I look up to you Ed! Keep going, keep changing our world for the better!
This is actually a clever strategy you´re using. By mixing the concept of "cognitive dissonance" with your message about morality, you are ensuring that whoever disagrees with your standpoint will be automatically treated as one who has cognitive dissonance. But that´s not how it works. You don´t get to simply make a video about X topic, using soft beautiful words, while at the same using an undisputable scientific concept such as Cognitive Dissonance, which you can then easily use as a tactical weapon against those who happen to disagree with your position. "Aha, you deny everything that I said, therefore it means you suffer from cognitive dissonance!" You are being intellectually dishonest and manipulative.
I´m omnivore and I do not have cognitive dissonance. I´m completely aware of how my meat is brought to my table. I have read many articles and have also watched many videos of the daily operations within the animal industry, so I´m not ignorant about the topic. The reason why I choose to consume animal products (keeping in mind that too much will result in undesired health consequences) is because I don´t see animals the same way that vegans do. I don´t see animals as individuals entitled to rights, as that depends entirely on the religious perspective of the person who is making the moral judgement. I simply don´t share the same standpoint on this specific topic. And that does NOT entail that I suffer from a psychological malfunction (as you accuse me of), for I know exactly what happens to my choice of food in every stage of the process, yet I refuse calling such a thing an "act of evil".
@@8schopra "Hv switched to Ayurveda .Its Vegan" Not always. It sometimes uses ghee, eg chyawanaprash.
@@georgestang2986 Just last year in the UK, meat sales dropped by £185 million. That's just in one year, and this year that trend looks set to continue. That's more than "the odd animal", that's a real difference. The vegan movement has some real momentum. I've witnessed some very rapid changes is social attitudes - look at the gay rights movement for how quick changes are possible.
@@fearofaveganplanet8513 Also look at smoking. Not long ago doctors were smoking in their offices. Everyone was smoking in every public place. In bars and restaurants, on buses and planes. Now it's banned pretty much everywhere. It's considered dirty, and people are considered stupid if they smoke, and negligent if they smoke around their children or when pregnant. It's amazing how fast attitudes change. I'm looking forward to the day when they stop feeding children and ill people in schools and hospitals animal products. And even when animal products get an age restriction like smoking and alcohol. It needs to hurry up already!
"In the age of information ignorance becomes a choice"
Mmmmh, yeah, unfortunately it's also the age of misinformation. Critical thinking is more important than ever.
Well said!
THAT
I disagree, misinformation is a powerful tool. You’re more likely to run into pro-meat information for most of your life, before you ever discover people like Earthling Ed. Planned, critical thinking is necessary. Some form of self-reflection. I've been a vegan for 38 years........best thing I ever did, just remember to eat properly and be a brilliant example for the animal-eater who love to portray us as 'weak', 'wane' and a host of other disparaging things. Just a few figures to show what we are no longer party to:
If you asked any animal-eater how many animas are slaughtered a MONTH in the UK they would underestimate by MILLIONS.
Blinded by our own stupidity. Wilful Blindness. Hidden in plain sight..............the UK is full of animal 'lovers' while most of these animal 'lovers' in the UK are eating animals:
Defra UK slaughter figures for JUST ONE MONTH - September 2020:
Cattle: 239,000
Sheep: 1,338,000
Pigs: 933,000
Defra UK slaughter figures for JUST ONE MONTH - August 2020:
Broilers: 82,100,000

I belong to India and we are enormously dependent on dairy products. There is no life without milk specially in north India. It is considered to be a part of staple food. Religion is also involved and therefore, milk is treated like holy milk, apart from the factors based on its nutrients and vitamins.
But ever since, I have seen your videos, it has changed my life tremendously. Its been two months and I am complete Vegan from vegetarian. Its indescribable how difficult it has been ever since I took the oath. I had to give up "Tea" and various other products which is made of milk. I have thrown all my leather clothes along with my wallet and sweaters made of fur.
I did struggle a bit initially but currently I am in full control and disciplined. I feel incredible and proud on myself. I am more compassionate towards animals than ever before. My goal is now to encourage others to follow the same, which I am sure, will certainly be able to do.

