I made the trip back and forth 8 times to move all of my dinos and the materials from tearing down my old base I had no freaking clue this creature existed. I love your raft building videos, I wish this one had the same kind of detail. I'm on a private server and we have the raft slots doubled, so this is feasible for me.
You can use 138 parts on a motorboat which per se takes only 1/6 of the damage a wooden raft takes from Leedsichthys. So a motorboat is a valid alternative IMO. Thanks for this video, Bruce!
It's not cheap, that is correct. It might not be a good idea on a pvp enabled server to use a motorboat if it gets destroyed often, but for an pve server it is IMO a good alternative.
Thanks for the video, your series got me started on making boats! With the introduction of the motorboat it takes 54 hits for a Leedsichthys to kill it, and the motorboat can outrun it (except an alpha). I have a single Species X on the back of my motorboat to make sure nothing can catch me. It takes 6-7 ballista hits to kill a Leedsichthys as well, so even with a wooden raft (dead in 6 hits) you can usually kill the leedsichthys before it hits more than twice. When we cross the deep water on The Center I always have a buddy in the turret. If I'm solo then I cruise shallow water, and if a Leedsichthys shows up I get it beached on a rock and kill it. I agree that it's not really practical to build a leedsichthys-proof boat, but I love that you figured out how to do it. A species X on the back of your boat or a ballista turret is all you need to make them pretty trivial to deal with. That said, I still think the spawn rate is borked (too many and too often), the aggro range is too high (they'll come up from the sea floor) and they should not leave deep water (they are frequently beached on the shore). When we got the ballista turret we just started cruising the waters with one guy driving, one guy on repairs and one guy in the turret. We put a flag on the corner of the boat that we planned to paint fish silhouettes on for kills. In our first outing we killed 20 of them. Still encountered three crossing deep water on the way home. That's just silly.
Haha that many? I guess you are on PC as on the Xbox official no tame servers I haven't seen any on island map, although I have had abandoned rafts destroyed on the center so I know they are out there. They do sound kind'a fun though the way you put it though haha.
We play on the Center, and the amount of Leedsichthys there is ridiculous, it's really not entertaining to have so many of them. I frequently will see three or more at a time.

thank you for doing this after so many viewer suggestions. shame the boat solution is not what we were all hoping for. you did the best you could and still the first to accomplish this. can't wait for the next video. favorites ark building channel. keep it up.
This won't help vanilla players, but I worked with the large rafts from the Advanced Rafts plugin and experimented with cages. I found that the whale will only aggro the boat itself and nothing else. It has a bite radius of about 5 or 6 foundations. If you can make a cage that keeps it at least 5 foundations away from the boat, it won't even try to bite. Don't bother with a sphere, make a cylinder.
So OneWing, not sure if you are still making videos but firstly your boat tutorials are the best I’ve seen. I recreated your trapper taming boat and much to my dismay a Leed made lunch out of it, my Carno, and most of my resources on my trip back home. Never been so devastated in Ark before. But you give me confidence to go back out on the water, I’m going to give this one a shot! Wish me luck M8 😁
StillLoad_ing the alpha killing boat will stop them from attacking as long as you are moving. A motorboat isn't too hard now that black pearls are more abundant.
xONEWINGx your alpha boat mixed with lowered foundations and spike traps is the plan. I’m just trying to mimic yours as best as possible. I might just go with your alpha boat I’m struggling to find how to set the foundations as you did. Ah, yes. Motorboat would suffice as well
great videos, my favorite of all the Ark videos out there. I'd imagine you are working on a motorboat video, curious when it will be done. keep up the great work!
