Canelo Alvarez: De La Hoya just worries about drinking

- World champion boxer Saúl “Canelo” Alvarez discusses his tumultuous departure from Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions, including De La Hoya’s lack of involvement, the promotion company’s lack of loyalty and its general focus on what’s best for the company, not what’s best for its boxers.
After suing both Golden Boy Promotions and DAZN in September 2020, Canelo is now enjoying the freedom that comes with his free agency.

I got a different level of respect for Canelo after seeing this. He almost never lets you get a glimpse into who he truly is. In this interview, you learn a lot about who he is as a man.
If you didn't know this side of Canelo, then you must have not been following for years. He's clearly stated multiple times that he's a loyal person. When he lost to Mayweather they wanted him to fire his trainers but he said "no". He a loyal guy 100%
he let his "hair down" and let loose lol
@@S33Estate - are you sure he’s 100% loyal? You know that it was him and Oscar that didn’t want to fight Floyd at catch weight. You know who agreed to it? Chepo. You do know it was Canelo team that were butchers in Mexico and still managed to get Canelo testing positive for clen, right? You know who paid the few million difference to make that rematch happen? Oscar. Canelo is getting paid more because he’s fighting way more. He’s catching up because he got suspended and didn’t fight for a full year and also didn’t fight during COVID. With the amount of money he spends, it doesn’t matter how much he makes. Once you make a certain amount in boxing, you gotta take care of yourself a little. Oscar put him in the position no matter what to get those famous Mexican holidays. Oscar defended Canelo to the extreme because it was Canelo Team that stayed quiet with the clen situation. Oscar made him one of the highest paid athletes in the world. And he wants to bring up the lawsuit? Please bro. Oscar helped you more than his trainers did.
@@S33Estate I remember people said the Reynoso's babied him to much and he needed new trainers to push him lol oh how wrong they were
@@808MarveL - actually, they did. The real issues were with Oscar and Reynosos, not Canelo. Canelo used to blow up in weight big time in between fights so he always struggled to make 154. That’s why rt after Floyd, he would fight at 155 up until Chavez Jr. that’s like 7 fights later! When he fought Lara, it wasn’t even for Lara’s title. Oscar would tell Chepo and Eddy to watch after Canelo and they wouldn’t. But Oscar still supported and promoted the hell out of Canelo.
"If you know that you did everything right you don't have to be afraid" great quote.
But is not always true, you can do things right and be straight and they can still screw you over, life is not always fair, specially in a corrupt country like México.
@@robertgarcia7024 that's the thing man.if you know you're doing right and not screwing people over you don't have to be afraid unlike the government that's why they're afraid of Mexican citizens owning guns.
Yeah right? It's funny cause is actually a very well known Mexican quote haha
Load of bull shit .... people think this every time they go out and leave the iron on 🤷♂️🤦♂️👍😘
It's a common Mexican quote:
_El que nada debe, nada teme_

Canelo has surprised me, as a boxer, and as a businessman. Nothing but respect for him!
Ya he’s done great job he learned from mayweather both boxing and how to run your shit financially FUCK THAT LEECH OSCAR DE LA FISH NET he’s the mexican don king...if tyson was smart financially he wouldn’t have been fucked over like he did
Same, he's a good and strong person.
Canelo was /is a trusting loyal man. If you screw him-you done with him . Oscar knew what he had with Saul-promising career with possible legendary pathways....no..he thought Saul was a young ignorant of the “money thing” and took his selfish motives into an abyss where he has shamed himself, golden boy , and his close boxing circles. I am proud of Canelo for surrounding himself with the right ppl to guide him due to many minefields . Ask Iron Mike...
You are in love🥰
Such a champ
Cameback to this after the Ryan vs tank fight and it's crazy how true this is now.
Probably the first time Canelo has been this vocal about his disputes with Golden Boy. Great interview.
I like canelo too but he’s also fucked up if he signed the contract for a specific amount of fight 11 fights for 40 million each why is he trying to renegotiate if he fights triple g for a third fight he had already agreed to fight for 40 million a fight. It’s greed
@@pizzaropizzaro3859 ...it was 11 fights but no fighters name came attached with the contract...it would of been a mega fight so canelo did what everybody else in his position would done...if they wanted that triple g fight they would of had to pay him more for that fight...the contract was for canelo to fight in dazn not to fight triple g...they gave canelo freedom to pick his fights...
don’t think he’s ever been this outspoken even in the spanish media..graham got a great interview
I love Conelo. I think the reason he can be more vocal about all of this. Is because the lawsuit is over with. I'm glad he got out of Golden Boy Promotion and away from Oscar De la Hoya.
@@pizzaropizzaro3859 He just said there was a clause that specified that, if it was a mega fight, It'd to be renegociated. They just didn't care and tried to do what they liked

