Yes, but it's the fullness of a life of prayer, which we lay persons may certainly follow as we have time to do so. The Lord Jesus Christ is our Shepherd, and leads His sheep wherever they can "pasture" in the Holy Orthodox Faith. (Jn 10)
You can be if you are male; women are not allowed on Mount Athos. You need to apply for a pass. The Patriarch Bartholomew's web page has instructions on how to do this; I think there is an Enlglish language option on the site. Alternatively you can visit the Mount Athos site.

They had special permission from Simonapetra's Abbot Elder Aemilanos (reposed 2019) who wanted the world to share in their life of prayer and holiness! His books "Church at Prayer" and "Life in the Spirit" are collections of his excellent Spirit-filled sermons. His prayer led me to be washed in the Spirit while reading his "Jesus Prayer" - and a miracle beyond anything heard of - an appearance of this Elder (his angel no doubt) by a young Orthodox convert, now M. Aemiliane, who was rescued under 60 TONS of cement fallen from an Atrium bridge in a KC hotel. She saw Elder holding her after her instantaneous coming out from under the cement pile, and telling her "you will be fine my dear". Elder was at mt Athos, but the Lord allowed him to be present for this young Orthodox convert. She later found out who he was and joined him in the women's monastery ion Greece (Thebes). She is now abbess at "Sacred Monastery of St Nina" in Union Bridge MD - her miracle is told on "St Nina's quarterly" under "Sister Aemiliane Interview". God love and keep us through the prayer of our Elder as we glorify Christ in His saints! Amen~

it varies from Monastery to Monastery - are you in the UK by any chance?? You can try and visit the Eastern Orthodox Monastery of St John the Baptist in Essex, UK. A lot of the services are in English as well - and there would be no problem staying there. It's a beautifull spiritually uplifting place - very much worth the visit - especially during Lent if you want to experience the fasting and prayer. I hope this helps.

Where was this film broadcast? I'm so surprised they let a film crew on the property. They're usually very private about this.