Because most people are unaware. By choice or by accident. And when presented with the truth the first reaction is to become defensive. Not being open to change. With awareness, change is inevitable. Who likes change? And also with that awareness will come guilt for partaking in this slaughterhouse for so long with out thought or consideration.
Yes! Awareness is necessary but does not equal acceptance. That is the problem for most people. Fear of a Vegan Planet Yes, but it brings so many problems in communication, feelings and actions. It’s impossible to get inner peace without kindness for all. Cosmicskeptic just did a decent video on cognitive dissonance a few days ago.🧠 Great job guys the more information an education on our behaviours that cause unnecessary suffering the better.🌱
Sadly, our lives are filled with cognitive dissonance. We say we value the environment, yet we drive cars. We say we value human life yet we support wars. We say we value compassion and kindness yet we eat meat. This is a great video. Thank you for posting it.
The car example is not a good example because humans do need a transport system to travel but we can change our ways so we can limit the environment damage but yeah at present time most of the people can live without eating meat and stop these unnecessary animal suffering.
I think the problem is some people who try to be vegan start thinking naturalism is a way or we have to live like primal life bs. But being vegan is nothing but an ethical position without doing any harm to anyone else.
"Only speak if it improve upon the silence"...just like animals, learn from them.
sorry for my english but yes it is absolutely cognitive dissonance when my friend want to be a veterinary then she loves eat meat 🤯

Jane Smith I think she nows that the vegan diet is more healthy but she says « I like meat too much » I think she doesn’t make the connection between an hamburger and a cow and when I talk about the pain of animals she doesn’t want to listen.
I feel like the majority of people, have to be told what to be outraged about. I guarantee you if mainstream media were to denounce flesh eating, overnight you would start to hear people testify how they knew eating meat was wrong all along. I say this because why do people romanticize military, but look down on school shooters. why do people despise sex trafficking & prostitution, but make jokes regarding p*rnography & strip clubs (aren’t they the same thing). why do people tolerate zoos & aquariums, but outrage against kidnappers shown on the local news. Why do people see trophy/deer hunters as outdoor hobbyist, but see street gang members as immoral. why are people ok with rodeos/bullfighting, but not dogfighting. And the list goes on and on!
Because it is up to society as a hole to come up with the laws of what is ethical. Until a majority is held a law will not change. In todays society it is about education to allow people to fathom what is right and wrong.
You fucking nailed it.
This is gold!

i guess a fast way to make people aware of their behaviour its to chose a new law worldwide ,,,,that says : for those who want to eat meat ,they must go at the slaughterhouse and chose themselves the animal they wanna eat and be present when its killed. im sure the lack of intelligence ,the ignorance , the total disinterest towards other beings lives will totaly change . instantly . i decided years ago to be vegetarian and after 5 or 6 years i eat at easter lockdown meat again .my body rejected it right away ...but now i decided not even the cheese and egs in my house . thank you ed . you are such a pure being on this planet
I'm so tired of seeing dumb people just gorge themselves on meat then go on about their lives with their incurable diseases. Do these people not ask themselves hard questions?
I think many people don't even see a connection between these two things, and then tell vegans how unhealthy it is NOT to eat meat and dairy products -_-
💯 agree
Thank you Ed, for this very clear and important message. Well done, as usual.
#BoycottMeat and all other animal products, cruelty and exploitation in any way possible!
okay, Karen.
@@v.a.n.e. I don't think you're using Karen right, bucko
no wonder, Karen will always have objections. no one wants to deal with Karen. @@TORAPEANDMURDER
Cosmic Sceptic just made a video on cognitive dissonance in relation to meat-eating too. Highly recommend that people check it out!
It's true and sad that some just don't want to change at all even if they could.
I remember one morning when I was at mom's house cutting apples for myself in the kitchen.
My old mother, who's been a self-claimed animal lover, came to me and told me angrily that she thinks the veganism is a cult because, ...we vegans don't eat animal products.