@@incredibilisgaming4150 a motorboat will outrun a regular leeds easily. Takes a little more skill and luck to outrun an alpha. If there's enough interest I'll make a video how I'm able to survive out in the open ocean. I've been attacked by both alpha and normal at the same time no damage to stone rafts and main metal motorboats connected together to form a c4-proof base. Been 3 months at least and going strong. 😁
I don't even know why people say pegomastax are the most annoying creature in the game in my opinion this is clearly number one on my list of most annoying creatures these whales attack me literally every time I sail to a different island
I think a creature that attacks boats was basically necessary (I had never even seen a boat sink before the leed was added because nothing would ever target me on the raft) but I feel like they could've gone about it in a better way, they became easier to counter after speed boats and honey were added, but they are still really dangerous. If I were in charge of patch 256 I would've made the leed less aggressive and more skittish, coming in for only one or two bites before swimming back down to the bottom, that way they would still be a threat if you were out in the open ocean, but not so dangerous that you can't ever take your boat out to sea
I think he is one of the few youtubers that does, usually PC guys just setup scenarios on private servers. You cant expect someone to make a how to build video on a public server though, that would take forever.
3x3, 3x4, 4x4 and 4x3 centered around the raft let you reach further out in different directions with foundations, with mixing such configurations maybe the spiked walls are unnecessary. About to try making a motorboat leedproof based on this video, it has extra range on buildings so will probably not have to mix alignments. Curious if the grid underwater could potentailly be improved by using dinosaur gateways standing on the foundations far down, or if giant hatchframes can block at the bottom. I'm too lazy to test that though so will probably just mimick your foundation set up.
not exactly an early game strategy, but, sink three-four pillars beneath the boat, one ceiling, two auto-turrets, one electric cable, socket and a generator later, problemo solved. Leave the turrets off until the whales hit, they do a little damage to your raft but turrets wreck 'em. Tried and tested method for our boats. although we also slapped six cannons onto the boat as a broadside, the Murphy's quotient y'now? Plus, motorboats are on their way.
Yeh I'm not so sure, I usually play alone thus am unlikely to ever have the resources to make one and what self respecting alpha tribe wouldn't sink it the moment its floated? Boats as they are, are cheap and somewhat expendable but when they are made into an asset I fear they will just become a toy for the alpha tribes, at least on PvP I expect this.
“...it finally happened. thwack I got attacked by a whale.” LOL XonewingX this design still has a lot of potential, particularly on SP. I’m currently debating building on of these above each deep sea loot crate using a metal raft given I won’t be moving it once parked anyway and the extra spaces would allow for a loot taxi tame pen. I know the building portion was glossed over in this one due to the practicality being in question but do you have any pointers or could you make a build video? Thanks again and keep up the good work. Your other boat tutes have already given me and a buddy lots of good memories.
Interesting, great build, like you said though unless you park in deep water it's pretty pointless. On our official server there are still TONS of crap rafts out at the world barrier, the whales aren't all that common. Super hypes to see your motorboat builds man, keep it up!
Very smart build. It seems that it might be more feasible on a motorboat given the 50 extra building spots, assuming the building follows the same rules. I assume you play primitive based on the builds you do? It would be cool to see some videos on your actual gameplay, base building, taming, whatever you normally do
Yes but the motorboat still survives a decent amount of time versus alphas from videos I have seen. With the laughably small size of the ocean around the island you can get to shallow water on the coast before your boat goes down
first time got attacked by the whale i had my pet spino following my boat. he was about level 40 and while he didnt kill the whale, he kept it from attacking the boat and scared it away. now i always take a spino on long boat rides
I just had my anky on a stone ship with 3000 metal and 1000 plus cementing paste, took me hours to build boat took 4 hrs to collect not to mention taming, then boom ! sinks my ship like wtf ???? This game teaches you some harsh lessons.
as u r my fav raft builder you tuber of all time i wondered if you had time to show how the tek foundations vs Leeds works and how the tek forcefield makes Leeds like goldfish?? think it would good to let players know tek didn't ruin the game. Tankx Dazz
I wonder if your design works against the Alpha Leeds. I made a motorboat design based around this video and I tested it in singleplayer a bit and it seemed to be protected vs normal leeds, but I was lazy so I didn't actually look(or spawn an alpha). Just had my first encounter with that motorboat with an alpha leeds and it could hit it where the other leeds hadn't been able to. From the back, from the bottom. Spooked me pretty bad because I was just hugging the edge of the map making sure the map was filled in, two creatures I had with me were knocked off the boat by the map boundary so I was gonna go down for a swim and try to get them back and before I jumped in I heard the alpha leeds coming and it rocked the boat. Doesn't deal that much damage to motorboats at least. It's faster though.
