I saw her too... in my bedroom when I was a child. I thought it was an angel or some spirit apparition, but I remember the feeling that a loving, caring person was looking over me. After watching this video and seeing the image of the blessed virgin in Zeitoun, I realize that it was the Theotokos I saw, watching over me as I lay in my bed. I was not raised Christian. My life has been a spiritual struggle. I grew up in a community of spiritists and psychics, so I was exposed at an early age to demonic influences. Now I am 48 and preparing to be baptized into the Orthodox Church. I realize now that all my life the Theotokos has been interceding before the throne of Christ, on my behalf, even though I am an unbaptized sinner. Glory to God! I am aware of the controversies in the Eastern Orthodox Church concerning ecumenism and interfaith communion, but I will always consider Copts, Armenians, Assyrians, and other "Oriental Orthodox" Christians to be my brothers and sisters in Christ. Most holy Theotokos, save us!

Our Mother would have the Catholic Church unite once again. As a Roman Catholic I so look forward to this and believe our Faith would be enriched if we were to celebrate the Holy Eucharist as one once more. One Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church.

The Holy Grail is a cup or vessel that can receive the divine grace of God, and that’s what she was. The One True Church, the Body of Christ, consists of the canonical Orthodox churches, that is to say: Coptic, Ethiopian, Eritrean, Syriac (which includes the Indian jurisdiction of the Syriac church), and Armenian Orthodox churches. This is what we mean in the liturgy when we pray for the peace of the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church, which is manifested in the communion of the bishops. If I say that schismatic groups that are separated from the Church are also part of the Church, then I am re-introducing the heresy of Nestorius by saying that the body of Christ is in two communions which are not united.

It too is in the perfect tense, and carries a sense of “It has been written and it stands written.” It lacks nothing. Likewise, Mary has been graced (favored) by God and she stands in that grace (favor). She is full of grace.

They have communed with Christ and in keeping with GOD's promises and covenant; GOD's grace has mixed with them ,a created being, and made a new man or "new being" that is illuminated by the divinity of Christ, GOD, and the Holly Spirit. There is no upper limit to Grace. From grace to grace. They are alive eternally. Living illuminated beings can help with some things, and what they can't help with they pass on to GOD with the strongest prayers. They pray with us and guide us, teach us how to pray. How can they hear us? Because they know us. How can they hear the prayers of millions of people? We are all the same creatures we all pray for the same thing . Liberation from sorrow and true salvation. They have walked the path so they can intercede in our sorrow and tears to show us the way... until eventually we too can know GOD and receive grace and in this way have the ability to help an infinite number of beings.
Can someone please explain to me how she hears and other saints hear our prayers? I'm new to orthodoxy and really trying to understand. I know God is omnipresent and omniscient..but how does it work with the others?
We believe God carries our prayers to the saints in heaven. So when you ask saint Mary for anything God makes your prayer known to her. I have heard an argument from protestants how can the saints in heaven listen to millions of prayers daily but God is all powerful so we know by his provision it happens.

@@_jerome_03.91 To answer your questions: 1: Quoting our Lord. God is the God of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob. God is the God of the living, not of the dead, for all are alive in Him. So, the saints, including the holy Virgin, do hear our prayers IN HIM. 2: What does it mean to be an adopted son, or child of God. For us Orthodox, to be "saved", is to become and have all that the Eternal Son has by nature, bestowed upon us by Grace. "Salvation" is MUCH more than just being forgiven, though that is certainly part of it. Your Protestantism has made you just as mistaken as those Sadducees who questioned our Lord on the Resurrection.

God can't be born of sin. Only through a sinless vessel could He manifest. That's why Mary declared she was the Immaculate conception to Saint Bernadette of Lourdes. We shouldn't think that God's last Speech to us was done 2,000 years ago. God is a living God. He Speaks through our existence.

Next is the fact that Christ gets his human nature from Mary, He shares his human nature with her. This was her salvation, that God preserved her from sin so that His Son can have a mother as perfect as Him. Honestly, the dogma of the Immaculate Conception really comes down to the theology of Original Sin.

Reading the comments by many of you, a documentary that was supposed to glorify the Mother of God some how was turned into some kind of bigotry and self righteousness. I saw her too... in my bedroom when I was a child. I thought it was an angel or some spirit apparition, but I remember the feeling that a loving, caring person was looking over me. After watching this video and seeing the image of the blessed virgin in Zeitoun, I realize that it was the Theotokos I saw, watching over me as I lay in my bed. I was not raised Christian. My life has been a spiritual struggle. I grew up in a community of spiritists and psychics, so I was exposed at an early age to demonic influences. Now I am 48 and preparing to be baptized into the Orthodox Church. I realize now that all my life the Theotokos has been interceding before the throne of Christ, on my behalf, even though I am an unbaptized sinner. Glory to God! I am aware of the controversies in the Eastern Orthodox Church concerning ecumenism and interfaith communion, but I will always consider Copts, Armenians, Assyrians, and other "Oriental Orthodox" Christians to be my brothers and sisters in Christ. Very interesting documentary. The orthodox church is so very informative educating us about our faith.
Orthodoxy is a piano with a full set of keys. Catholic have three quarter of the keys. The Protestants even less. Until these so called modern church have but a few keys of the piano. I am definitely growing closer to our most Holy Theotokos what a blessing. Other then venerating her Icon with a kiss I found lighting a candle at the Icon of the Theotokos at the Parish a great way to break the walls down as a former protestant. I liken it to bringing a flower to my mom.