@Nicholas Lizarraga Yeah he also closed down his boxer gym he had for the community. I should go there as a teenager and it got shut down and he owned it
Westerling True. But also true is that you should never promote yourself to be something you are not. If you’re not a great humanitarian, fine, no prob, don’t claim that and it’s all good. Nobody expected that of him anyway. Canelo seems to be more grounded with who he is.
@Nicholas Lizarraga what have you done for the community, not a damn thing sit yo ass down
Seems like everyone who knows de la Hoya says he's a piece of shit.
Taking less money for the ability to make your “own” decisions is such a beautiful thing........ it secures your ability to stay true to who you are. I love it.
Hell yea and the money grows steady! Like who wouldn’t love that. Not having to be worried about losing more than you’re supposed to..
No lie here
It's easier to do it from a position of power like he was in, but still good on him for breaking free of the leeches.
Ha we got the same name lol

These Canelo interviews are the best I've ever seen. He has never been this open about his life and experiences.
He just says things that people already know. You like the house or Jimmy Graham?
But he will never address the DOPING, he can never be the GOAT when he cheated sorry.
You obviously haven’t seen the entire interview, and even if you did you’d still be a hater, take your negative somewhere else, or better maybe get it out of your life.

@@dwindows1976 Unlike Mayweather? What about Mayweather taking the IV before the Pacquiao fight? That is said to be illegal because you can mask another banned substance. It doesn't seem like there's enough evidence to me where you can say he was for sure but that's the same thing with Canelo. He took the hair test that everyone wanted him to take and it showed he was clean. So we'll never know for sure either way. But you're a hypocrite if you're just going to accuse Canelo.
What an absolute legend
He gets better and better as he matures
Not just in the ring but outside too
Canelo still very humble
As one should. If you’re not maturing in every aspect as you get older, there’s a lot of reevaluation you need to do.

