- A few weeks ago Lucy Brown invited you to ‘Ask Me Anything’. And over 5,000 of you did. Some of your questions were frankly a bit dull but the majority were, as they say, QI. So in the spirit (specifically gin) of transparency, here are my answers as promised. Pour yourself a glass.

Petition for someone to commission a series called "Tools of the World" with James May as host.
Would love that
Episode 1: James May rants for an hour about Clarkson.
I never knew I needed this until I read it. Excellent idea.
Insert joke about James calling himself a tool
It's not a tool review channel. It's a burn tools channel.
This pace of editing much better suits James's persona.
I've stopped watching the videos where he tries food because of the editing. The original style was so lovely.
Come on. The edits were hilarious as a sort of verfremdungseffekt. Very effective too. I mean, here you are, weeks later, still talking about it
@@snilefisk It was over-produced and out of place. That editing style is better suited for a younger audience.
@@snilefisk why on earth would you use that word
Noted.
Thank you for answering my question James you legend
legendary moment
Now waiting for DJB0 (pronounced: D-J-Bow) to comment
I’d have asked the same question. And James’ answer is exactly why I love him. Of all the things he’s done, he chose one that meant something to him and probably only him. I remember him driving in the desert of Attacama, he looked like he was absolutely mesmerised and truly enjoyed the drive. Some day I’ll do that too.
I'll never stop finding it funny and kind of cool how, despite being projected as the one out of the trio who is most like an "old lady" in Top Gear and Grand Tour, he has actually always been the most tech savy, social media conscious, and future minded out of all of them by far. He's chill (the other two have a lot more "hyper" moments lol. Not that that's a bad thing) and meticulous (both good qualities as far as I'm concerned), yes, and a bit nerdy, true, but in a way, he's also the most "hip" out of all of them. 😛I just find that kind of funny and interesting.
Loved it when he "menaced" Clarkson with a machete. You could tell he was seriously considering making television history!😁
My favorite thing that James ever did was during the Top Gear episode where the challenge was to retrieve, transport and deliver an injured person as quickly as possible to the hospital -- when the starting alarm sounded James arose from his chair in a very marionette fashion like it was an International Rescue episode!
😂😂😂 i watched that recently, love the 'ecnalubma'
Watching the top gear clips live stream last night as well? 😄 I just saw that last night and laughed so hard too
The polar episode, training with the special forces guy. Freezing cold stood around the "survive falling through the ice" pool and Jeremy gets pushed in. The camera pans to Hammond who looks like a rabbit caught in the headlights said something to James who replied,
"I, I, I I'm Staggered" and just looked on in absolute Shock. 😂😂😂😅 I laughed, a lot....
My favorite James moment was from Our Man in Japan where he attempted to eat genuine Japanese Wasabi. 😂😂
@@MrJeff622 When he stood poised to strike with the shovel and told Jeremy "Seat the pole". @ 1:00 ua-cam.com/video/MSRQ4a-mK4Q/v-deo.html
And Hammond "I wouldn't" @ 1:21 ua-cam.com/video/M-GQ2K707cc/v-deo.html @ 1:21
I liked and commented for the sole reason James told Lucy the calls to action are needy. God Bless, James May.
If it wasn't for James she would be yet another one of the millions of uncultured vloggers no one has ever heard of who think they're Peter Jackson because they can point a camera at a breakfast and describe the taste in a way that makes it sound they're a complete stranger to the concept of eating.
Bim, guess what? Shijo-Ohashi is a bridge representative of Kyoto that crosses the Kamo River over Shijo Street.
It is also called Gion Bashi.
I make it a point to go to that bridge whenever I visit Kyoto! I also had to visit Nanzen-ji because of Bim and Robohon.
I also giggle like a kid whenever I see a Robohon.
😂
I loved that scene. In fact I loved the whole "Our Man in Japan" series.
The Oz Clarke throwback was epic. Would love to see more of their combined antiques.
do you mean antics? or are they both collectors of fine antiquities?
They are both antiques, in a sense. Cherished but a bit worn.
@@thesmallerhalf1968 this is quite true indeed
Yes. Oz and James were a fantastic duo. Great chemistry, different to the chemistry he had with Clarkson and Hammond.
10:36 "speed ... it achieves - nothing!" James's look to camera cracks me up every time - Jeremy, are you watching?
“Power and Speed solves many things!”
Commenting because Lucy asked for a call to action and James refused, This comment and like are for you Lucy.
Call to action is needy… only Hammond does that 😜
_standing up groaning_ ekhem... simp!
@@droopy_eyes My most sincerest apologies about the tic tac sized nub you call your manhood.
@@theblackomen Oh the sweet sweet irony.
James pontificating on the Japanese Industrial Standard screwdriver is a moment that plays on a continuous loop in my head.
