Bannerlord Tactics: The BEST Villages to Survive an Attack (Volume I)

- Welcome back future Emperors, Khans, Jarls and Sultans, in this episode we continue our series covering some of the pre-battle strategy that is necessary for you to succeed in Bannerlord. I cover several important subjects that will help you with Kingdom, a summary of how I form my army composition, what troops I like, how much of each kind and then a little on army and noble management. I recommend the playlist for those who REALLY want to get better at the game and dominate.
This New series is going to cover defending villages with tactics, as I explore Calradia for villages with the landscape terrain and nuances necessary for a great defense. We'll have a bloody battle from my campaign with elite units followed by an instructional episode showing these village defenses from the custom battle menu - clearly illustrating how you two can pull off these kind of victories, even without an elite army. Finally, we'll let the AI try these battles and see how badly they get mauled(LOL). Enjoy!
Please comment, like and subscribe if you're interested in more of my ultra-late-game campaign, that may end up ending in utter despair, but that's the challenge of it. Any challenge where success is assured is no challenge at all.
My campaign is an extremely late-game campaign where I am resolved to give no peace to these scum Kingdoms attacking me - seven of the eight have been at war for years, with only Sturgia at a neutral stance. My family of warriors is now large though and with what remaining strength and valor we can must, we stand against the map of Calradia.
Join me on this adventure if you like huge battles, the use of advanced tactical maneuvers and intense Bannerlord gameplay, and subscribe to my channel if you want to follow along. This campaign is very lightly modded:
I use five to eight mods:
Reinforcement System Mod(highlighted in this video):
www.nexusmods....
Time Pass Mod: Realistic Lighting for battles and town scenes(the time CHANGES):
www.nexusmods....
RTS Mod(for better unit flag colors/overhead view and using other characters in battle):
www.nexusmods....
Immersive Battlefields:
A great mod that adds battle cries, roaring troops and more:
www.nexusmods....
Lord Retinue Uptier(Makes the enemy forces stronger, much less peasants and lower ranked troops)
www.nexusmods....
Improved AI Troops(Also makes enemy lords and their armies tougher by giving them a higher daily xp rate. This means you'll routinely face armies with HUGE numbers of the highest tier units, sometimes four or five times the normal amount in vanilla Bannerlord): www.nexusmods....
Death for all: This mod allows you to set the rate at which nobles die more often. I want both a harder challenging late-game but also a more realistic game. If you're cut down with a massive aserai two-handed axe, you shouldn't just be injured 99.9% of the time. It's a very customizable mod so you can just a little more death or set the death rate so high you get several deaths every battle. The number I often like is '10', some deaths but not a massacre of nobles...
www.nexusmods....
I also use the Dismemberment Plus Mod: It's highly customizable and works seamlessly with the new beta(and versions back to 1.28). I thoroughly recommend it if you enjoy carnage!:
steamcommunity...
I've also used Realistic Battle Mod in the past and highly recommend it for Ai and battle realism BUT I find the pace too slow for my taste and the AI is actually rather predictable after a half dozen battles. Still I wanted to put a plug in for it here, it's a GREAT mod and highly configurable. www.nexusmods....
Much of the music and inspiration for this and other videos in the channel are inspired by Epic History TV - probably THE best channel on youtube(and the internet for that matter) covering the Napoleonic wars. With amazing work Epic History TV takes you through the dramatic and incredibly story of Napoleon covering all of his most famous battles. I HIGHLY recommend it.

that last little kill there..... an axe to the back! Stellar!
Danke!
Every video you made i instant watch them. Another Great Gameplay🙌🏻🤩
btw when you use RBM back then. did you also ( Turn On ) the troop overhaul?
No, I didn't use the troop overhaul. Happy my content pleases you brother, enjoy.
Thanks for sharing. Keep up the good work.
The ideas you bring in with your videos can maybe help to save my little kingdom, because I am getting kicked my ass at the moment.
I hope so! Be sure to check out the pre-battle tips and tricks too, the playlist is PACKED with good info for a campaign.

