typically associate foot unit voice lines with a civilization's unique unit if it's a foot unit, so hearing the lines come from other units is always very strange.
Indeed it is used by all celts military units except cavalry, siege and shios, so this includes foot archers as well
shotel warriors with 7 allies? who they gonna fight? xD Gaia? lol
that info abt samurai, animation is kinda cool, wish the devs kept it.
Just was waiting for part 2
11:32 Chu-ko-nu says "Zuo zhan!"(作戰!) when going to war, which literally translates "make war" or "do war" and means "(military) operation" in modern Chinese, also similarly as "sakusen" in Japanese.
The Japanese samurai in AoE2 says "Ikusa-ja!"(戦じゃ!) With that "-ja" just as a modal particle for affirmation, it is also like "War (it is)!"
Samurai in original: performs Hara-Kiri
Samurai in DE: falls over like most units
Is that not just a dark bracelet on the throwing axemen graphic?
Holy Hell, I never noticed those elephants in Transport Ship. Good work!
Love these videos
Fantastic videos!
Longbows outranging castles was why I liked the Britons when I was a kid. Just mass Longbows and the enemy's base defences couldn't hurt me. Although I did play on Easy too so any defenders were also Longbowed just as easily.
just ally with saracens and you got long a range ballistic missile
correction for the missionary. one of the biggest changes to them is something you did not mention which was they needed a a castle to be built in order to be created
Seems to me that the Teutonic Knights are using the ram like a skateboard, maybe even a bobsled
The Throwing Axeman fact is wrong. You can see a few pixels of his wrist; it's just that it's bent towards the camera, so his palm is in the way of most of it.
Great video. You should do one about the mechanics behind each seige unit.
Continuing ot love it.
Good video!
Amazing!
10:48 is reminiscence of an old quote:
“10 Elephants fit into one transport ship….
11 Archers don’t”
That obuch fun fact is insane!
How did people comment 20hrs ago when it was released 1min ago😂
Idk for sure but I know UA-cam has a feature that lets "channel members" (a paid subscription I think) have access to that channel's videos early.
Somebody more informed please correct me if I'm wrong lol.
Channel members?
@@thoneras9611 paying subscribed members
Delightful. :)
The fully upgraded longbowman outranging castles should be a pretty well known fact. anyone who has played the scenario agincourt has probably faced this choice. you can keep your rams fresh for amiens this way.
Yeah, I picked up on that fact as a 12-year-old when I first got AoE II on CD since I always hated losing units to defensive fire.
I also miss Korean Siege Onagers being able to get up to 12 range. 😢 Played some really fun games against the AI on Black Forest...
@@DanielBerke tbf, that was really OP in black forest, especially back when onagers couldnt cut trees.
can you do optimal mining camp placement? like the most efficient given the mine shape and number of villagers and when a second mining camp on the same mine is worth it?
The Ratha chariot being converted and then the auto change could make sense; maybe in the sense that the chariot is forcibly being removed from the owners place, and someone else of that civ taking over.
Bout the woad raiders...always imagined them playing with toy train, shouting Kogoo..😂
I had no idea the Berber unit tech Kasbah stacks up, what a surprise!
Nice 😀.
I wish they had kept the Samurai death animation.
My opinion about Toad Raiders just went up. A lot.
1:00 the camel/ship plot thickens
"at least at the Castle and Dock"
Warrior Priest: am I a joke to you?
On the height of horses as found in excavations (height from ground to top of the back):
- medieval riding horse, often used in war: 130-140 cm
- medieval charger, super expensive and only used by the rich sort of knight: 140-160 cm
- Mongolian horse: 120-140 cm
- modern pony: under 150 cm
Those Mongolian horses would be about the same size as the vast majority of the European horses found on the medieval battlefield. You get this reputation from early modern era where Europeans did breed their horses to go to more of a 160-180 cm range.
Source: even Wikipedia has an article on this citing Royal Armouries barding, go look there for a generalized overview
You cite wikipedia, and yet everything there gives a range of ~140-160 cm for European warhorses in general during that period, not just the Destrier. And specifically the royal armouries barding you reference was for horses that were 152-163 cm tall. Wikipedia even gives a height of 132-142 cm for Irish Hobby horses, which were considered small and light even at the time. Mongol horses were smaller on average than even the horses used by European light cavalry and large Mongol horses were the size of small European warhorses. And it's worth noting that Arabians are also 145-155 cm tall. So this wasn't/isn't even just a European thing. Mongol horses are short and stocky compared to most other horses and you'd probably have to go back to antiquity for that to not be the case.