So I calmly asked her a simple question.
"Well then, what do you think the difference between dogs and pigs is? They look the same to me.".
Instead of answering my question, she suddenly rushed to the fridge and grabbed a big package of ham, and opened it. Then she turned to me and said, "I've been eating this way my entire life!", and ate the whole package (about 10 thick slices of ham) right in front of me. (...Nope. she's never eaten that much ham at once before. I bet she felt sick on stomach as much or even more than me.)
Then she almost shouted, "This is my life! I don't care what you think or know!" and went back to her room.
That was the day I understood that my mother really is an animal lover. However, she loves dead animals far more than living ones. Oh well...
Anyway, cheers from Japan to all fellow vegans and vegan allies/supporters!
The world is chaos but a lot better as long as we don't give up being the change. Ed is the living proof, I think. ( :
Holy shit, that's insane.
Yay ! A Japanese vegan ! :D vegans are all around the world !
@@flytrapYTP Thank you. ( :
I think some people have to overreact to new things. Or, like my mother, they love to eat what they like and don't want to understand the consequences of their choices.
@@ゆねこあ Yes! We vegans are everywhere! ( ;
Thank you for doing what you do, Ed. Vegan for 7 months now because of you.
Is this inspired by Alex's video?
Cant be
As he posted it just yesterday.
Making a video and editing it should take more than 1day.✌👍🏻
I loved his yesterdays video too on Cognitive dissonance
Reckon it's a coincidence. Don't think he could knock out a video in a day.
The production that's gone into this video look like it has been in the works for a long time. The time may have been right for both of them though.
I'm vegan. But it took a long time. I'm in my late 50's and over time I cut things outs...my last stronghold was eggs. Then...finally I ate one and it disgusted me. I felt so free once I no longer was tied to suffering. Someone once described eating meat as eating souls and THAT is what pushed me over the edge. Another described it as consuming suffering and pain. I just couldn't partake in this anymore. I am so happy being vegan. I'll never go back.
Hi. I'm sure you are doing fine, but I just want to share some info with you. There's a website called Cronometer that is great for making sure you get all the nutrition you need. Flax and chia seeds are good for omega 3. A few walnuts and a quarter of avocado is good to aid in absorbtion of fat soluble vitamins and beneficial phytonutrients like lycopene (found in tomatoes). A single brazil nut is good for selenium. You can also get vitamin D and B12 sprays, that you spray on the inside of your mouth, that bypass absorption through the stomach, which is probably the best way to get the vitamins, I think in general, but also as when you get older your body can start to absorb less.
Nori has a good amount of iodine in it, that is if you don't use iodized salt, then you have to be careful about the amount of iodine you consume. Blueberries are great for antioxidants also, anthocyanins in particular, and purple cabbage is also a good source. Also there's a beneficial nutrient in broccoli called sulforaphane, but cooking can prevent the chemical process from occurring. You can add it back in by having a little mustard seed powder with the broccoli, or some broccoli sprouts, or any raw cruciferous greens that have myrosinase in them. Also counterintuitive but too much spinach is also potentially bad for you as it can cause kidney stones. If you look into these things you will find a lot of great info about them.
I like to study this kind of stuff. Hope some of it is useful for you. Dr Greger's daily dozen is a pretty great dietary guide. Here are the titles of a few NutritionFacts videos you can look up also.
"Are Avocados Good for You?"
"Minimum Recommended Daily Allowance of Antioxidants"
"How to Reach the Antioxidant RDA"
"Second Strategy to Cooking Broccoli"
@@ethicalrevolution3294 Wow...thank you so much for all of this information. I will certainly look into this information and incorporate as I can. This information is VERY helpful indeed!
Great video! Yes, I know many people who love many animals but who are still able to ignore reality when it comes to those they choose to eat.