@@seandealy7432 lol!! Another clown. What proof do you have or is it just hate?
Is this all you have ? You juice? Do you know the implications of health and boxing ? Yes, you right he got caught years ago for bad advice. He learned from this as you probably learned from your mistakes , I believe he realized his physical potential with diet and working out eliminates use of that crap. He will not jeopardize his boxing career now to fulfill his expectations by cheating. He is doing this the hard way. If the boxing commission or opposition thought he was juicing- he would been called on it. So your comments here show no merit and expose you as a hater and nothing else . Shoutout to the champion. True words, a lot of people don’t know what loyalty is anymore.
Canelo needed this interview..!!!! Glad this was made..!
💯🔥
God damn you can tell how much DAZN and Oscar pisses this guy off. I’ve never seen him get animated about anything ever
Roger that!
Why's he still fighting for them?
@@greysymphonyearth he’s a free agent but likes working with Eddie Hearn at matchroom who deal with DAZN, it’s definitely the best decision he’s made
Fr lol even his voice is different lol
I think canelo low key is gay
just followed him on insta, he inspires me so much with his talent. so humble too
I have even more respect for this man than i ever did before he is a man of quality
I can’t blame him Oscar is the shadiest cat ever. Best thing Canelo could of done.
Not just Oscar but promoters in general are all the shadiest it can become a new wave of independent boxers cutting the middle man look at Mikey he’s independent as welll
Could HAVE
*could have
you smooth brain
@@marcoo7239 yup. The Ali act was made because of those reasons caused by the promoters. Quick story i experienced few years ago at a gym i was working at, had a kid ready for pro levels really talented and the owner whom i knew for 10+ yrs knew as well.... To the point: owner says hey hes ready and I...sorry we will make money off of him, you'll get your 3% and I'll take my 90 as promoter and manager." I caught him and asked what the fuck did he mean and i wasnt ok with it, we end up talking to the kid i trained and the owner switches his story up. The supposed contract was said to have 90% of purse be given to the owner because of reasons. Both kid and i left the gym, sent the kid into better hands. But promoters are shady as fuck.
Yeah Oscar as a fighter was pretty great and him leaving Top Rank to create his own promotion paved the way for other fighters. But, Oscar as a promoter or whatever he does now is completely different. He clearly has fallen off. He should be glad Canelo didn't leave him back when Schaefer left and took all those fighters to Al Haymon and PBC.
These great interviews man! Shows the real inside on Canelo.
Happy that he took control of his life early most dudes can’t say that when ur goals go beyond money good things and the right things usually fall into place vamos Canelo
Bro Graham has been underrated for so long. Hopefully this gives him the exposure he definitely deserves.
He stinks. So awkward and monotoned. Zero personality.
Maybe is best to stay low key
He is the worst interviewer ever. He does not challenge his guests and just showers praise on them. He never asks any question that upsets.
@@pgaquigz1125 I just had one of his fanboys go apeshit on me.
I agree man, he is one of the best in my opinion. You guys talking shit can go listen to cowherd
Yeah I always felt something was not right now something's not right with Golden Boy and Ryan Garcia🤫 I see Canelo trying to protect him which is a good thing
You mean trying to steal him for DAZN and Matchroom.. Canelo is looking out for himself and Canelo Promotions.
@@Dozywazzock It's a business, of course Goldenboy and Canelo are looking out for themselves. Greed on both sides got in the way of this union.
Lmao all you jcats acting like you really know what’s going on 😂
I like canelo too but he’s also fucked up if he signed the contract for a specific amount of fight 11 fights for 40 million each why is he trying to renegotiate if he fights triple g for a third fight he had already agreed to fight for 40 million a fight. It’s greed
@@zworldnews2099 you understood nothing lol
I love how Canelo values himself💯 and handles his business.
Gracias por subirlo bendiciones a todos....
Graham is legit the best interviewer
Canelo is the MAN! No fear in this man. That's why he is the King of boxing!
Theres no fear in boxing.. There's only the defeated and the undefeated. You have to fight the best out there and unify your division to become king of boxing 👍 i wish him the best!
The King of boxing jajajajajjaja😳😳😳😳😳😳😳😳
Thanks for this post! Grateful for UA-cam!
What a Great Interview 👌Canelo looked very comfortable opening up to you
I respect him for speaking in his native tongue. Initially it was aggravating, but now that I am older, I respect any man who holds onto his land and to his people. #respect
i also like the fact that you can tell he has put in the time to actually learn english as well though to cater to his english speaking fans across the world, the best of both worlds
@@kiwione12 agreed
Strong words brother this is true respect
Why was it aggravating?
@@IGoz-gm8ld when I was younger (around the time canelo became a star) I thought he should have made better efforts to speak English. I was wrong and insensitive. But now that I am older I think differently. Any man who keeps his culture is the true winner.
Am I the only one who speaks and writes in Spanish fluently but is still reading the subtitles for some odd fucking reason hahah
Nope lol
I do it too 😂
It's kinda like seeing words and not reading them no matter how we try not to lol I do the same with English subtitles to be honest lol
Hahah can’t help it 😂
brah i know i hate it!!
Wow!!! Caneliux!! Eres lo máximo!!! Me encanto como hablaste!!! Sigue por donde tú quieres ir!!!
Bravo! ! Canelo, eres un orgullo mexicano 👏👏
More proof Oscar is looking out for himself: wanting to fight exhibition with Triller instead of promoting his Golden Boy stable.
Let's hope Triller make him regret that. Such an awful company.
guy has destroyed his legacy
What promoter isn’t looking out for himself, that’s the boxing game most of these boxers end up broke!
@@alreyes8476 no shit what do these people think promoters are out to help people make there dream come true. Its a business like any other trying to make the most profit they can. Canelo is also looking out for him self asking for a better deal.
ive been watching canelo his entire career and I heard him speak more openly and authentically in this interview than in all those years that I've watched him. top tier interview
That's the mexican way
Love the way canelo in this interview, I’m guessing that since this was more question based then criticism questions he handled himself as if he was having a conversation with a friend which makes it more unique and awesome!
Didn’t know this. Shows how savvy he is in both business and boxing. Great Interview he let canelo speak and just lead the questions on. Very good.
Great for Canelo. Great for all boxers and great for boxing.
No, Clenelo is bad for boxing!
He is a proven cheater cherry picker who plays w a unfair advantage always ie PEDS, ducking prime boxers, Catchweights, cherry picking smaller boxers etc
Oscar should know better being an ex fighter himself
Coke ain’t cheap ‼️
@@mikehunt2576 you got that from Dana, don’t cap
True but Oscar was an icon for Latin people and for boxing. All of it completely went to his head and now it seems he's pickled his already punch drunk brain IMO
@@willyhillydude hey I saw Oscar recently say in a video with snoopy dog saying that he was going to fight again he said that he didn't have an opponent yet wouldn't be great if it was Canelo I would love to see it. I remember watching him back when he had a great career but fk him now
@Hector , Dana has been calling him out on that shit for so long, it was pathetic to see Oscar on that broadcast acting like that, even my 60 yr old mom thought he was high on coke