SOTL, i think its time... you need to do a video fully explaining what "battle events" are. we need an answer, its been almost 25 years
You killed your opponents' entire 100pop army? More of a skirmish, really, doesn't justify the axe icon.
But you flattened 20 halb with one big onager shot, now THAT'S a battle 11
3:44
That's a huge range.
I think the devs should make it a lot smaller.
When it comes to the Longboat bit, camels = ships just never dies.
Ah, yes, the Longbowman bit is helpful in Agincourt.
Can agree that the Samurai bit should be returned for Heresy conversions and deletes.
Pertaining to the Shotel bit... the frak?!?
@spiritofthelaw, how about a deep dive into language/words used by various civs?
Is +1 against camel the reminiscent of camel used to have ship armor?
"What's wrong with this hands!?"
"He's French~"
So Coustillers got definitely forgotten :(
I want the old sudoku death animation back now why did you remind me of that?
Please make one video exploring funny unit icons of aoe2 too...
In regards to the mangudai, Mongols were generally shorter in stature than Europeans, and horses in general in the medieval period were smaller on average than modern horses, so the differences between the two wouldn't be that significant to be noticeable at the scale of the models in the game.
Has he done one with the best trash of each unit? Like "best halb" etc, if so I can not find it and am interested.
Explanation for the new Organ Gun attack bonuses: the devs added the dreaded Kidney Stones to their ammo list.
I'll never be able to accept "cogadh": it will always be POGOOOOO to me
Spirit of the la hire!!
"each unique unit from a castle. Next up, the longboat"
Gosh, I didn't know that halbs had +1 bonus against eagles
Does "Put Your Capes On" have any notable unit stats once combined with civ bonuses?
Omg i always thought woad raiders were yelling ‘pogo’.
How i used to take castles down back in the day was with longbow men
Also from how the Throwing Axeman is holding his axe (in DE) you can deduce he is a Lefty
So, it's funny, I'm right-handed when it comes to doing things with one hand, but when holding any sort of tool with a long handle (like a shovel, or an ax) I naturally switch to using a left-handed grip. I've noticed both my father and grandfather do this too, so I suspect it's (at least partly) genetic. I _can_ use a right-handed grip, but it feels less natural.
@@DanielBerke There *is* some randomness to it I agree. I play hockey with a lefty stick even though Im a righty
turtle ship projectiles fly faster so they can hit moving naval ships, it looks really awkward otherwise.
Yeah. Even with the shorter range, if their projectiles moved as slowly as cannon galleons' they'd have a hard time hitting anything non-stationary.
I wonder if the seargent actually forgets how to build entirely, or if it just checks to see if the Donjon is in the tech tree, and if it isn't removes the build option.
Found a video on reddit about how greek fire makes fire ships worse. Any chance you could investigate?
love the 2 videos, but no coustelier? 11
A couple pointers on the pronunciation of Indian units.
Ratha is pronounced along the lines of "Ruh-thuh" rather than like "Wrath" - Ratha in sanskrit translates literally to "Chariot"
Shrivamsha is pronounced like "Shree-Vum-Shah", like the "vam" taking a shorter "vum" sound rather than like "wham". Shri is a deity in Indian religions and vamsha translates to "dynasty". So Shrivamsha riders would be "Dynasty of Shri" :)
New video idea: Whats the best posible converted Ratha
Someone has already made that
I play Spanish all the time and didn't know missionaries are impacted by bloodlines and husbandry! I'm researching those nearly every match anyway so thats good news, but still.
The Throwing Handman.
Can you please do something similar for aoe3 ? Thanks :)
Very cool!
11:35 ORKS! ORKS! ORKS! ORKS! WAAAAAAGGHHH!!!
Woad Raiders really are the best, heh heh
Could you elaborate more on why the longboat extra arrows only make one damage on camels despite the bonus damage? I'm confused even after reading the note
The extra arrows are doing 0 damage, or 0.1, and the game reads this as a positive number, and "rounds" it to 1.
After calculating the bonus damage, however, the 0 damage is now 1 damage, so the game outputs a total of ... 1 Damage
Is it just me or did Spirit of the Law forgot to give an unique fact for the Coustillier?
What yoga training does shrivamsha rider get? Their spine must be very flexible able to dodge 10+ projectiles throwing at their face
6:40
They should be capable of building towers after conversion.
8:48 that's because they use foot power like the Flintstones.