Indeed, there really is no difference among different species of animals. They can all feel various complex emotions and pain. Born and raised in S. Korea, I've seen dogs raised in horrendous conditions, especially in the countrysides. I'm working with a few S Korean animal rights organizations that strive to not only eradicate the dog and cat meat industry, but animal cruelty as a whole, including investigation of how pigs were cruelly culled by being buried alive during the African Swine Fever Virus outbreak. The tricky part about the position of dogs in S. Korean law is that they're not officially considered "livestock" by law, so the regulations that protect livestock do not apply to dogs, resulting in often extra cruel treatment and lack of restriction of dog meat industries compared to the "conventional livestocks." In S. Korea, there is a handful of dog-meat advocates who even discriminate between breeds perceived as "pets" and others that are "livestock." For instance, the Korean Jindos and Dosas are commonly bred and slaughtered for meat as they are larger, but there ARE indeed all breeds of dogs of all sizes falling victim to the dog meat industry. As there is no such thing as a "pet" dog and a "livestock" dog, there is no such thing as a "pet" animal and a "livestock" animal. All dogs are dogs, as all animals are animals who can feel various complex emotions, compassion, and more just like humans. These discriminatory appointment of certain animals as “pets” and others as “livestock” are merely societal norms had been executed for millennia by our ancestors, but it's more than time to challenge this notion and establish alternative ways of living without enslaving and exploiting animals. While there are growing movements to abolish dog and cat meat throughout Asia (Taiwan imposed the ban in 2017, and S. Korea is going through massive movements shutting down slaughterhouses and dog farms), we can also stay optimistic that one day, we would be able to get rid of ANY type of animal product industry. #govegan
This made me cry, not only for the suffering of the animals, but because the people who need to get woke, the ones who need to see it the most for things to change.... won't even bother. Anything like this that I post to social media gets totally ignored, yet some inane meme gets shared. So frustrating.
I've been a vegan for only a few months now, and I still feel this. I would fight for those pigs lives as hard as I could, but I still can't help but be more upset at the version with the dogs. I'm still working on getting rid of the biases I've been raised with.
Just watched cosmicskeptic’s video on this yesterday. Awesome coordination between the two of you (if it was intentional). Love it when the vegan activist community works as a team together!!!
Superbly well articulated based on the cognitive dissonance literature, Ed. Thumbs up and the Professor-Elizabeth Seal-of-Approval to you, Ed, and your Team and all the animal stars in your video, including all those on their way to losing their lives. It is not ‘totally’ in vain although terribly sad, given the publicity they are receiving, each one helping to educate the public.
Since finding your videos a month ago I decided to transition from vegetarianism to veganism. Since becoming vegan it feels like one weight has been lifted off my shoulders only to reveal a second, much larger weight. My guitar teacher inspired me to become vegetarian, my tattoo artist planted the seed of veganism, my coworkers encouraged me to watch Dominion, and now you've inspired me to make the commitment. I have been without animal products for approximately a month now and have no intention of returning to them. My body and conscious feel cleaner since doing so. These experiences have shown me the importance of talking about animal rights and veganism. As someone who has always actively avoided potential disagreements with others the prospect scares me, but your videos give me the motivation and tools I need to be more outspoken. Thank you for all of your hard work, Ed, and for helping me to find the more compassionate path.
You’re one of my favorite youtubers
Beautifully said and explained. I really love how you broke down the study and explained its relevance to peoples behaviours with animal products. I am studying psychology at university and I realise these studies and applying what we learn from them are so important!!
God tier production 👍♥️
some times these videos make me feel so sad for those animal even knew i dont eat them its still heart breaking to watch
Thank you Ed! 💚
Thank you yet again for more motivation to keep going with my transition to a vegan diet and lifestyle. It's hard at times, but not as hard as the life of an animal on a factory farm. My goal is to be done transitioning by the end of the year.
i just screenshoted what u said for motivation💖
Coming from a meat-eater who stumbled upon this video looking for more information about cognitive dissonance - That was a really well-made video. Not only did you explain the concept of cognitive dissonance perfectly, but you used a powerful example that supports the veganism cause in a super kind and uplifting way. Telling me that I'm a horrible idiot person probably wouldn't have given me the same reaction, to be perfectly honest. Time to go snack on some nuts now...
what an amazing video thanks for making it sending love X