I’ve started blurring the lines between heavy infantry and skirmisher. They only need one slot for a 2H weapon then fill the other 3 slots with jabs. Combine that with a speed flag Captain and you have a lethal combination.
I still prefer about half of my skirmishers to have shields, mixed with the 2-handers, that way if they are under a barrage they have the option to shield-wall and protect a good chunk of the 2-handers, but you're right, 2-handers with javelins are just savage on the battlefield, just like Zuvan.
@@HeadlessHorsemanProductionsI used to have my heavy troops with two weapons and two jav bags. Switching them to three made them so much more deadly.
@@joelhall3820 Yep, ditto. Even once in a while had units with a 2-hand and shield with javelins but unfortunately it makes the troops use the javelin like a polearm instead of shield+jav. 3 stacks is better.
I appreciate all your videos, even those for new players, your advice is really useful for my campaign. Even with very good perks it's difficult for me.
The village of Mareiven or Vërecsand are great villages for big battles. Don't forget to use winter !
I've been to both now and made some good battles - look for them soon, but thanks for the recommendations!
The advantage to camels is that its a higher platform to shot ( javelins and bow ) from - and - also it is much harder to be hit with swords or small spears in your torso ( you will be hit in the legs mostly and never in your head ). The problem with camels is that they do not have good armor and die easy. I use it in sieges to snipe from behind a rock or to rain down javelins in the big blobs of enemies in normal combat. If you are close to them, you can by-pass their eye level shields , meaning you are on top of them and all your shots hit 100%. Also if they try to hit you they have to be so close to you that only one enemy soldier can hit. If you have the biggest spear, you can take advantage of the height and length of your spear to be invincible and they will not be able to touch you much ( you hit them they will not ). Also, most of your hits will hit there head vs. there shoulders in a normal pass-hit-run.
In Warband i used the Steppe ponies that wore almost the same height with the enemy ( with me as rider ) and i was easier to be hit, even in the head. But when i switch to big heavy and tall horses i was invincible as they hit my shins or knees ( with the better damage modifier for me ) and they had to have longer weapons.
Damn, hadn't thought of this - great notes here brother. Now they NEED armor, and it would be badass to see armored camels.
@@HeadlessHorsemanProductions agreed. I think Boklahoma made the same comment on one of his Aserai playthrough video/guides.
Omfg I haven't thought about this before.. mind blown. Thanks man!
You got it mate, you've helped me, honored to return the favor. I'm EXCITED for this village series, there are like a dozen plus villages that I think will be as GOOD as a strong castle to defend. Hard to believe as that may be...
@@HeadlessHorsemanProductionsI was wondering, about half way through... I wonder if they are turning back to attack because of pathinng issues?
Not sure of course but makes sense that they turn to attack if they can't flee or rather find the pathing to flee.
Something to watch for?
@@arrgylerawrgyle3784 Probably reforming for reinforcements. Archers often flee in the first wave after their 350-400 vanguard implodes, the archers are like, "oh shit, we need some more melee boys here, let's retreat".
Loving this new series. Awesome.
Plenty more to come bud.
You deserve way more views and subs, shame tw doesn't support the game as much as you do
Hope they have a resurgence, for all of our sakes. (And thank you!)
i knew when i saw the video that you were gonna bring up kargrev after seeing it on the channel a few days ago when you held that bridge and found that hunting nook at the top of the hill
never thought about you sounding like sean strickland i can sorta see it haha
Yep, instant classic for defense. I've been STUNNED how many villages have locations for defense. I'm actually at about '12' in my scouting across Calradia. Now to processing and a weekly release! :)
Poor old camel !
We knew you were Strickland the whole time mate.
Do you think you'd ever do like a "load out" video where you go over your perks, weapons, armor, horse, etc. For those newer players like myself? Or maybe theres an already existing video that i missed?
I *always* recommend this ENTIRE playlist because it is absolutely packed with good and somewhat little known info - and episode 2 has a LOT of the info you would probably like.

Enjoy!
@@HeadlessHorsemanProductions awesome thanks a lot.
Is this at all possible on ps4 when I’ve fought outnumbered I just don’t have enough troops to do anything tactical just get overwhelmed I was in the desert which didn’t help too 😢
Those for sure a limit to what kind of magic you can pull off the tactics but with enough practice experience and tactical tools in your tool bag you can definitely overcome huge odds