Can you do a build video, I can't seem to get the dimensions right, I've tried 3 times and they still able to destroy it, seems like they come from the corners in the back.
I haven’t played Ark in over a couple of years, today I decided that it was time to hop back on. I went to a dedicated server w/ pvp and began slogging through the levels; over the next 6 hours I would have reached level 32, built a small base, accumulated a good amount of loot, and got a tame that was ridiculously hard because I kept getting killed by an alpha raptor. My base was only a 2x1 but I had already made a smithy and a furnace and was preparing to make guns. Since I had played Ark as a solo and with a large clan, I knew that since I was on a dedicated pvp server my chances of being raided were pretty high especially since I was playing on the island and I had put my base on the beach where the starting players spawned. I decided that I should store all my loot on a boat and park it near by for safe keeping. Well, long story-short, I basically watched 6 hours of hard work get completely destroyed in 10 seconds and there was nothing I could do about it. All because I didn’t know there were whales added into the game, safe to say I won’t be touching this game again.
My god i hate those whales, they need to change that really, im on a pvp server on xbox one, my base out on the southern island, for a whole month and a half i had no encounters with whales, suddenly one day the server was gone for like two days straight noone could log in or get their character, suddenly it came back but had alpha everything roaming around all the beaches and also had alpha whales, its like they snatched the server, added in super more whales and alphas and then let us get it back but with vengence of all the creatures, those whales are not good for anything, they need to take them out the game or find new mechanics for them than just to be waiting on peoples passing rafts, i vote stupid whales off the island for good or i will agree to have yheir mechanics changed, they can be more useful than just for destroying rafts
I just built my own ship today and I didn't name it yet and than I ran into one of those fish whale fucks, I made it to land and it swam away, I soon after named my ship "The Survivior"
I love the boat builds but could you try to make a base defence bronto or parser. might be a cool challenge since you like the limited build pieces for boats.
i constantly use my “battle ship” (a ship with spikes all over) and have never seen one. maybe because i’m too scared to go further, even though i have gone from herbivore island up to around the volcano
Anyone who played Ark when it originally launched or was in early access knows why they added this thing. It's because people used to spam rafts all over the beaches/inlets to the point the game would lag out. It was another form of trolling. They added this to clean up the mess. "Only in deeper waters" is a lie. I've seen them in the inlets as well. The problem is that Ark's code is so bad they don't always spawn where they're supposed to.
Yes, I doubt the repair method would work for an alpha but last night I took 3 or 4 hits before making to shore and the raft hp looked about 20% after which would mean 5 hits without repairing. As Andrew said I have had a boat 2 hit by an alpha before in about 3 seconds.
If you've lost a raft to an Alpha Leeds you know that it two-shots the raft and hits almost back to back unlike other Leeds that pause to say grace between each hit.
Nice discovery on how to keep the leeds at bay, but it's too bad it uses so many build parts in the process. To me, the leeds still need to remain disabled ltogether until their bug is patched.
This idea was fine until "...And let's have it do damage directly to the raft, no matter what material they built onto it. Otherwise players with metal turret rafts will be too strong." That type of idea deserve a Batman slapping Robin meme
Leeds is a Grind-Reset mechanism. They made it that way to keep YOU on the hook... my 3rd hit from this stupid fish was so bad it removed the hook and deleted the game from my computer.
This dinosaur exsisted as a docile krill eater. Who could believe this thing would go out of its way just to wreck a boat. "I'm going to ignore this survivor who is clearly piercing me with his pike, but let me smash his raft to pieces, because I felt like antagonizing him in the first place for the lol'z." Makes no sense lol. Feel like this whale was implemented solely for troll purposes
Heres a secret not a lot of people know. The leeds never visits the east side of the island, keep your precious cargo on the east and use another raft for travel.
