Ok, I smiled at the "Warning! This Device Contains Atom!" . Reminds me of a story my Uncle used to tell us about his time in the US Army, on a US base in Germany, just before the Vietnam war. He was one of the guys in the radio room. He says they placed two posts on the wall and a sign in between that said "Warning! 10,000,000 ohms!" . Which is about what they figured the ohms were between the two posts. The number of inspectors who gave that spot a wide berth was amusing. :D
Hah! This reminds me of a time many years ago when we were doing research into the very small electric fields around living microorganisms. Needless to say, very sensitive instruments in a small closet-like room. We put a sign on the door reading "Caution Nanovolts!" which had the same effect as your sign.
So not only is that a beautiful upgrade.....from which Ive learned new techiques....but OMG what a beautiful toolbox. I absolutely want a new toolbox for which I shall invent a suitable use
The inability to explain at the end,I find " I've put my hand and my mark on this" covers what you mean about it. 7.34, thank you very much, I needed a good laugh! As always, it turned out fantastic watching you think and work is always a joy.
I got this exact toolbox for myself before Christmas and I 3d printed some inserts for it. I had not even considered making a wooden insert for it. Glad I already got mine, I bet these will be sold out now!
Love this❤ I bought the exact same color and size of Toyo tool box as a lockable case for an air gun. I lined mine with some 1/8” foam sheet to keep things from rattling around.
I have the same tool box (only in a different colour green - I have to admit I like the a OD green better now that I see it) that my wife gave me for Christmas 2023. OK I bought it and handed it to her to wrap and give back to me for that Christmas. I keep planning on 3D printing some sort of internal organization drawers. It won’t be as nice as walnut but I feel inspired now to get on with it.
That vintage ball peen hammer with the turned handle is a thing of beauty! Great project, it has inspired me to make a quilted liner (I’m not a woodworker) for my Stanley lunch box, which is used for small knitting projects.
I also got that same toolbox (in Red) for Christmas, such a lovely thing. I've spent the last month thinking about lining mine as well, but with some sort of 3d printed modular organisers. Watching you modify yours has given me the kick in the ass to stop procrastinating and JFDI (just F'n do it). Im buzzing that this beautiful tool box made our brains itch in the same way. Keep doing what your doing
I had the exact same instinct when I got my Toyo toolbox! It just feels too nice to put tools into... My plan is to 3d print some different sized boxes to act as the liner and dividers
Saw the Trusco ST-350-B 2-Level Toolbox in the MOMA gift shop in Manhattan a few years ago and had to have it. Ended up buying two more to give as graduation gifts to my nieces (full of nice tools of course.)
Adam has mentioned before that he doesn't fancy himself much of a woodworker. But this video proves that he is definately a very good woodworker indeed. Great job. Nice attention to detail for a simple project.
Cool - I was thinking to purchase that box for a special Bonsai tool box. Giving me ideas on how to furnish it... By far this is the best production metal tool box on the market. I have one the bigger more lunch box style boxes now.
Ah, oh nooo 😂 spoiler for the infinity gauntlet build. It had the Infinty stone settings 😆. Loved this build, Loved the passion from Adam on the staining 😎
Interviewer: "What finish did you apply to your project? Perhaps an artisanal stain crafted from organic, cold pressed linseed oil and the finest hand ground pigments?" Adam: "Brown" 😎 😂
its fascinating to see how other people think. The corners I would have tried to do in a totally different way. its really cool how people tackle different problems in different ways.
At first I was thinking Spanish cedar to convert it into a humidor. Then I noticed Toyo makes leather liner kits for their boxes. I get the DYI angle but if you did it in leather I believe you would get a bit more internal volume.
Unique design for the insert. Always inspires ideas for the next project I might take on. Adam is somewhat like Norm Abrams; now I’m going over to my (insert tool name), another tool you don’t have in your shop!
Pro tip: Trusco toolboxes are made by Toyo (or they have the same parent company. Hard to tell, I don't read Japanese)! Some different styles and color options if you check out both. The stackable ones work together.
If not mistaken they are indeed made by Toyo. But...be aware that there are also Chinees copies around. Mind you, they are nice (I have one) and half the price. But not as nice as the Toyo ones
I've got several Toyos, including a Y-350, and they're excellent. I keep my Milwaukee 8v electric screwdriver in the 350, got a bigger box for my Hakko FR301, another for a label printer, etc. I feel like quality metal boxes mostly fell off the grid a long time ago. It's nice we can still find these niche products. The walnut liner looks amazing.
I think you missed the best upgrade - painting the box safety orange. Orange metal plus dark brown walnut... chef's kiss. Brown is just dark orange after all.
You were not far off Adam with the history of stamping metal, around the 1880s is when metal stamping was advanced enough to make somewhat complex shapes like boxes, and bicycle parts too.
I love this idea and look. Great build, even though there were so many moments where I though, not the way I'd have done that... like cyanoacrylate glue on wood?
I think a lighter stain would have been better, but as they say - Beauty is in the eye of the beholder......as you were constructing the lining in its natrual color - I was like - Man that is going to be sharp!!.......at the end i I was like - "Well at least it wont show dirt". :) Love your work ADAM
I love Walnut, two words i don't like hearing together in the same sentence are Walnut and Stain, my jaw dropped when i saw it being smothered with dark stain, might as well have used cheap pine ( my opinion, other opinions vary, not a criticism ) a nice clear coat would have shown it in its true beauty.
Random thought Adam, your giant disc sander could be modified to have a momentary switch on a foot pedal since you don't seem to just run it normally and just turn it on and off.
Is there no router table in the cave? I appreciate the creative problem solving for making the curved corner pieces. It seems like there's a bunch of steps in this build that would have been faster / easier / better results done with the router.
To be honest, i've spent some time away from Adam, then I noticed that he's upgrading a toolbox, and that was good enough for me. Always enjoy watching Adam at work. And I do like the wood stain, it's a nice color.
My only problem is that I always need a little more space in my tool boxes and this liner, though pretty, makes the box smaller? I always liked the green felt liner in machinist's chests- maybe because it looks good and takes up very little space.

