Happy birthday Josiah. We won't forget you.
Over the past year, I've been working on this song in honor of my cousin, who passed away after having an unexpected seizure in his sleep. Josiah and I were a bit father apart age wise so we didn't spend as much time together, but as a younger cousin this was my first time I had to watch someone leave without really getting a chance to say goodbye. It didn't feel real to me. It all felt too fast, too soon. It's hard to think about that perhaps as I got older we may have gotten along really well. It makes me sad feeling that I won't get the chance to find out. Since Josiah was a die-hard packer fan and had such a fun sense of humor, it felt important for me to throw some lyrics that make light of the viking / packers rivalry in our extended family. The trumpets were made to feel like heaven is breaking from the seems. I desperately wanted the melody lines in this track to sound gritty and hopeful all at the same time. I want to thank Josiah's family especially Judson, Jude, Barb and Jim Abeler for walking alongside me in this project and encouraging me. Because this event is so personal in our family, I was incredibly nervous sharing this just hoping the lyrics and the instrumental were good enough to really show my respect to Josiah and his family.