Tail fins vertical means it's a fish....Ichithys literally means Fish in latin... Leedsichthys is a giant member of the Pachycormidae, an extinct group of Mesozoic ray-finned fish that lived in the oceans of the Middle Jurassic period.
I was so proud of my first raft. It got eaten 20 minutes after I built it =( It seems like Wildcard is punishing people for being inventive with the rafts? Which doesn't make sense, but what can you do? Besides craft ever more elaborate defenses =P

Me and my tribe were looking awesome, sailing 3 aircraft carrier replica ships loaded with birds and being escorted by 9 destroyer replicas with fully loaded rocket turrets, then comes a great big fuckin’ whale and sinks both AC’s and a destroyer. edit: we built these things by using tutorials from I BARDEN I or just search: Ark aircraft carrier and Ark Destroyer
I came back to ark months after I stopped, me and my mate build up a raft fully metal and stoned grinded out for 2 days having a bit of fun small raids n travelling around the map, and then this thing one shots it...an animal not even seen destroys 2 days worth of work in seconds...you’ve ruined your own game
I do Wonder can you drive the boat in very shallow water with all the foundations and spikes below? Do they just phase through ground in the rivers? I would guess yes but I haven't tried it yet. I've only done a sunken foundation storage catch on a boat, but nothing elaborate like this. That is genius though I do like the storage box with repair items at hand that does seem the most practical.
It all just passes through, only the rudder gets caught no matter what's built on it. If you watch "alpha hunting boat" it will also stop the leeds as long as you are moving.

Ah, yes. Motorboat would suffice as well
So basically guys have 2 plant turrets on the back and have a box with Wood, Fibre and hide to repair your boat.
Try stay close to the coast aswell
great videos, my favorite of all the Ark videos out there. I'd imagine you are working on a motorboat video, curious when it will be done. keep up the great work!
After all these years I've finally found the ultimate Leeds defense. Even alpha Leeds. Rafts are at some risk but motorboat platforms totally safe.
I almost lost my motorboat to one lol
@@incredibilisgaming4150 a motorboat will outrun a regular leeds easily. Takes a little more skill and luck to outrun an alpha. If there's enough interest I'll make a video how I'm able to survive out in the open ocean. I've been attacked by both alpha and normal at the same time no damage to stone rafts and main metal motorboats connected together to form a c4-proof base. Been 3 months at least and going strong. 😁
@@rogueone4145 I would be interested in that and I'm sure other raft people would be too!
bloody alpha Leedsichty rick rolled me yesterday it only took 2 hits to destroy my raft.
Keep up the good vids man! This was really helpful
0:27 lmao that gay fish looks so fuckin hilarious😂😂😂😂😂😂
I don't even know why people say pegomastax are the most annoying creature in the game in my opinion this is clearly number one on my list of most annoying creatures these whales attack me literally every time I sail to a different island
I think a creature that attacks boats was basically necessary (I had never even seen a boat sink before the leed was added because nothing would ever target me on the raft) but I feel like they could've gone about it in a better way, they became easier to counter after speed boats and honey were added, but they are still really dangerous. If I were in charge of patch 256 I would've made the leed less aggressive and more skittish, coming in for only one or two bites before swimming back down to the bottom, that way they would still be a threat if you were out in the open ocean, but not so dangerous that you can't ever take your boat out to sea
i sometimes wonder, does this guy even play ark? or does he just build rafts?
I think he is one of the few youtubers that does, usually PC guys just setup scenarios on private servers. You cant expect someone to make a how to build video on a public server though, that would take forever.
He does play on official servers he just doesn't record it.
Jaxdeformity
He plays ark all the time, his channel is just dedicated to builds.
Smokes my tribe mate from official notame, I've still got at least 4 vids to piece together from there yet.
xONEWINGx
Haha oh really? Can't wait to see them! Are they from the Sniping raft?
sometimes it's the simplest ideas that are the most useful
3x3, 3x4, 4x4 and 4x3 centered around the raft let you reach further out in different directions with foundations, with mixing such configurations maybe the spiked walls are unnecessary.
About to try making a motorboat leedproof based on this video, it has extra range on buildings so will probably not have to mix alignments.