I’m sitting here wondering what the heck you’re doing with the pink tape annnnnd this is why you are you and I watch.
Nice trick Adam with the hose clamp and the forstner bit. Thanks for that

We all heard that at around 7:35 right?😂
More room out than in.
💨
adam savage - guy who buys tools to make better toolboxes for the tools he just bought
It’s the circle of life my friend.
There are a lot of those guys (us).
When the end comes. I want him to lead the team.
That fart at 7:34 though 😂
I was like, did Adam just fart on mic? Gotta check that timestamp and see what others say! LOL
😂
🤣🤣🤣🤣
The editor did him dirty 😂
peak moment
Just the banging and noise is entertaining enough. Glad to see I’m not the only guy who labels and signs my projects.
So not only is that a beautiful upgrade.....from which Ive learned new techiques....but OMG what a beautiful toolbox. I absolutely want a new toolbox for which I shall invent a suitable use
Just when I felt a sense of achievement and satisfaction after acquiring my own Toyo box, Adam goes and customizes his with a walnut liner.
Adams been cool af for like 25 years in a row

I always enjoy watching the problem solving process that each new project brings. Great job!
I got one of these toolboxes in 2022 and 3d printed inserts but this looks awesome! YOINK!
I got this exact toolbox for myself before Christmas and I 3d printed some inserts for it. I had not even considered making a wooden insert for it. Glad I already got mine, I bet these will be sold out now!
Have you found a full length tray insert? Ideally split down the center
Love this❤ I bought the exact same color and size of Toyo tool box as a lockable case for an air gun. I lined mine with some 1/8” foam sheet to keep things from rattling around.

I love those Toyo tool boxes! I have several and always gift them each christmas haha
That was a brilliant solution to the inside corners
I just got a canteliever toolbox from toyo, i lined mine with waxed denim! cool to see someone line theirs with something more solid
That vintage ball peen hammer with the turned handle is a thing of beauty! Great project, it has inspired me to make a quilted liner (I’m not a woodworker) for my Stanley lunch box, which is used for small knitting projects.
I love how he notices every detail of anything he looks at...
What a gorgeous timber walnut is.
14:20 tapping those pencils like they're still in production :P
That pole sander is so cool! Definitely want to add one of those to my tool collection…
I also got that same toolbox (in Red) for Christmas, such a lovely thing. I've spent the last month thinking about lining mine as well, but with some sort of 3d printed modular organisers. Yeah, Adam is 90% to having a Toyo humidor.
@7:35 Let it RIP brother!! 😂
Right!? 😂 I had to rewind it..
I use the fold out one for my D&D games, bottom is tiles and decor and the top stores miniatures and dice, love it!
Perfect display case for a lightsaber. 😊 I have the exact same tool box that I was planning on “transforming” too.
Saw the Trusco ST-350-B 2-Level Toolbox in the MOMA gift shop in Manhattan a few years ago and had to have it. Ended up buying two more to give as graduation gifts to my nieces (full of nice tools of course.)
Inspiring. I do like the tape part. Very nice.
At first, I thought, "Why?" But I answered my own question. WHY NOT! Looks really cool.
Great video, love the classic steel toolbox, love the build
so much fun watching the methods of the man :)
Ahhhh I love a road trip like that
Adam has mentioned before that he doesn't fancy himself much of a woodworker. But this video proves that he is definately a very good woodworker indeed. Great job. Nice attention to detail for a simple project.
Thank you for the lovely comment! We'll pass it on to Adam.