Our Mother would have the Catholic Church unite once again. As a Roman Catholic I so look forward to this and believe our Faith would be enriched if we were to celebrate the Holy Eucharist as one once more. One Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church.

I see people bickering about whether Orthodox or the Catholic Church is the true faith. Please understand that we were one church until 1054 AD. Both these churches revere Mary as the Holy Virgin Mother of God.
I pray that we all be one, all CHRiSTians, whether Catholic or Orthodox, or Protestant. In every Catholic Mass, this is prayed for. All of us are God's children. God's grace is not limited to CHRiSTians either. "He makes the sun shine for both good and bad alike." The Holy Grail is a cup or vessel that can receive the divine grace of God, and that’s what she was. It too is in the perfect tense, and carries a sense of “It has been written and it stands written.” It lacks nothing. Likewise, Mary has been graced (favored) by God and she stands in that grace (favor). She is full of grace.

They have communed with Christ and in keeping with GOD's promises and covenant; GOD's grace has mixed with them ,a created being, and made a new man or "new being" that is illuminated by the divinity of Christ, GOD, and the Holly Spirit. There is no upper limit to Grace. From grace to grace. They are alive eternally. Living illuminated beings can help with some things, and what they can't help with they pass on to GOD with the strongest prayers. They pray with us and guide us, teach us how to pray. How can they hear us? Because they know us. How can they hear the prayers of millions of people? We are all the same creatures we all pray for the same thing . Liberation from sorrow and true salvation. They have walked the path so they can intercede in our sorrow and tears to show us the way... until eventually we too can know GOD and receive grace and in this way have the ability to help an infinite number of beings.

Can someone please explain to me how she hears and other saints hear our prayers? I'm new to orthodoxy and really trying to understand. I know God is omnipresent and omniscient..but how does it work with the others?
We believe God carries our prayers to the saints in heaven. So when you ask saint Mary for anything God makes your prayer known to her. I have heard an argument from protestants how can the saints in heaven listen to millions of prayers daily but God is all powerful so we know by his provision it happens.

To answer your questions:
1: Quoting our Lord. God is the God of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob. God is the God of the living, not of the dead, for all are alive in Him. So, the saints, including the holy Virgin, do hear our prayers IN HIM.
2: What does it mean to be an adopted son, or child of God. For us Orthodox, to be "saved", is to become and have all that the Eternal Son has by nature, bestowed upon us by Grace. "Salvation" is MUCH more than just being forgiven, though that is certainly part of it. Your Protestantism has made you just as mistaken as those Sadducees who questioned our Lord on the Resurrection.

Mother of Our Savior was choosen by God, so only that must be enough to know that she is special. It wasn't choosen just like that. Her mother prayed to God to have children, and after that she promised the child to God. She was raised far away from human sins in the temple. And she was visited by Angels, that is again something very special for a "simple" human. And when Our Savior was born, she was full of grace from Holly Spirit, I don't have the courage to say she is a simple sinner like me after that miracol. And one last think, she was a apostle in special for woman to transmit the Word of God. That's why now exist two ways for woman, to marry in Church, or to be with God in monastery, to pray for us.

Your fifth council reaffirmed the one nature terminology that St. Cyril propagated and that Chalcedon failed to affirm. And what about the 7th council? We still had icons while they were getting destroyed in the empire! Did we need a council for that too? All the councils deal with christology, and our christology isn't defective in any way, unless you think the christology of St Cyril was defective!

It's first reliant on the concept of original sin, whether there is an inherited fallen nature. The eastern orthodox deny this, the western Church believes this.
Next is the fact that Christ gets his human nature from Mary, He shares his human nature with her. If He is born without the taint of Original Sin, she cannot be born with Original Sin, and also have never sinned herself. Eastern Orthodox agree she never sinned.
This was her salvation, that God preserved her from sin so that His Son can have a mother as perfect as Him.
Honestly, the dogma of the Immaculate Conception really comes down to the theology of Original Sin.

Reading the comments by many of you, a documentary that was supposed to glorify the Mother of God some how was turned into some kind of bigotry and self righteousness. Christ said, "those of you who seek to be first will be last." God Himself our Lord Jesus Christ was humble. If the Greek Orthodox Church taught you to go around labeling fellow or perhaps not fellow Christians in this type of evil spirit then I wonder on the authenticity of your orthodoxy. The heart of God is mercy. It is sad day for me as a film maker indeed. Even sadder, I used a Greek orthodox book for refrence for my research for the film...because I thought they were our brothers...and they do have excellent books in English. :/ a sad day in the Christian world. Mark A As believers we have been received by Jesus Christ by an act of faith by believing upon Him .... this believing is a surrender to the Word of God who became flesh and tabernacled among mankind over 2000 years ago.... So Whom Christ receives by the faith of the Believer we should also receive also... It is not for us to string out a mile long string of doctrines and if the person can tick all the right boxes then we receive that person... We can't lay down hard and fast other theories outside of the excepted cannon of scripture and they maybe some old historical source but and the end of it is the Son of God who was sacrificed as the Lamb of God and through Him alone have brought us into His kingdom and all other side issues will only be taken to cause division through our common enemy Satan and they need to be dropped otherwise Christ can't return for warring factions ... He wants to come back for a glorious Church without spot or wrinkle that matches Him the overcomer's who love not their soul lives unto death whom I believe is the Man-child all other side issues are our undoing .

@Bert Clayton Yehoshua would be Christ's name in Hebrew, which is the same as "Joshua" in English. The English nane "Jesus" comes from the Greek version of "Yehoshua" which is "Iesous". Mary's name in Hebrew is "Maryam" and in Greek it's "Maria".