Curious if the grid underwater could potentailly be improved by using dinosaur gateways standing on the foundations far down, or if giant hatchframes can block at the bottom. I'm too lazy to test that though so will probably just mimick your foundation set up.
Great video, i will use it with the mod advanced rafts, the large raft have more area to build and a lot more pieces (6 times the normal).
Glad I didn't take myself out to sea yet. I didn't know about these things. Now I'll prep
another great video bud, you are the best ark UA-camr
not exactly an early game strategy, but, sink three-four pillars beneath the boat, one ceiling, two auto-turrets, one electric cable, socket and a generator later, problemo solved. Leave the turrets off until the whales hit, they do a little damage to your raft but turrets wreck 'em. Tried and tested method for our boats. although we also slapped six cannons onto the boat as a broadside, the Murphy's quotient y'now? Plus, motorboats are on their way.
you're gonna love that new motorboat in the next update, one wing.
Yeh I'm not so sure, I usually play alone thus am unlikely to ever have the resources to make one and what self respecting alpha tribe wouldn't sink it the moment its floated? Boats as they are, are cheap and somewhat expendable but when they are made into an asset I fear they will just become a toy for the alpha tribes, at least on PvP I expect this.
i assume this was recorded before the motorboat was added
The whale booty rapped my boat in like 2 seconds
“...it finally happened. thwack I got attacked by a whale.” LOL
XonewingX this design still has a lot of potential, particularly on SP.
Tyler Jacobsen fish not whale
Interesting, great build, like you said though unless you park in deep water it's pretty pointless. On our official server there are still TONS of crap rafts out at the world barrier, the whales aren't all that common. Super hypes to see your motorboat builds man, keep it up!
Very smart build. It seems that it might be more feasible on a motorboat given the 50 extra building spots, assuming the building follows the same rules.
I assume you play primitive based on the builds you do? It would be cool to see some videos on your actual gameplay, base building, taming, whatever you normally do
It might not even be needed on the motorboat, it takes much less damage from the whales plus it can outrun them.
Chris Jones True, but the Alpha can still catch you. I wonder if this would work on them as well.
Blast Heart I totally forgot about Moby, good point. I've never seen one so maybe you'd be ok as long as you don't park in deep water.
Nah he plays regular official
Yes but the motorboat still survives a decent amount of time versus alphas from videos I have seen. With the laughably small size of the ocean around the island you can get to shallow water on the coast before your boat goes down
first time got attacked by the whale i had my pet spino following my boat. he was about level 40 and while he didnt kill the whale, he kept it from attacking the boat and scared it away. now i always take a spino on long boat rides
I just want to know who the FUCK thought these whales would be a good idea. Completely killed the game for me, I had a fleet of warships. =/
Tyler Donte' just kill em
I just had my anky on a stone ship with 3000 metal and 1000 plus cementing paste, took me hours to build boat took 4 hrs to collect not to mention taming, then boom !
sinks my ship like wtf ????
This game teaches you some harsh lessons.
Even better idea. Have a posse of Megs. The whale is no match for them.
fish not whale...great video, keep them coming
For some reason I panicked a bit when his oxygen was running low!
as u r my fav raft builder you tuber of all time i wondered if you had time to show how the tek foundations vs Leeds works and how the tek forcefield makes Leeds like goldfish?? think it would good to let players know tek didn't ruin the game. Tankx Dazz
its a fish
Vee Bay No shit everyone knows. It's just called a whale by some because of it's moby dick like behaviour.
Who cares
HelScape yes it is my smart friend
Damn son where'd you find this. It evolved long before the first sea only whale
Great vid Onewing! Thanks :)
God damn that is unlucky
Didn't you run basically that exact same risk, except to other players, playing on a PVP server?
How many pillars down are the lowest layer of foundations?
There is no limit.