Ah, oh nooo 😂 spoiler for the infinity gauntlet build. It had the Infinty stone settings 😆. Loved this build, Loved the passion from Adam on the staining 😎
Needs Silo weathering and filling with old Japanese hand tools.
I'm imagining chisels.
Interviewer: "What finish did you apply to your project? Perhaps an artisanal stain crafted from organic, cold pressed linseed oil and the finest hand ground pigments?"
Adam: "Brown" 😎 😂
its fascinating to see how other people think. The corners I would have tried to do in a totally different way. its really cool how people tackle different problems in different ways.
Right?!
Walnut is such a pretty wood.
These are my favorite toolboxes! I like to line them with felt
i also got one of these for christmas this year. and i'm actually lining mine with some veg tan leather.
Awww, Maggie. :D
At first I was thinking Spanish cedar to convert it into a humidor. Then I noticed Toyo makes leather liner kits for their boxes. I get the DYI angle but if you did it in leather I believe you would get a bit more internal volume.
That's THE toolbox form I have been looking for. Short of a tray insert. I need a minimalist box for just the tools needed to assemble AR type rifles.
Unique design for the insert. Always inspires ideas for the next project I might take on. Adam is somewhat like Norm Abrams; now I’m going over to my (insert tool name), another tool you don’t have in your shop!
I need a toyo ❤
Forget putting a tool in it! Put a movie prop (gun/saber...) in it! Nice finish on the wood.
I lined the top of mine with Velcro tape so I can stick my tools to the top and still have room on the bottom for other things
Clever corners!

100% great use of hose clamp
Very impressive adam

I have the Toyo ST-350MG in military green. It's one of my favorite things.
Thanks!
Thank you for the Super Thanks!
Watching Adam work is like ASMR for the eyes.
Ha! Love that. Thank you.
@tested You're welcome 🧰
Nice work looks great
very nice upgrade Belloq😆
“This is a toolbox. It is also an incredible lesson in what good design can yield.” - 2:45
You were not far off Adam with the history of stamping metal, around the 1880s is when metal stamping was advanced enough to make somewhat complex shapes like boxes, and bicycle parts too.
The way you made those corners is ingenious! Love it!
I love this idea and look. Great build, even though there were so many moments where I though, not the way I'd have done that... like cyanoacrylate glue on wood?

Trusco also makes great Japanese boxes
7.34 was the after sound of some tape ripping of :)
I love me a Toyo..❤
Honestly if you changed this channel to "Adam Makes Boxes" i would be satisfied 🤣
Ha!
21:38 I feel like we missed out on some real riveting content
I love Walnut, two words i don't like hearing together in the same sentence are Walnut and Stain, my jaw dropped when i saw it being smothered with dark stain, might as well have used cheap pine ( my opinion, other opinions vary, not a criticism ) a nice clear coat would have shown it in its true beauty.
boy I sure like Walnut and Steel! just sayin'
Toyo toolboxes are the HEAT! I have a bunch of the smaller ones(T-152) to store tiny wrenches and other easily lost tools.
We call it liquid sunshine 😊
Random thought Adam, your giant disc sander could be modified to have a momentary switch on a foot pedal since you don't seem to just run it normally and just turn it on and off.
Okay let's face it I just came here to comment on Adam passing gas at 7:35 😅
it could be a very nice watch box
You make a beautiful fitting inlay out of gorgeous walnut and than you stain it??? I will never understand and my heart is bleeding slightly haha!
Is there no router table in the cave? I appreciate the creative problem solving for making the curved corner pieces. It seems like there's a bunch of steps in this build that would have been faster / easier / better results done with the router.

same
Looks more like a lunchbox 😊
Think it would be cool to add Gridfinity to your toolbox and then make dividers for the tools that would slot into there. mixing all hobbies!
Walnut seems to be the go to wood these days.
Adam makes things so fast that he kind of gives me anxiety. Dude, slow down. 😅
So true My Cat Photon knows my routine I know hers
That may be the most course paint brush ever
Very nice sir
good video
In the 70s the height of fashion 👧🏻was a fur lined PVC rain coat 🧥
My only problem is that I always need a little more space in my tool boxes and this liner, though pretty, makes the box smaller? I always liked the green felt liner in machinist's chests- maybe because it looks good and takes up very little space.
...just put two hinges and a handle on the wooden parts and you have an elegant wooden toolbox 😏
Adam Savage upgrades his toolbox. :0)
the stain is too dark for my taste, and that walnut was so pretty as it was, but hey it's YOUR box : )
Adam you should try building an acoustic guitar. It has been a dream of mine and I think you could do it.
🤣 Adam got in a groove and went into Prop Mode 🤣
Wow, "25 seconds ago".
I think you need to get all the colors.....
Why line it? Less space inside now.. why not just make a wood toolbox..
