- I arranged and soloed this Rebecca Sugar Adventure Time medley for my senior solo in the JHU Vocal Chords Acappella group. Added in my own words here and there :)
Songs are "Good Little Girl/Bad Little Boy," "Oh Fionna," "I'm Just Your Problem," and "Everything Stays." Original songs all by the talented Rebecca Sugar.

Damn, "I'm just your problem" was intense and "everything stays" as well. Awesome arrangement!
I took more liberties with those arrangement because the originals were barer. I'm glad you enjoyed it!!

Thanks for asking! I changed them because I wanted this performance to be more personal (as my graduating solo/last hurrah) and my s.o., who inspired parts of this performance, is male. Glad you liked it!

Hi! So, as it turns out, I am a heteronormative person because I am straight, identify as a woman, and date someone who identifies as a man and also straight. While I understand that Adventure Time likes to break heteronormativity (e.g. Marcie and PB), it also embraces straight relationships, even when gender-bending. For example, the relationship between PB and Finn remains heteronormative as Prince Gumball and Fionna.
So, 1) I would say I am honouring the continuation of PB and Finn's straight relationship (as Prince Gumball and Fionna) in my decision to apply my own straight relationship onto it by changing pronouns. Applying straight onto straight? I see no discrepancy. 2) I would actually say I'm breaking the heteronormativity of Good Little Girl, Bad Little Boy by singing both sings as an identified woman! And 3) As a pseudo-artist myself, art is up to interpretation. People have gender-bended and queered up Adventure Time and many other straight relationships in fan art. Because that's their interpretation!
Finally: heteronormativity is not inherently "bad." It describes normatively straight relationships and the involved constructs like nuclear families, marriage, etc. Queerness is (arguably) not inherently "good" either! It is simply the opposition of heteronormativity. Queerness today is more good than not because it is pushing back against the unfair privileging of heteronormativity. But the concepts in themselves have no moral colour.
Sorry for the small essay. I am very interested in heteronormativity and queerness as well. They should be constructs to be studied, rather than immediately judged. Thanks for watching!
