About Dauphin Island
Dauphin Island offers an authentic taste of the beautiful Gulf Coast. It is a quaint, small southern town with a strong marine culture, an eclectic mix of locally owned shops and galleries, and laid-back restaurants that serve delicious locally harvested seafood. You’ll also find miles of uncrowded, pristine beaches, excellent fishing and a historic, storied past. Dauphin Island has been designated as the “Sunset Capital of Alabama,” so you haven’t lived until you’ve experienced the approaching dusk of day from any point on the island.
Located at the southernmost point of Alabama - 3 miles south of the Mobile Bay - Dauphin Island feels worlds away, but is easy to reach. Just a short drive off I-10, between Biloxi, Mississippi and Mobile, Alabama, the island welcomes you with views from a 3- mile-long high-rise bridge. An automobile and passenger ferry from the eastern shore also offers a dramatic entry point on the eastern end of the island.
I was blessed to be able to visit my grandparents 4 times a year on that Island in 1970’s. Before hurricane Fredrick you could walk the beach from the sea lab where my grandfather worked and lived all the way to the other end of the Island .you can not do that now due to mult changes to the shoreline but I have wonderful memories.
So interesting to see folks from out of town enjoying the home town. I think it's easy to get jaded by your hometown living there all the time. But it was really neat to see people enjoying themselves in the Mobile Area! Dauphin Island is one of the most unique places you can hang. I grew up there.
I play music at Pirate's all the time. One of my favorite places to play. Pool opens up this week, actually!
@@doolbro we’re gonna be staying at Gulf State Park in the next month or so maybe will comecome and see you play
Love your video. We have had many changes since this video. Beach restoration and the pier near the Fort is repaired. New exhibits in the Aquarium
Thanks for the update. We really love the area. Can’t wait to get back there.
Binge watching your past video, enjoy meeting you and Sharon at The Landing RV resort
Awesome! Thank you!
Growing up on the Island , the fort was a fun place to play. Happy to see the island getting the Attenion it deserves. 😊
Hey Dwight! Those are strictly natural gas rigs... Oil rigs are much farther off shore😘
Denise, first thanks for watching our videos!! We appreciate it. Second, thanks for clarifying the rigs for me. As you may have been able to tell, I wasn't quite sure. Have a great week.
@@storiesacrossamerica the video highlighted the island well! Thanks for visiting!

min size for trout in Alabama is 15 inches. Good job Frank.

Thank you for talking to my friends! They told me about it right away.
You’re very welcome. We love your channel!! They were awesome to hang out with at the bakery, what a great couple.
We are in the area right now fishing
Very cool. Catching anything?
Thanks so much for sharing your trip. Came across your video while looking for ideas on what to take the grand kids to see. Been to DI many times but don't normally do touristy things.
Cool info for you, every October the SCA has a weekend long event the last weekend of the month. Traditional camping is allowed at the fort. Inside the fort us medieval period camping. I've done both and also camped in the fort barracks. They have reconstructed battles in full armor, blacksmiths, and several other period things happening.
Subscribed. 😁
Thanks for watching, we are so glad that it was helpful. The SCA event sounds incredible !!
I grew up practically on a rig so with all the happeningss. now are the rigs still drilling today ? Sorry it's in my blood..
Natural gas rigs. Not oil rigs
Thanks Candy, We appreciate the feedback and for you watching our videos. Did you enjoy it?? Thanks Dwight
I wish people would stop doing videos on Dauphin Island. Best kept secret. It’ll end up like Destin 😢