One of my favourite things that James has produced was an old series with him fixing old mechanical items such as an old lawn mower or, I believe, scooter engine. There isn't much left of it on the internet but from time to time I return late in the evening to those episodes and relax while listening to him reminiscing and fixing stuff.
I believe that was called The Reassembler
Most James May science/mechanical shows he's done have been reuploaded to youtube now. Man Lab and Reassembler come to mind.
All 7 episodes of the two seasons of James May: The Reassembler are on UA-cam!
Thank you for being a wonderful person and light for us all James
Despite James doing everything to prevent it, I have liked, commented, and subscribed.
Exactly according to keikaku
I could listen to James May all day. I love the other 2 as well, but James has always been my favourite out of the 3. I wish I knew him on a personal level as I’d enjoy his company very much.
Genuine role model of a human being, love ya James
My wife and I are naming our first born James. Strong and simple like May.
I named my first born May, maybe they will find each other (:
Unquestionably shot in Lucy’s new studio. Looks professional AF ✌🏻
Her 'Social Media Dungeon'. Lol!!!!
Lucy Brown, James May & Drive Tribe all releasing a new video at the same time ❤🎉
LOVED Toy Stories ❤ A small tear at the mention of this great programme. What a triumph to have had a second go at the miniature railway race.
Jethro Tull! Yes! Amazing group. Thanks you, James. You are a kind and gentle man. The world is a better place, because of you.
James finding the true source of the nile is my favourite James May moment
James disdain for "call to actions" is what makes him a top bloke in my book. Cheers James, my Gin shelf is resplendent with all your produce (Parsnip is still my favourite).
I'm from Texas. My favorite episode was your visit to the US, where you really pushed your luck traveling through the south. The dead cow scene was priceless.
I just watched that one last night! So good!
one of my favourites! I can't believe Jeremy had a cow on his roof!!!!!!!
@Lip.Smacker They never did peel it.
Unfortunately everything on this show was staged. It was a show, not a documentary. Even this video is just a commercial for his gin.
@@Hawaiishelldiver What planet are you from? This was an american special episode. Who brought up anything about a documentary? It was an old Top Gear episode. There wasn't anything staged about it at all. Where do you get your information?
James, please can we get a thorough playthrough of Grand Theft Auto 5
😂
And 6 when it comes out
The number of times he will say, "crikey, it's the rozers."
James Gaming would be the greatest channel ever made
That would be so funny
Honestly, I'd watch a 100 episode series of James visiting various cool factories and observing how they make things, having a go himself, and then rating / admiring their tool drawer setups.
Those were my favourite moments from his "Our man in _____" series.
I could listen to James talk about anything
How can you not love James may
My favorite moments in TV history are A: The Polar Special and B: The Vietnam Special. Why? Because they both kind of step outside of what's "known" and just tickle that sort of nerve of adventure a bit more than anything else could ever. The Polar Special does it in a way that you can tell it's dangerous and The Vietnam Special does a car show with bikes, or essentially mopeds :D I will forever miss you guys, and thank you for teaching me confidence in speaking English, back in 2005, when I first discovered Top Gear!
Thanks for this James! Would love more.
I just like listening to you talk James, thank you. You calm the spirit with a combined echo of Morgan Freeman and Basil Faulty.
The ultimate moment, I agree, is so hard to choose.
James May, I thought I would mention that I had the absolute pleasure to grow up Walvis Bay, Namibia . As a teenager I rode a 175cc Yamaha DT 1986 scrambler and those dunes you are referring to was our playgrounds. There are many hidden treasures nobody knows about in the Namib desert. Kind regards from a salty and sandy local.
Mr May, good to hear from you.
I took a prog rock study course at uni and both King Crimson and Jethro Tull were part of the class 😊 excellent choices!
Rush is the king of Prog
Love the "No. It's needy." Man is a class act in doing his own thing his way.
He is truly an entertaining man
Great one James and crew! Hope this winter is going well for you all
James May mentioning both King Crimson and The Sx Pistols makes me so very happy.
You know someone will think he’s a JoJo fan because of this.
James being a King Crimson fan is just perfect
I think one of my favorites of them all is the bolivia special. Watcing james go through it all with just a little suzuki was amazing. These guys really opened my eyes to how beautiful the world is. Because of those 3, Mongolia & Namibia are on my bucket list of places to visit. 2 places i never would've thought of
Title should have been "..smells like donkey farts".. 😂😂
"...parsnip soup, ... rich and nutty..." yeah I see why he likes this souperb dish
Regarding not being conservative and the present is better than the past, you made a good point in The Grand Tour when you brought a Civic Type R on a tour in France where Hammond and Clarkson were taking old classics.... good thing you did not get the speeding ticket!