Great interview Sr.
And Canelo beside a Champion he is SMART GUY!! whit his money . GOOD FOR HIM.!!
I'm happy for Canelo I always knew he was a humble and kind person with loyalty to his team and family
“He’s worried about drinking and other things” i.e crossdressing and snorting coke
I knew it was coming, HAHAHA!
Man id just like to have one person in my life with a third of the loyalty that man has, behind me standing there for me
Dana White made some comments about Oscar. I didn't believe them until Canelo just echoed them.
I believed him asap. Oscar definitely is someone else's puppet. Cuz he's not bright enough.
Dana white is just as bad or worse than Oscar.
@@alfonsoperez7632 how so
@Dylan C not many fighters would say this
@Dylan C if they don’t fight when Dana wants them to fight he buries them, even if they are just coming from an injury and shit
What a great interview. Amazing insight on what really happens between golden boy and Canelo. Much respect to Canelo.
Honestly, this guy has my respect. He is humble, honest, grounded and sincerely self assured. Much kudos to him. He's absolutely changed my attitude towards him. Thank you for being you!
I absolutely LOVE this kid... everything about him (of course, that which we've seen from a public eye) screams the highest of character!
Ask any true Mexican, loyalty means more to him than money! It's in our blood!🇲🇽
Real shit loyalty before royaltys
Respect
Para un mexicano, la palabra vale mas que el dinero. Es cuestion de honor. Pero si hay personas que no conocen el honor.

Después de esta entrevista me he quedado sorprendido y respeto a canelo como persona y a huevo como mexicano.

Thank you for explaining this! I was so confused I was having my dad try to explain it to me the other day! Great interview!
Damn this is a cool side of Canelo I have never seen before. This guy should start his own fight promotion because he seems like an overall good person.
He’s on par with being one of the greatest fighters ever. I’ve watched him since he fought Shane Mosley and instantly knew that he had a natural ability to box. Always humble and a straight killer, much respect to Canelo, proud to see where he’s gotten himself, get em champ.
