Can it run on batteries? The power supplies (usually switching supplies) are the weak point in these cheap DACs and sometimes more expensive DACs. Sadly I've seen switching supplies used in DACs costing over $2k. Understandable in a product that costs $200. But I'm still hoping switching to batteries or upgrading the power supply is possible
Battery is not needed. You can upgrade with ifi ipower x - which is still switching, but with active canceling system, effect is better even than linear ps and far better than batteries. And it's cheap. Quality of fiio sound can be in fact improved this way, as ps from box is indeed very cheap and bad. Modern good switching ps are technically batter than linear ones - with totally no any noise. They are dead quiet. Which can be checked on oscilloscope. So they are intentionally used also in very good, even best gear - to reduce size, weight and increase power.
Hey, a really nice, surprising device! R2R DAC units tend to be pricey. It's about time there was some option at lower cost for new audiophiles/music lovers to get into. Bonus for it being a really good unit, too! It's too bad that it's not available at present, as it could make a great Christmas gift for a newbie! I may pick up one for myself, too. 😉 Thanks for mentioning again, as I just subscribed to your other channel. Anyhow, cheers, and great listening! 😊 🎶🎶🎶
Looks like there's no Volume knob arrow. Does the volume dial itself end/or stop, or does it just keep turning similar to something like the Soundblasterx G6?
I was finally able to order one, and it should be here on the 12th. Took about a month for them to show up on Amazon again. I'm interested in how it performs on it's own and with HQPlayer. Going to put in my 2ch and see how it stacks up.
You said it's a "desktop" DAC. Does that mean it's not intended to be installed as part of a home stereo system? I've never owned a DAC, but it's cheaper than most sols at my local hifi/record store.
Please keep comments civil. Comments with links will be removed

I've been praying for you Bruce. Enjoying this review. An R2R DAC at that price is quite a steal!

Hope your treatment goes well Bruce! Rooting for you! Love from UK

May the force be with you!

This has a Coaxial In/Out. Can this be used for a Subwoofer when used a preamp? Thank you

soft amp vs hardware?...please advice

I just ordered from Fiio direct for10€ less than Amazon, just missing my birthday ;-)
Is it comparable to other entry level r2r dacs like denafrips ares ii (15th) or musician draco?
Be careful with that bronchitis, that shit did permanent damage to me.
What would I need to add to this in a wireless streaming setup? Maybe something like the WiiM Mini via optical?
Wiim mini would be very good, of course wiim ultra even better.
Are you talking abone of those "wireless" setups with all the wires? 😂
@ well the only wireless element is the connection from my phone to the streaming device I guess.
And streamer connection with wifi.

Of course it can be used that way. And it's not only cheaper but better than most.
He's calling it a desktop dac because it has a headphone amp
Can the display lights be turned off?
Yeah you can set the brightness down to 0, for the RBG logo but not for the interface
Yes. Turned that top LED off. Would get hot. Nice and cool now. This DAC sounds great to me.
@@Kekdouble actually you can set a timer for the screen to go off after any adjustments, between 1 - 30 minutes. I have mine set at 1 min.
Nice equipment. Just miss a remote (I am lazy), Take care of yourself and good luck.
Thanks for the well wishes.
How does this compare to something like a Bifrost 2?
Honestly I have no idea, I have not heard one
Hi, could you please remove the text 'Amp' from the title? I was really confused because this is not an Amp. Thanks!
Its headphone amp with pretty decent output especially in balanced.
It’s a Dac and Headphone amplifier
You are technically correct. Should read DAC + "headphone" amp, to avoid confusion.
Привет, бродяга, раскачает ли этот цап наушники Sennheiser HD660S2 ?
How do it compare to iBasso D16?