National treasure this block. Sir May
I think my favorite part of these may (pun intended) be the call to action bit at the end they always do.
"smell like donkey farts" 🤣
James is obviously a connoisseur.
The Beach Buggy episode was one of the best.
Huge Yes fan; never heard a better description of their catalogue 😂
James May is one of the coolest people on this planet. Mark my words
Jethro Tull are awesome, nice one James
Especially their early work, as you do.
Definetly !!! James rocks !!
A true legend ❤
Low key though, everything I can think of/seen that James has been in on TV has been social media videos before their time (this is not a bad thing imo). The Reassembler? Absolutely a UA-cam series for TV, same with Man Lab, and Cars of the People. Also, we need to see the bench now!
I agree what you said about YES.
Too many people suing, allegedly each other in that group.
Quite heartwarming all the nice Jethro Tull comments here.
When James was on about the corned beef experiment, I started to wonder if he ever got revenge for the tin of spam Jeremy blew up in the Artic, a full "That's for my spam you git!" moment.
i love these videos. thank you james
10:36 is just perfection 🤣 Would love to see more of this type of video
If it's a tin it's neither "sell by" nor "use by", it'll be a "best before" date.
The best thing you did in both Top Gear or Grand Tour, is being James May
That corned beef question hit me hard... I had an unopened Kalle's fish egg smear or whatever it would be in English, that had expired in 2005. I kept it safe, so I could consume it when I hit 60. It was lost in 2019. RIP Kallen Mätitahna!
Gotta love his aura of i don't know anything about social media while playing the game perfectly.( kudos lucy)
This video was perfect for my morning tea!
Jethro Tull is great. Very nice video.
Hearing James May praise Jethro Tull is both very gratifying and incredibly unsurprising
Only James May could get into a choir boy fist fight. Brillant
I subscribe to the thought that if it smells and looks okay, it probably is alright to take a taste, and if it tastes normal, it's fine to eat.
We are pretty well equipped to know what's rotten and what's not.
You 3 should do a few podcasts episodes where you say u told stories and funny moments over the decades, and just generally chit chat
Title of the podcast: "conversation street" ; -)
@ “Well, it’s time for the news”
i copy this i would listen in 😁
SITTING ON A PARK BENCH
SNOTS RUNNING DOWN HIS NOSE
FEELING LIKE A DEAD DUCK
Even if my question was not selected its always pleasure to watch James 😃unfortunetly for him i liked and subscribe alreday 😉
Crazy, I was just listening to Jethro Tull in the car not too long ago, glad to hear James is a fan!
Agreed on Jethro Tull and King Crimson - they are amazing. You have yet to say something we don't like.... ,challenge 🙂
He has no idea just how likeable he is does he.
Having seen you for years James. Looking good.
My question didn't get answered but I still thought that was a great video. Thanks, James.
Your shirt says it all😂 more travel James and take me with you!
James may should have more views on this videos. He’s quite entertaining
My new favirate james qoute, we should all live in a tool box 🤔🤣🤣👍
Best moment for James on either Top Gear or Grand Tour has to be his engine and battery recharge for "Geoff"
James May specifically saying that he has a screwdriver from South Africa, is probably the most James May thing that James May has ever said
I have the ashcome room at the royal oak in June. Excited to try that soup
Lucy Brown, we need a video of James going through his tool box describing and showcasing "tools of the world" whilst enjoying some London Drizzle.
You really need Dutch 'bitterballen' as a bar snack. Goes great with gin.
Amen
It’s safe to love both cats & dogs as I have one of each both get along and both make me laugh with their own personalities 😂
Love the reference to "W1A". Director of Better. Classic.
Man Lab and James May's Toy Stories were some of the best TV ever!
I appreciate James mentioning that liking to do things the right way does not mean you're living in the past, and that the creations of the present can be great things.
Absolute Awesome Video.
Good on ya Lucy Brown. Since I was a kid, I knew the dynamic between you and Charlie was going to lead to you being a couple. 😂🤣😋
ahhhh your Omega Seamaster planet ocean! I haven’t seen you wear that one in a while!
James may the international tool man , lets get a james may garage tour!!
Love James's material.
James May - 'interviewed by the people, for the people!'
Could we have a mini series pls? 😊
I'm sad i missed the opportunity to ask a question though...but it was an interesting watch. Thank you.🤗
Btw I think we need to see a photograph of the surely ,now infamous 'Yellow Bench'.
Please!☺
Every think was so funny when you was working with Oz clark was just that like it came across has or more. 😂
I was unaware of the one pink brick, however, it now haunts me!
Maturing is when you realize james is best of the trio
Call to actions do work though, that's why they're so important in this context
Jeeems Mayyy 🎶
James can we get another series of "The reassembler" maybe whilst drinking copious amounts of James Gin