My god i hate those whales, they need to change that really, im on a pvp server on xbox one, my base out on the southern island, for a whole month and a half i had no encounters with whales, suddenly one day the server was gone for like two days straight noone could log in or get their character, suddenly it came back but had alpha everything roaming around all the beaches and also had alpha whales, its like they snatched the server, added in super more whales and alphas and then let us get it back but with vengence of all the creatures, those whales are not good for anything, they need to take them out the game or find new mechanics for them than just to be waiting on peoples passing rafts, i vote stupid whales off the island for good or i will agree to have yheir mechanics changed, they can be more useful than just for destroying rafts
lookupdude1 just kill em
Crazyinstafinds they aren’t whales
I just built my own ship today and I didn't name it yet and than I ran into one of those fish whale fucks, I made it to land and it swam away, I soon after named my ship "The Survivior"
I have a whale proof raft, and it didn't take any parts being put on it. I just built it on Valguero.
What's crazy is that thing is actually a fish
I love the thing they spawn like crazy near me and 50/50 raiders never make it to me to raid or it gets them leaving
Well, an Alpha Leedsichyhys - Lvl 1 takes a raft down in 2 swift hits
Andrew Truax any LEEDSICHTHYS DOES 3 HITS TO SINK BOAT OR RAFT LMAO! DOESNT MATTER WHAT LVL IT IS OR IF ITS THE ALPHA ONE
Yes, I doubt the repair method would work for an alpha but last night I took 3 or 4 hits before making to shore and the raft hp looked about 20% after which would mean 5 hits without repairing. As Andrew said I have had a boat 2 hit by an alpha before in about 3 seconds.
If you've lost a raft to an Alpha Leeds you know that it two-shots the raft and hits almost back to back unlike other Leeds that pause to say grace between each hit.
motorboat war build!
got to wait a couple weeks
Now we can't build like this anymore, anyway to block them ?
I wish there were more details as to much how far the foundations were sunk underwater so I could create this easier
Always interesting, thanks.
Nice video man
Nice discovery on how to keep the leeds at bay, but it's too bad it uses so many build parts in the process. To me, the leeds still need to remain disabled ltogether until their bug is patched.
What ark Dev decided that this shit would be good to implement
This idea was fine until "...And let's have it do damage directly to the raft, no matter what material they built onto it. Otherwise players with metal turret rafts will be too strong." That type of idea deserve a Batman slapping Robin meme
U used to be able to sink stone foundations and be fine in year 1 but then it keeps getting buffed to hit thru more outrageous builds
Leeds is a Grind-Reset mechanism. They made it that way to keep YOU on the hook... my 3rd hit from this stupid fish was so bad it removed the hook and deleted the game from my computer.
Can they just make that thing stay at the bottom of the ocean and super rare because they are so over powered
Keep up the great work :)
idk why but for me just the sunken foundation prevented the boat from rocking. maybe because I dont protect the rudder with a hach frame?
Got taken out I'm one hit by an Alpha. Lost everything. Rafts are now useless and were a big part of my game.
It got eaten 20 minutes after I built it =(
It seems like Wildcard is punishing people for being inventive with the rafts? Which doesn't make sense, but what can you do? Besides craft ever more elaborate defenses =P
Just as I was watching this an alpha whale came over and one-shot my boat :'(
Damn that sucks
Do you think theres a way to use less Structures? Maybe cutting the row of foundations in between the spikes and bottoms foundations.
Nah the row you speak of is kind'a the bottom row, its just ballooned out. They are needed.
We spent hours making a base on a boat and there was an alpha one. Raft was gone in two hits.
“...it finally happened. thwack I got attacked by a whale.” LOLXonewingX this design still has a lot of potential, particularly on SP. FASTEST CLICK
anyway theres actually a counter to them? if so then holy shit
Yes but sadly not a very practical one and uses a lot of slots
great job man
Me and my tribe were looking awesome, sailing 3 aircraft carrier replica ships loaded with birds and being escorted by 9 destroyer replicas with fully loaded rocket turrets, then comes a great big fuckin’ whale and sinks both AC’s and a destroyer.
edit: we built these things by using tutorials from I BARDEN I or just search: Ark aircraft carrier and Ark Destroyer
If you want to live on a boat build somewhere the Leed can’t kill your boat e.g the east oceans on the island or anywhere on rag
